On paper, Roma away should be one of Inter's trickiest fixtures,
but in recent seasons the Nerazzurri have made light work of the giallorossi here at the Olimpico.
The champions have won on each of their last three visits,
and it's now more than eight years since Roma last defeated Inter in the capital.
Sooner or later that record has to end.
Could it be tonight as Ivan Juric takes on Inter for the first time as Roma boss?
Juric's record against Simoni and Zaghi, underwhelming to say the least,
but Roma hoping for a big scout tonight under the lights in the Eternal City.
Roma-Inter is just moments away.
Ivan Juric makes two changes to the eleven that drew at Monza.
El Sherawi misses out tonight through injury, so Zalewski deputises on the left side.
The other switch is like-for-like.
Matthias Solle makes way for his compatriot, Roma's one superstar, Paolo Di Bala.
Artem Dovbik has been particularly prolific since Ivan Juric came to the helm.
A pair of alterations for Inter as well from their victory over Torino.
Pavard is restored at the expense of Bissec,
and the Nerazzurri are also boosted by the return to full fitness of Nicolo Barrella.
So despite his goals for Italy, Davide Fratesi is on the bench this evening.
The potent front duo for the reigning champions.
A big test for Roma, but similarly a match where Inter feel they need to get maximum points
to respond to their title rivals.
Milan, Juventus and Napoli already victorious in Matchday 8, can Inter match them.
Emanuele Pascali, why is it that Roma have struggled so much in recent seasons against Inter?
Good evening, Patrick.
You know there are some stadiums that are special for players, no?
I think Inter, every time they come here in Roma,
there is something that always produces magic moments for them.
We're going to see if Juric will be the one that will stop this.
Roma will see, as usual, building from the back with Dika and Mancini,
and Angelino is in a more advanced role just now.
It's interesting, you mentioned Ivan Juric, the relatively new Roma coach,
because he's lost more matches against Simoni and Zaghi than anyone else.
But here's Pellegrini in a shooting position,
and that shows what a difficult start to the season it's been for him.
Low on confidence, the Roma skipper.
Turam, Varela with the cross, Di Marco round the back,
and that for him was miscued.
Mancini's given it straight back to Varela.
Time and space for Pavard now, it's behind Lautaro Martinez.
Di Marco had to adjust, he's found.
Lautaro Martinez, half a chance for him.
Pavard, time and space for Mkhitaryan on his old patch, here he is again.
Mkhitaryan, Lautaro Martinez, Turam!
Good save, Zvila.
That's what we were talking about, Patrick.
Brilliant football, one pass forward, one backward,
the ball, and look here, for Mkhitaryan, then Lautaro,
then Grele off for Turam.
Fantastic shot, but Zvila is alert.
Here's Dybala, away by a chair beat.
Dybala wins the header, now Dovbik for Pellegrini.
Still got it, the skipper, Varela wants handball.
Dybala, Pellegrini's cross, spilt by Sommer.
We've seen that before from the Inter keeper, he's got away with this one.
But that is the first time we've seen Dybala involved in the match so far,
on his favourite right side.
Physical problem for him.
Well, he's arguably Inter's one irreplaceable player,
potentially, along with Lautaro Martinez.
Hakan Calhanoglu is the man that makes the Nerazzurri tick.
Without Christian Aslani this evening, he hasn't travelled due to injury.
So Calhanoglu has clearly hurt his groin from the looks of things.
Fratesi is on.
Pavard's touch was loose, but Lautaro has still found Turam.
Two against two here.
Marcus Turam, opening up the space,
and there was Endicat to shut it down again.
Mkhitaryan in time!
How close was that?
Wow, wonderful shot by the Armenian, just outside the box.
Wonderful technique, and here Endicat showing how solid he is,
and how solid has been Roma defence with just five goals conceded.
Dybala with the ball in.
Endicat hits it straight over.
Bastoni, lovely skill.
Now he finds Di Marco.
The cross was well stopped by Mancini.
Now Inter have committed numbers forward.
Roma trying to counter, but Mancini has given it away.
And Acerbi might have to come off here.
Is that why De Vrij is warming up?
Yeah, probably.
Here Bastoni almost nutmegging Dybala,
and yes, probably you were right.
Acerbi has to come off.
Well, no, he has waved the white flag.
Acerbi being booed because of his past association with Lazio.
And here's another former Lazio player, Stefan De Vrij, coming off.
Angelinho, here's Paolo Dybala,
and still, just for a moment, it looked like he'd got away there.
Otaro might have to go himself here.
He waits for support to arrive.
Mkhitaryan, one is one option.
Turam is another, and Turam goes down.
Davide Massa waves the finger.
We've already seen a couple of these this weekend alone.
Reinders sent off against Udinese for a dog.
So the same fate befell Alessio Romagnoli of Lazio for catching Pierre Kalulu,
and that looked a little bit risky on Turam.
Mancini's cross for Dovbik.
It's wide.
Yeah, and we're gonna have a look again.
They're gonna have a look again.
Cristante might have just clipped the heels there of Marcus Turam.
It's whether he was already on his way down, the Roma defender.
Ndika and Turam both share the same mother tongue, French.
So Ndika was sure that he was in the clear.
Dovbik holding up De Vrij and bringing in Dybala.
This is Pellegrini.
Still, Lorenzo Pellegrini pushed away by Sommer.
That's better from Roma.
And again, a fantastic job by Dovbik because it wasn't an easy ball to keep it down.
Then Pellegrini from that distance.
Trouble.
Sommer, better from Roma now.
Coming very deep to try and impact the game, Dybala.
Angelinho, Zeki Celek with the header, and Sommer watched it wide.
Yeah, mismatch there between Celek and Di Marco.
Here is Dovbik.
The three added minutes have been played.
And so far, Ivan Juric is keeping Inter very quiet.
Lorenzo Pellegrini wants testing Jan Sommer.
The champions have lost a couple of key players to injury.
Mkhitaryan struck the frame of the goal.
But if Inter are to win this game, they're going to need to find the net in the second half.
Because their efforts thus far have come to naught.
At the break, Roma nil, Inter nil.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu started this game for Inter, but he had to limp off Inter.
The same was true of Francesco Acerbi.
So Inter have already made two substitutions and lost two slots.
They haven't found a way past Roma thus far.
Despite the best efforts of Marcus Thuram in particular,
Mkhitaryan struck the woodwork.
But Simone Inzaghi hoping that his team can come through in the second half
against a side coached by Ivan Juric, as they so often have in the past.
The second half begins then at the Stadio Olimpico.
Inter hoping to respond to earlier victories this season,
all by a solitary goal this weekend rather,
from Milan, Juventus and Napoli.
And Manuel Pascali, correct me if I'm wrong,
but it has that feel of maybe just one goal edge in this game.
Yeah, I agree with you.
I think one will be enough.
But we know football, anything can happen.
But surely Inter, apart from probably Mkhitaryan, chance didn't produce much.
Fratezi, Thuram, Mkhitaryan waits on the edge of the box.
Instead, it's back for Barrella to drive and he dragged it wide.
A great job by Thuram, stealing the ball just outside the box to Kone near Barrella.
Trying from distance, not the best connection, out wide.
Then now Kone is coming off.
Interesting decision here.
Kone withdrawn seven minutes into the second half.
Dybala looking for Zalewski and finding him.
Now Dobik's on the move.
Zalewski, Roma have got numbers here.
It was towards Dobik, still Zalewski.
And he's decided to settle for the corner when he could have played it to Dybala.
Pellegrini curls in the corner, Sommer with a convincing punch.
Zalewski losing out to Fratezi.
Two against one now because Di Marco's getting forward.
Fratezi, Lautaro Martinez.
Inter strike on the counter.
And it's the skipper who comes good with the goal.
Exactly where you need him to be if you're an Inter fan.
And Lautaro Martinez scores a big goal in what had been, up until now, a very tight game.
Departure, you cannot give him a sniff in the box.
Zalewski lost the ball here under the pressure of Fratezi,
who's a master of winning the second ball, the Challenge 50-50 challenge.
Then here, Di Marco's attracting Dybala, look at his desire to go back.
And here, massive, massive mistake by Celic.
And then Lautaro, smash it.
Pavard, Lautaro for Fratezi and it's through for Marcus Thuram.
Di Marco, good challenge from Celic.
Fantastic challenge by Celic, redeemed himself.
But what a ball from Fratezi, look here.
Wonderful ball and almost Di Marco finding the net here.
Celic, magnificent.
I wonder whether Pellegrini goes for goal directly here.
Pellegrini strikes the free kick.
That's Dybala, it's deflected.
And Inter getting the rub of the green.
By Pavard, I think.
Another Pellegrini set piece.
Dovbik didn't hit the target.
So, off come Darmian, Bastoni and Lautaro Martinez.
The latter, the scorer of the only goal.
Yeah, Darmian has just been booked.
So Dumfries will play in his natural position.
Then Correa is on and Baldanzi.
Baldanzi will add some more flair for Roma here.
Fratezi, Dumfries is after it.
Thuram has found him.
Inter with lots of pace in the side now.
Denzel Dumfries going all the way himself.
Dumfries, good save from Zvila.
Yeah, terrific goalkeeping by Zvila.
Celic, Pizilli for Baldanzi.
Here's Pizilli again.
Baldanzi once more.
And no one in red to pick up the pieces.
Barela, Thuram's peeled away.
Fratezi is quicker than Angelinho.
Marcus Thuram, still there for Thuram.
Zvila was brave.
Is it Istibala who comes off for his mini-me, essentially.
Soler is left-footed, he's talented, he's Argentinian.
Enzo Lefe, who was also a very expensive summer recruit.
Solé, Solé taking on Di Marco.
Still Matthias Solé.
It was tame in the end.
Fratezi restoring order.
Here comes Di Marco.
Mancini will have to come across.
Di Marco hanging up for Dumfries.
Dumfries, it's another save from Zvila.
How many is that?
Yeah, outstanding by Zvila.
Baldanzi, Solé.
Solé from a long way out.
That's easy for Sommer.
Yeah, ambitious by Solé.
Dumfries is rapid.
He's first to the ball.
Dumfries waiting to pick his moment.
This is Barela to seal the win.
Wayward.
Solé coming short.
Solé with a shooting chance.
Sommer is there.
And that might have just won the game for Inter.
This is saved by Sommer because you fancy Solé there.
Dare I say it, the last four games between Juric's Torino and Inter,
Torino failed to score.
Roma have failed to score tonight.
One goal did the trick for the Nerazzurri.
Solé with an added time effort pushed away by Sommer,
but it's Lautaro Martinez, the Inter skipper,
who has proven to be the match winner tonight.
Last season's capital, Canogneri, gets another goal in Serie A.
And Inter respond to their rivals by winning by a solitary goal.
It ends in the capital.
Roma nil, Inter one.
