Alright so it's time to get this pool opened up ready for summer. It's pretty late I know
and as you can see it's gone a little bit green. It does have a winter cover but the customers took
it off which I'm glad about. This also might be the last time I open this pool because the
customers have decided that they're going to fill it in at the end of the season.
They're not 100% sure but if they do I won't be upset but then again I will.
Upset because it's never nice to see a pool get filled in.
Happy because actually it's a bit of a pain in the arse. Have you seen the shape of this pool?
Putting the winter cover on and off is an absolute ball ache.
Anyway I'll do what I usually do, shock it and flock it. The shock I'm using is HTH shock and
it's working really well for me this season so I'll carry on using it. The flock is still the
same Blue Horizon. You can't really ever go wrong with this product. The shock's going to help kill
off all the algae and then the flock's going to help combine all the floating particles,
sink them down to the bottom of the pool so when I come back in a day or two it's going to be nice
clear and I can start hoovering the pool. That's what I hope for anyway. Sure enough a few days
later the pool is nice and clear. As you can see all the dead algae is on the bottom of the pool.
Time to get the vacuum equipment out. I'm going to back the pool to waste.
Every time a pool goes green after you've shocked it you always need to back it to waste
because your filters, no matter how good they are, they're never going to hold onto the algae.
It's just going to go through the system and come back out of the jets and cloud the pool up.
I like to try and back it to waste as quickly as I can so we don't lose too much water
but I can't go too quick because if I do it'll just cloud it up and then we have to start again.
Most of the pool is coming up pretty good as you can see here but there are still some stubborn
stains so I'm going to have to brush it and come back for a third visit. It doesn't happen all the
all the dead algae would have gone straight through the basket and then out the waste pipe.
Netted off the top, brushed the floor, put some more flock in, come back another day later.
It's nice and clear, there's more dead algae settled on the floor so I'm going to give it
one more back to waste and that should be the job done. And that is job done, however the customer
has come out and asked if I can pressure wash the surround. So they'll be seeing me again and I'll
said she wanted to get her pool opened up and ready for summer again. Got a lot of trees and
flowers and stuff around the pool so the covers got pretty dirty over winter. I'm going to give
it a spray down with the pressure washer first, get some cleaner out, scrub that in and then spray
it down with the pressure washer again before seeing what the pool looks like. It was pretty
hot so I thought banners may have wanted to cool down a little bit, sorry about that.
New pool guy merch is available by the way, loving this colour t-shirt. I'll drop a link in the
comments to where you can get new pool guy merch. So that's the cover all cleaned up, time to take
it back and look at the pool. It's pretty clear but it's green on the floor so what I'm going to
do is get the back set out, hoover the pool to waste and that's going to drop the water level a
little bit. Around the top of the pool is pretty green as well so I'm going to get a pressure washer
on that. I'll then brush up the whole pool, get some chemicals in and then I'll come back again.
All the bits settled on the floor is coming up pretty nicely though.
That's it, cover cleaned, pool hoovered, brushed and chemicals being added. I'll wait a few days
before I come back and hopefully it'll be nice and blue, just like this. I'll give it another
hoover then readjust the chemicals before putting the heater on and then it'll be ready for summer.
Cheese and ham sandwich from the customer, a bit of algae side to help prevent the growth of algae
and that's that job done, ready for summer. Follow your boy for the pool work.
