Welcome back to Andrea Jean Cleaning.
Today I'm gonna be sharing with you
a way to clean your grout that I have never seen before,
that I have tried, and I really, really enjoy.
And it only requires two things, and two things only.
Are you excited?
Are you ready?
In the description box, if you are new here,
I have tried a ton of different grout cleaning methods.
This is probably my number two favorite method.
So check out that whole playlist below.
Okay, here's what we got.
I got a bowl of warm water, a spoon for our magic solution.
I'll show you that here in a second.
Some gloves, just because.
I have never cleaned grout with a grout cleaning brush.
My husband picked this up for me.
It was about $2 at the Home Depot, not Home Depot, Menards.
The bristles are nice and tough,
and they fit really well in the grout lines here.
Now, my favorite method, the magic grout cleaner,
you don't need anything like this, okay?
So this is why this is my number two method.
But this is gonna be helpful
if you don't like the magic method.
I'm not gonna give it away.
I want you to check out that video.
Here's the product that we're gonna be using.
Borax, 20 Mule Team Borax.
My husband actually purchased this for, he got a turkey,
so it can be used for a variety of different reasons here,
but today we're gonna be using it on the grout.
So let me show you the grout.
We're gonna do a before and after.
It's gonna be good.
If you are new to Borax, Borax has so many different ways
that it can clean things around your house.
In fact, I'm gonna be doing a whole video about that,
but we're gonna start with this one.
But I was thinking to myself, what is this made of?
And so I looked it up,
and it's composed of 99.5% of pure Borax,
which is a naturally occurring mineral,
and it's composed of sodium, boron, oxygen, and water.
So I love that if you're looking for a more
all-natural product to clean your grout.
Okay, so what I'm gonna do,
I'm going to make a little solution, a little paste here.
Let's go ahead and do that.
Also in the description box, I have a whole playlist.
I might've put too much water in here.
A whole playlist about how to clean
pretty much anything in your house.
This channel is all about cleaning
and organizing for busy women.
If there's a way to clean something easier and faster,
I probably would have done it.
Yeah, I put way too much water in here.
That's okay, we're gonna work with what we have.
Depending upon the amount of grout that you're cleaning,
that will tell you how much water that you need
in order to make this paste.
So we'll get this going here.
We don't want it too soupy,
because that's gonna be way harder to clean up.
Now, there are some downsides to using powdered cleaners,
combinations for cleaning grout.
I've tried it with OxiClean, it's messy.
It's messy, you all.
That's the honest truth,
when you're putting any sort of paste down like this.
That's part of the reason it's not my favorite method.
It's time-consuming, and if you have large areas,
the application and cleanup, no bueno.
No bueno.
So that's why it's not my favorite,
because I don't wanna spend days cleaning grout.
I've pretty much mastered it, I think, at this point,
the best way possible.
This is a pretty good consistency for the paste.
I want it to go on the grout line nicely,
but I don't want it to be too soupy.
I can control it here with my spoon
when we dump it on there.
Okay, let's move down to the space here on my bathroom,
master bathroom floor, that we are going to transform here.
I'm gonna get you a nice and close.
Look at how dirty that is.
This camera is good.
I will tell you, to the naked eye,
it does not look as dark as it's showing up here on camera.
So this is the square.
We'll do this little intersection right here.
So let me get my gloves on, and we'll apply it.
All right, got my glove here.
Not that I necessarily need it,
because I got the grout brush here.
We got our solution mixture here.
So let's go ahead and apply this.
Now, I'm gonna talk about a couple of tips here
to help you in your grout cleaning process.
Your grout, once you clean it, you wanna let it fully dry.
We're gonna have to let this sit
once we give it a little good scrub here,
because that way we can see the full effect.
And I would say for it to dry,
it really depends upon the amount of ventilation
that you have in your home and the temperature.
But I would say a good hour,
at least a good hour to fully let it dry.
I'm gonna actually put a really generous amount on here.
So you can see why, if you're doing large areas
with any sort of like OxiClean or even this Borax,
it's time-consuming.
I mean, it just is, but it works.
This absolutely works,
especially if you don't wanna use a lot of harsh chemicals,
which I'm a fan of.
I'm quite pregnant right now,
if you've been watching any videos leading up to this.
So we're gonna do that.
Once you clean your grout,
you wanna make sure that you seal it.
There are products that are all-in-one sealers.
And again, I have a whole video
in the description box related to that.
That way your efforts have paid off for you.
You didn't spend all this time cleaning your grout
only to not have it sealed.
And I have some examples of good sealers
in the description box.
Let's just do a little bit more here.
Just really wanna give you a good effect on this one here.
Let me know in the comment box below,
do you have a particular way
that you like cleaning your grout
or specific products that you like?
Again, my favorite one is my Magic Grout Cleaner.
You just put it on and you wipe it away.
You don't even need to get on your hands and knees,
but it is not the most, shall I say,
environmentally friendly product.
I like natural products,
but I like chemical products as well.
I don't discriminate.
But if I can do something more natural,
that's not gonna take me a million hours,
you know what I'm saying?
Then I will definitely use that.
So the next thing that I'm gonna do
is I'm just gonna give us a good scrub.
I apologize if it's a bit noisy here on camera.
And you see how that grout brush
fits in there nicely?
Do you need a grout brush?
No, not necessarily,
but it does make the job a bit easier for you.
We'll go ahead and scrub this a little bit.
Now I will say how clean it gets often
is based on how much scrubbing you wanna do.
Truth be told.
We're gonna rub this in here.
And about like that.
I'm not gonna do a ton of scrubbing
because I do want you to see how well the product works.
I mean, you can see right there,
you see the grout already,
or excuse me, the paste from the grout
is already tinged brown.
So you can tell that it's already working.
So what I'm gonna do after this
is I'll go ahead,
I'm probably just gonna scrub just a tiny bit more,
and I will let it sit,
the product on here,
I don't know, 15, 20 minutes or so.
I don't think there's a magic number
that you need to let it sit,
but that was appropriate for me
when I have done this before.
So let's let this sit,
and we'll come back, wipe it clean,
and I'll show you what we're working with.
We are ready.
It's been about 15 minutes or so.
I just got a warm, clean bowl of water here.
And then this is an old kitchen towel
that I cut up and I use for cleaning purposes.
So let's go ahead and wipe this away.
And again, this method is great
if you have smaller areas.
Big, large areas,
I, and if you don't mind doing this,
you could certainly do it on really large areas.
But you see what I'm talking about?
Kind of, that happens.
Same thing if you're using like baking soda or OxiClean,
you're gonna get some residue
that you're gonna be dealing with,
but it does work really nicely.
If we are not friends on Instagram,
make sure you hit me up at andreageneco.
I teach women how to turn their passions into profits.
And this cleaning and organizing channel
is one way that I do that.
All right, so let me give it another good wipe,
and then I will clean up that residue right there.
And then, like I said,
we gotta let it sit for a while
so that it can completely dry
because you won't get the full effect.
It'll still look a little bit dark
because of the moisture.
So, looking good.
Okay, let's let this dry,
and I'll meet you back here
in probably about an hour or so.
I am super excited to show you the end results here,
but again, in case you're interested in,
I used this 20 Mule Team Borax,
and then this little grout brush,
about two bucks or so at Menards.
So let's take a peek.
Here we are.
This could probably still dry just a little bit more,
but look at that.
You can see that I have some product
that I did not get up completely here.
And a little bit over here,
so I will need to wipe that up.
But here is the after.
Let me get you in really close.
Let me show you what it looked like over here.
Yes?
Before,
after.
So if I pull you away,
you can definitely see the transformation right here.
So the Borax definitely works.
It's just a bit more time-consuming of a process.
You certainly can buy different devices
where you have a sort of a drill bit that scrubs it,
but once you seal your grout,
you should not have to be cleaning your grout
very often at all.
So it's up to you,
the process that you wanna take,
the sort of products that you wanna use.
But you can see here,
the Borax does a really beautiful job of whitening.
Time-consuming, but it does an excellent job.
If you are looking for more grout cleaning videos
where I've tried a whole slew of products
so that you can ultimately decide
in how to seal your grout,
make sure you check out those videos
in the description box below.
Give the video a thumbs up, subscribe if you are new,
and I will see you, my cleaning friend, in the next one.
