Compost 1st Flip
Composts made in the winter freeze if they don't have heat.
Making compost that heats up to 70 degrees even in cold weather.
Let's start now.
Welcome to jjamisama teobat.^^
1. Collect plenty of dry organic matter such as leaves, grass, and rice straw.
When the leaves fall in autumn, I get excited about making compost.
Making compost is one of my favorite things to do.
Leaves are an essential ingredient for healthy composting.
It's better to collect as many leaves as possible.
2. Collect food waste and make liquid waste.
To increase the fermentation temperature of winter compost,
We need organic matter that ferments before the leaves and reproduces the microorganisms quickly.
There's nothing like food waste to do that job.
It's good to put the food waste in the compost barn as it is, but
If you collect it and make liquid compost, it's a better composting material.
When the food residue is gathered,
Put in the microbial fermentation liquid that I made beforehand.
Making Microbial Fermented Liquid
Put the washed rice water in a 2-liter bottle.
Add one or two spoons of sugar or molasses.
Add one or two spoons of effective micro-organism (EM).
We put it in a dark place, shake it once in a while, and drain the gas.
Then, after a week, the microbial fermentation liquid is complete.
When the container is full of food waste,
pour in the microbial fermentation liquid and fill it up.
Stir it once in a while.
Add microbial fermentation
even when food waste is swollen and becomes stiff or has a bad smell due to poor fermentation.
This liquid fertilizer can grow more bacteria than anything else.
3. 'kkaesmug' (Sesame cake )
It takes about two bags of sesame to compost
without cow poop or chicken poop.
(Microbial fermentation liquid)
You can use the dry "kkaesmug" as it is,
but if you soak it in a microbial fermenter and use it, it ferments faster.
For your information, 'kkaesmug' is the easiest to get at a mill before or after Chuseok or Lunar New Year.
4. compostable oyster shell powder
Oyster shell powder is a natural calcium fertilizer.
Just as soil improvement agents are added every two to three years to improve the increasingly acidic soil,
adding oyster shells also helps neutralize the soil as it becomes alkaline compost.
Instead of oyster shells,
you can break shells or crab shells and add them.
This compost can be used for almost all crops except for crops such as blueberries, which like weakly acidic land.
5. Composting / From December 9th
When enough ingredients are ready to make compost, it's finally time to make compost.
December 9th.
I use a recycling box to prevent cold air from entering the compost bin.
Let's start stacking them.
First, I put thick ingredients at the bottom of the compost bin.
I put dry ingredients like leaves on top of it, then wet ingredients on top of it.
fallen leaves / dried ingredients
'kkaesmug' (Sesame cake ) /wet ingredients
I put in food waste, too.

And leaves.

Soil or compost accelerates fermentation.
If you are worried about antibiotics left in compost containing cow dung, it is recommended to use it after fermentation once more.
oyster shell powder
I adjust the moisture with water or microbial fermentation liquid.
(Where are you from? ^^)
It's already starting to get dark.
The sun goes down early in the mountain valley.
(It's embarrassing, but the most comfortable position^^)
That's it for today...
the next day
It doesn't have a fever yet.
I put in the fermented liquid fertilizer that I made.
It's been two months since it was made.
You can use it as a liquid fertilizer.
It acts as compost, water, and microorganisms at the same time.
Now, in the same order as yesterday, pile up the compost one by one.
I cover the soil or compost last.
I usually stack it about a meter high.
I cover it with plastic to keep the cold air out.
two days later
The temperature is starting to rise.
Three days later.
It's been a week.
Village broadcasting to watch out for snow 😊
The temperature during the day is below zero due to the severe cold wave. But the manure is warm.
The compost temperature is going up well.
the next day
Composting temperatures are 65 degrees, it's not going up any more.
I do the first flip to raise the temperature.
These are stacked in layers. If you mix the ingredients in layers, the temperature goes up.
It's only been a week since the compost was piled up, but all the food waste has gone into effect.
The leaves turned brown, which means they're fermenting well.
It's already ending.
It's really cold, but I'm sweating after turning over the warm compost.
Once you turn the compost upside down, you can see it's higher than the original height.
Before the first flip.
After the first flip,
That means there's more air in between the compost.
So the microbes will work harder by feeding on more air.
It stopped at 25 degrees Today
The next morning.
Thanks for watching.😊
