We RV camp at Mt. Robson Provincial Park in our Roadtrek Zion campervan as we continue our 2 week adventure in the Canadian Rockies. We enjoy great views of Mt. Robson and surrounding mountains, hike to beautiful Kinney Lake on the renowned Berg Lake trail, enjoy a peaceful campsite, chat about some differences between camping at a Provincial Park versus a National Park, and indulge in some tasty food at the Mt. Robson Café.
We just crossed the border back into BC and also into Mt. Robson Park and we have to move our clocks back an hour.
I feel an hour younger.
Yes.
I think it shows.
Music.
After some hemming and hawing we ended up taking this spot.
Too many choices actually.
There was a lot.
You can just see through here, right up ahead, Mt. Robson and snow just barely through there.
Behind us you can see some mountains as well.
So, nice spot.
Sometimes it's not good to have too much choice.
It was funny, there's two campsites here at Robson Provincial Park.
Robson Meadows, which we're in, and there are showers here.
Otherwise, there are pit toilets with showers.
Otherwise, dry camping.
The other side of the highway has, I think, half of the sites are electrical sites.
And there's not really that much difference other than there are some electrical sites there.
And it's full, basically.
And that one's called Robson River.
Yeah, Robson River, and it's full.
So everyone went to the site with the electrical one and we're here.
There's probably maybe a dozen other people here so far.
More first-come, first-served sites here anyway.
There's less at Robson River.
So we're just going to head over to the info center and see what's there.
It's about a kilometer away.
Jasper the Bear Ale.
Although now we're in Mount Robson Park.
Back in BC.
Yeah.
Just another bear.
We're just commenting campgrounds in Jasper.
Well, the main campground, I think it's called Whisper, is closed.
Whistler's.
Whistler's is closed.
And it's huge.
And so everything else close to the city is just packed.
And even though we were about a half hour, more than that, probably, 40 minutes away yesterday,
we checked into the campground that we were in, Honeymoon Lake,
and it was early afternoon and I think it was full by like 4.30.
Earlier than that.
Yeah, earlier than that.
And here there's two campgrounds.
We're in the second one, the Meadows.
Absolutely beautiful spots.
And I think less than a third of the sites are filled.
Now, it is the Monday night on a long weekend,
but we checked at two of the campsites in Jasper,
which, of course, is a national park as opposed to provincial,
but we checked at two and they were both packed.
They were fully reserved.
No room.
So just an amazing difference just being a little bit farther away.
And you're actually, you could easily drive here and back to Jasper if you wanted to on a day trip.
Quite easily.
It's like 40 minutes.
Anyway, cheers.
Cheers.
Tomorrow we'll try a trip towards...
Mount Robson.
Mount Robson Way.
The Kinney Lake Trail.
The amphitheater of our campground.
It's beautiful.
And look at the backdrop.
Alas, I'm lacking for words.
I think that's like a...
Elaine from Seinfeld.
Seinfeld dance.
A little bit more of the twisting of the ankle.
Morning, everyone.
So we just left our campsite
and we're heading over to do a hike up to Kinney Lake.
And this is just a short part of the Berg Lake Trail
that goes beside Mount Robson.
Hoping we'll get some nice views up there.
And it's a beautiful day.
And Mount Robson is completely clear of clouds today.
So it's just beautiful.
Spectacular.
Because we left the RV behind,
we have to walk 2 kilometers up this road.
And if you don't want to do the extra 4 kilometers round trip,
then you can take your truck or RV all the way to the trailhead.
Yesterday we drove up here and it was really busy.
The parking lot was completely full and cars are parked on the side.
So I'm sure it's just busy today.
Or maybe not. Yesterday was a holiday Monday.
The parking lot is absolutely full again today.
So our tip is to come early if you're driving to the trailhead.
It was about a 20 minute walk for us, so not too bad.
It goes for another 16 kilometers.
Not today. We'll be back. We have to do an overnight backpacking.
We're up at Kinney Flats at Kinney Lake.
Kinney Lake, the trail in was very easy.
It's about 4.5 kilometers to the beginning of the lake, which is just beautiful.
It took us under an hour, like 50 minutes.
So it's a relatively flat trail.
And then you can come another 3 kilometers or so and you hit the campsite.
And the campsite is just beautiful.
Some tent pads right by the water.
Just spectacular.
And there's a shelter for folks if you want to cook in if it's raining.
Just a gorgeous place.
Main trail right behind us.
And then heads up and then cuts in the valley on the other side of that glacier.
And carries on to Berg Lake.
And there's supposed to be many waterfalls along the route as well.
Yeah, we saw a couple. We'll try and stop on one on the way back.
So this is probably, I don't know, where are we at now?
About 8 kilometers, 8.5 km from the trailhead.
So we'll head back shortly.
Just beautiful. It's just about 1.30 in the afternoon or something right now.
It's nice and warm, toasty, gorgeous.
What a beautiful day.
It's so nice.
You walk in and it's forested.
There's a section of forest that's all big cedar trees.
And then you walk along and there's almost a beach-like area.
And then you get to the campground and then you get to this beautiful area.
So it's very nice. We really like it here.
Guys, how was the trip?
It was great.
Did you go up to Berg Lake?
We did, yeah.
Nice.
Yeah, it was awesome up there.
A good day.
Check on Precious.
Oh, it's nice and cool in here.
How's our little girl doing?
Hi.
Hi, did you have a good day?
Ariel?
Hi.
Oh, yes.
Let's see what the temperature is.
Oh, 22 is not too bad.
Oh, it's only 20 degrees out there. Not too bad at all.
Did you have a good rest?
I think you did. I think you did.
Yes, you did.
You had a good rest, I can tell.
Dinner tonight at the cafe at the info center.
This is a very nice beer, Mt. Robson.
Chicken sandwich, potato salad.
This is made in Belmont, B.C.
This wine is from Prince George, B.C. and I don't remember the name of it.
And a vegan wrap.
And everything tastes great because we had a good hike and we're hungry.
And a nice view of Mt. Robson from here.
Rainy day out there today.
Good morning, everyone.
I just wanted to show you this scone.
Mixed berry scone.
It's really good.
Freshly baked from the cafe at the Mt. Robson stop where the information center is.
So it's good coffees, good teas.
Yeah, we've had the food there quite good.
Yeah, we had dinner there last night.
Simple fare, but it's very good.
So we've now left Mt. Robson Provincial Park and we're heading towards Belmont.
And we'll probably stop there and check our internet and pick up some beer.
Continue on with our trip.
So I hope you enjoyed the visit to Mt. Robson with us.
We had a great hike.
Really enjoyed it here.
The campground was fantastic.
Yeah, I can't really recommend the campground higher.
There's two on either side of the road.
Lots of space between the sites.
Some are heavily treed if you're in a really hot day.
Others are a little bit more open.
So, yeah, I really liked it.
The park itself, it's just gorgeous.
The views of Mt. Robson, which are going to dominate most of our video.
But, you know, there's a number of places to hike.
We just did the hike up to McKinney Lake.
And it was great.
So we're not sure where we're going to head and stay tonight.
We'll just wing it and see what happens.
Considering Wells Grave Provincial Park.
But anyway, this is it for this video.
If you enjoyed this video, please be sure to give us a thumbs up.
We really appreciate that.
