President Biden will be leaving office in January, despite some notable disagreements with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, Biden was able to sign several significant bills into law and TD correspondent Jason Blair brings us some of the highlights.
Despite a rather disagreeable environment on Capitol Hill, four years of a Biden administration saw quite a few rather noteworthy bills being signed into law.
This is especially so during Biden's first two years when Democrats had more control in the Senate and the House.
One notable bill is the Inflation Reduction Act.
While the name is a little misrepresentative, it was heavily focused on climate change.
It's considered by many to be the largest legislative action on climate in the nation's history.
It also focused on lowering prescription drug prices.
It gave Medicare the ability to negotiate these prices with pharmaceutical companies.
And Biden proudly announced the first 10 prescription drugs earlier this year.
We have to have enough insurance to afford the medical bills.
We'll have to sell the house to get a second mortgage.
There are discussions that took place in my house and your house.
Kamala, I both get it.
You know, it isn't just about health care.
It's about your dignity.
Oh, it's about your dignity.
It's about peace of mind.
It's about security.
It's about taking care of your family.
It's about giving folks just a little bit more breathing room.
Then there's the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act or bipartisan infrastructure deal.
Biden has been particularly proud of his bipartisan bills.
And the one trillion dollar infrastructure bill had 19 Republicans supporting it in the Senate,
including minority leader Mitch McConnell and 13 Republicans in the House.
The bill allocated funds to repair and expand transportation, broadband, Internet power,
infrastructure and clean drinking water.
A few more notable mentions include the 2022 Chips and Science Act.
This provided about fifty three billion dollars in government funding to enhance domestic
semiconductor production, reducing dependence on China and the one point nine trillion dollar
American rescue plan, which was brought in in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and one of the
first major legislative efforts Biden made after coming into office.
