There's a Reason No One Has Skied This Line—Until Now

STORY OF A SKI

Oh my god. Those are some flips.
I had been coming up here literally since I was 16 and haven't gotten eyes on it at 17 and then
pretty much thinking about it from then on. I had always dreamed of skiing down this thing top to
bottom. My name's Will Wissman. I've been a ski and snowboard photographer since the late 90s.
The first time I looked at Monospine and it kind of seemed like it was potentially doable was in
2013. That season the ice had changed quite a bit at the bottom in the runout so there was actually
a way through all the seracs. Over the years there was one snowboarder and one skier that
actually got dropped off on the top of Mono and both of them got picked up because they just
weren't confident in that initial entry which is the crux to the whole run.
Dude this looks sick.
That is the sharpest spot I've ever seen.
All good man. Way to get in there.
You don't want to tumble because there's a huge bergschrund and then below that like
300 foot ice cliff that you'd probably get swept off of.
This thing is 2,000 vert of spine and it's absolutely knife edge.
Love you mom, love you dad.
Three, two, one, drop.
Who knows what we'll find in the future but as far as my career so far it was such a highlight.
Having looked at it for so many years and having it never been ridden and having it be just still
this giant up here in Haines, Alaska that all of us have been staring at for so long. Getting the
opportunity to ski that was certainly a career highlight.
I'm content for the rest of my life dude.
It's all I like had seen and hadn't gotten to ski that I was like dude I could go.
