While sparkling wine may bring up images of sparklers, luxury, and extravagance, I've found the best champagne alternatives (aka cheap sparkling wine) out there which should not even cost you more than P400 or $8! This is an updated of my previous sparkling wine videos last year. I've featured Cava, Prosecco, and Cremant. But this year, local Philippine supermarkets have upped their sparking wine game and even giving us better champagne alternatives! This year's line up features a Spumante Bianco Brut from Spanish Wine Producer Felix Solis, a Cuvee Brut from Southeastern Australia producer Woflblass, and another Australian Sparkling Cuvee from Rothbury Estate. Is sparkling wine only for special occasions? Sparkling wine is usually tied into big and small celebrations. From marking the New Year, celebrating a business or personal milestone, or winning a championship, nothing marks a celebration like sparkling wine. The way that the French have built and positioned the Champagne brand turning it into a produce of prestige have solidified the synonymity between sparkling wine and triumph. As much as that's benefited the French wine industry (and rightfully so), sparkling wine has often been thought to be elusive and only for special occasions. I blame Champagne's expensive price for this! But in reality, sparkling wine is consumed as a daily/any time of day drink for the countries that make them. Just as still wine is consumed and paired with daily meals, the same goes for sparkling wine. While sparkling wine might have been elevated to this positioning of being a special occasion drink, sparkling wine can be a daily drink if you can find it in reasonable price points. Other sparkling wines are thankfully reasonable priced such as Prosecco, Spumanti, Lambrusco, and Blanc de Blanc. But personally, no one produces better value than the Spanish do for their prized (but inexpensive) Cava!
Sparkling wine is personally a great catch-all drink for me fitting for any occasion. While we typically go through lengths trying to find the right wine and food pairing, sparkling wine has the special quality to transcend the different food groups and work with an extensive variety of food. While sparkling wine may work best with shellfish and soft cheeses, its extensive flavor profile doesn't limit it to being just another white wine. Even as it's inherently white wine, it can work with red meat, stews, and meat-laden charcuterie plates typically reserved for red wine. Because of its carbonated texture, it can take on rich flavors of red meat in the way that still white wine typically cannot. Aside from traversing your main dishes, sparkling wine even works well with dessert as its texture and taste profile can even take on sweets. In fact, sparkling wine is known to mix well even with breakfast and brunches! Mixing sparkling wine with juices are heralded, better known as Mimosas and Bellinis.
Aside from working with well with any meal any time of day, sparkling wine is also a great bottle to bring to any occasion! Whether it's a intimate brunch, a lunch in the garden with extended family, a fancy dinner party, or a big social event, sparkling wine fits well and applauded in any of these occasions.
I'm Mark, and on this channel, I usually talk about business and investments.
But for special occasions like this, I do lifestyle videos, especially wine.
After a long time, we're finally back with another wine video.
Please note that I am not a wine professional, I am not a sommelier, nor do I have any credentials
I am simply a wine enthusiast who has
I am very pleased to be able to speak about the fact that the Commission has already made a number of proposals to the Council.
Wine again, and I know a lot of you get especially curious about wine when it comes to the holiday
So happy holidays guys. I know this is a time that a lot of you get really curious about
There is no wine that is celebrated in the holidays like champagne.
You're practical, and you're looking for good value, buying champagne simply isn't in my price
So what I have here today would be champagne alternatives or simply sparkling wine.
In my videos last year, I shared about Cava, Prosecco, and Cremant.
Again, you can only call it champagne if it's coming from the champagne
The Commission has a number of proposals for the development of a European information society.
So, champagne gets quite expensive, but the good news is there are many more sparkling wines
So what we have here today would be
I've been doing a little shopping, and I'm glad
to see that in supermarkets all over, there seems to be more sparkling wine that is more affordable
And I don't know if I or this channel have anything to do with it.
So if you haven't subscribed yet, please do so now.
So without further ado, let me introduce you to the first wine on this list.
So this is a Spanish wine from the region of La Mancha.
This bottle is branded as Provetto from the Felix Solis winery.
It's actually listed as a Spumante.
So Spumante is a type of sparkling wine. This actually says that it's a Brut. So Brut would be a kind of sparkling wine.
And also if you're not sure if it's sparkling wine,
It has a cork, which I'll show you later.
So this wine also comes in a rosé variant.
You can also try the rosé version.
It's actually written in Italian, but it's a Spanish wine.
But I don't know why this Spanish wine tries to disguise itself as an Italian.
Maybe because Italian wines are generally more popular around the world.
If you're Spanish, please don't get mad at me.
Actually, it's now Marketplace or Robinson Selections.
So stay tuned for that. Let's move on to our second wine. We fly across the world
So this is written as a Cuvée Brut.
And its sub-branding for this particular collection is Eagle Hawk.
Now, this bottle is available at S&R Membership Shopping.
And this comes at 379 pesos. Okay. So finally, we're staying in Australia and still
We have here another sparkling cuvée.
So this is coming from Rothberry Estate.
And as shared earlier, this is how typically a sparkling wine
So this is actually the first one that I've seen that doesn't have the
So this one is a little more minimalist, a little bare bones.
So this one is actually quite new. I didn't start seeing this in the supermarket from S&R.
So this has been a really good find.
So let's get to the most expensive price of the whole thing.
Let's pop this bottle open. Look for this tab that you can usually pull on so that
Not all bottles are going to have this type of pull tab,
But when it's there, it's much easier to open.
So again, that one just sells without the foil.
Sparkling wine would be putting your thumb on top of the cork and you twist the wiring
So at this stage, it's always good to point the
So try to point it at your face, not at anyone else.
When you have loosened the wires, make sure that you are
I'm still guarding the cork because it can pop quite violently.
I try to minimize the pop. I try to twist it
I actually did it that time. and of course, I have here a trusted
So you can actually get these in many of the department stores here locally.
You can get this in SM, Landmark, or wherever.
wine is that it works well with flutes because a wine flute would actually help you keep the
You can actually use a regular wine glass. It doesn't really matter.
To keep the bubbles for a longer period, I suggest you get a wine flute like this.
So if you see, the color is quite golden. It's making me think of beer right now.
So cheers guys, happy holidays!
This wine doesn't have as much of a fizz as these other two.
I'm going to be tasting and opening this one bottle of wine.
This wine is actually more like a citrus.
Usually these sparkling wines would be towards lemon, a little bit of
If this wasn't a sparkling wine, this would be similar to a sparkling wine.
Chardonnay or a Chablis or a Chenin Blanc.
For people who like a little more structure, it's not as citrusy sweet as probably
So these other two coming from Australia have a little bit of
So of these three, I actually like the Rothberry Estate the best.
You have a balance of sweetness, saltiness, and sourness.
But for now, I guess you're just gonna have to take my word.
Our local supermarkets have more sparkling wine right now.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone with that, but as shared in my previous
I think we should be drinking wine that is really being exported globally.
In as much as it's coming from Italy and that's a fair import, it's really focused on the Philippine
But I guess if you really wanted to know more about wine, to increase your knowledge about
What the Europeans and South Americans do drink around the world, then I think you might be better
They're a little more expensive, but in terms of alcohol
I think Novelino is about 7% usually for their wine.
in terms of wine knowledge and understanding of the wine industry or better appreciation of wine,
You might be better off investing your money in these types of bottles.
I'm just sharing my own personal preference and my own
I really hope to do more wine videos, but I know people only get curious about wine
towards the end of the year, and wine, even sparkling wine, really deserves to be drunk
Have you tried these sparkling wines before?
