Welcome to the Brecon Beacons, we arrived last night late, set up our pitch here in
the trees just below Penny Fan up here. We're in the hammocks this this weekend,
we're doing a little ultralight trip, all of our pack weight including everything
food, water, camera gear is under nine kilograms each which is awesome. So we're
just having some coffee and breakfast and then we're gonna meet up with Scott
from Explorer Buddies, he's arriving shortly, he's driven over from Bristol
and we're gonna hit mountains and yeah we're gonna be out for tonight and then
heading back out on Sunday. So that's that's the plan so far, come along and
hopefully we'll have some fun. We've met up with Scott from Explorer Buddies and
we are heading up that way, we're going up to Corndew, Penny Fan and Cribbon,
gonna do a bit of a loop, camp down at the reservoir and then loop on back. So
we did this camp about seven months ago, six months ago, it was in February, right at the
beginning of February, in the snow, so we're gonna try it again in the summer and see how
different it is and how hard it is to do in warm weather. Go check out the snow
video. Go check that out, that was really cold. So yeah, we're gonna hit the trail
and we'll catch up with you guys soon.
You can probably just see there's some people set up, camping down next to a little tarn.
There's actually another tent just here as well. It's quite early in the day for that
but fair enough, each to their own as long as they take everything with them and
leave it like they find it. What are you saying? It looks like it, I saw smoke. It's
quite early for people to be pitched up, or late, so as long as they take
everything with them and leave it as they found it, it's fine. Just in case we're gonna throw rocks at them from here.
That's a good shout, yeah. Let's get some rocks together. It is quite far to throw, it's pretty
hazy. Not too bad though, good visibility. Meg's is getting hot. Struggling in waxed
trousers, that was a poor decision. Tell me something I don't know. Oh, I don't know what you don't know.
There's a lot of things I don't know. What did the sexy brown chicken say to the sexy brown cow?
What did it say? Brown chicken, brown cow. That was a good bad joke. For all of you who are into
alternative medicine and stuff like that, I found something out the other day
because someone said I should try colloidal silver and just so you know if
you take too much colloidal silver you can literally turn blue permanently. I'm not
saying you will and I'm not saying it doesn't work but Google blue colloidal
silver man and you'll see a geezer in America who took too much colloidal
silver and he's turned smurf blue. It's insane, yeah. Anyway, it's a useless fact
for you. You're cheating, he sat down though. I was waiting for you, I'm literally waiting for them to.
It's unbelievable. The cheek of it. He just walked faster so he could sit down. That is one of the perks.
Meg's has achieved the mighty summit of Corn Dew. It is a mighty summit and the last
mountain he climbed was in March and he's done no mountains in between so I'd say that's a feat.
Get away from the crowds. Welcome to Corn Dew, the place where dreams are made. Corn Dew where dreams come true.
Salted almond butter nugglets. Scott's giving us the full moon over here.
Filling up with water. Meg's is coming down off the hill. So yeah we're just gonna grab some
water at this little fountain of youth. Oh you got the Caterdine B3. I was
looking at it the other day and I was like I'm definitely gonna get it because
I've seen the flow rate on it is really good. I've not mentioned this in my video
so I bought this a couple of years ago and it got damaged, it got a puncture in it.
I sent him an email, the next minute two weeks later I had a brand new one sent through.
Two years later. What's the flow rate like on it really good? I was watching.
Well the mad thing is you can sometimes think it's not working because
the actual filter bit dries up and what you have to do is soak it in there for a minute or so
and then the flow rate so it probably... Because I was watching a comparison video between
well I've got the oh yeah that's really good. I was watching a comparison between the Sawyer
Squeeze Micro. I've got the Sawyer Squeeze Micro with and they were comparing that and that and
the flow rate on that was quite a bit quicker but the only thing the only difference is that
one's only rated to last a thousand litres whereas the Sawyer's 10,000 litres and I've
had the one Sawyer I've got I've had for five years and it's still going. It has slowed down
but it is still going. But the other good thing there's a company in America again they've been
brilliant because when I broke. Is it the Hydropax? No oh CNOC yeah. CNOC so this basically
fits that filter directly. They've just brought out the only thing with B3 is the thread is they've
got their own unique thread you can't get anything to fit that so they've just got together so that
but have you seen that you know the people who make the original B3 bag it's called Hydropax
you have to look them up online they make some of the best water bags around and they're out
they're on sale at the moment in the UK a two litre one for 13 quid and it's called Hydropax.
I'll show you they're really good like I've seen people literally chucking them down hills and
they don't break and they make B3's the original Katadyn bag that one there is made by Hydropax
you can buy them in the UK I'll show you later. This one I had it brand new from America
it had a pinprick in it emailed them the other day send him out a new one
nice you know so I'm gonna fill up some of this water. We're on Pen Y Fan
so yeah we've been up here before we've touched the summit we don't need to do it again
let's get away from the humans let's go find something
it's 18 degrees ambient temperature but the wind's obviously making it feel
a bit cooler yeah not too bad as long as you're moving we're only just coming up for doing four
miles so far but um they've been hard four miles 600 meters of ascent or so so you know
not much but you know it's all good
they're all blowing out there blowholes yeah little dolphins dolphins swimming up the mountain
I think winter was much harder I had crampons on and massive packs you just we're just going
very slowly in winter but we're coming up Kribben now so we're gonna hit up here drop
down the other side find somewhere to have lunch up Kribben it's actually less windy up here than
it was on the walk up which is quite nice I'm gonna find somewhere nice to sit down have some
lunch and then head out that way somewhere before dropping down to the reservoir where we're gonna
hang our hammocks this evening but I am in need of some sustenance team
we've stopped for a little bite of lunch yeah it started raining but it stopped again so
no issue on that front pretty breezy where we stopped some soba noodles and me and Meg's had
some Heinz creation beans they're pretty good actually quite a bit of flavor pretty cheap
yeah it's good it's good these little things in here yeah just gonna have something sweet
and have a bit of water and then uh I reckon we're gonna go up Fan Big big fan
Fanny Big that's a name filled with innuendo lunch is lunched done rest is rested
and now we're ready to go Megan's tightened her laces Scott has
eaten a cliff bar quite ployy he said but very tasty filtered a little bit of water
packed nice and light had a little bit of rain still breezy yeah it's not too bad sun's coming
out a bit it's about 19 degrees at the moment so really warm actually it's 24 degrees when
we started down in the valley but yeah we're gonna crack up Fanny Big you're gonna crack
no laughing people
big and this is Scott's climbed off the edge to get a water bottle
we're out of the mountains kind of well we came off of
Fanny Big and now we are at Talibont Forest in a car park and we've just had a cup of coffee
and now we're going to take a road that does have a name back to the reservoir where we're
going to hang up our hammocks and I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like without snow
so we're just trying to find a camp spot now we're in this nice little wooded area
just down below the peaks and the Brecons and yeah I think we're all feeling the miles now
so just finding a little spot where we can pitch up and camp down and in here find a nice little
place where we can hang and where Scott can pitch his tent yeah then we can chill make some food
looking forward to it good day feels good thousand meters of ascent which in feet is
I'll insert it here over a thousand meters of descent and over 12 miles which is you know not
with that ascent it was not bad so yeah let's find a spot
