After a six day manhunt, a man is in custody in connection with the murder of the United
Health Care CEO.
With more on who that person is and how a trip to McDonald's led to his arrest, we're
joined now by Eyewitness News reporter Rob Hayes.
Rob?
Yeah, Jory, investigators are calling Luigi Mangione a strong person of interest in the
shooting.
And we are getting a new peek at what he looks like.
This photo, fresh into the newsroom moments ago, showing Mangione in the Altoona, Pennsylvania
police station.
It was taken shortly after he was arrested today.
Investigators believe he acted alone in gunning down that health care executive.
Mangione was arrested at a McDonald's restaurant in Pennsylvania when a Greyhound bus he was
riding in stopped for a break.
For the past five days, the world has seen the alleged killer in short clips, sometimes
his face behind a mask, other times unobscured.
Today, those images led to an arrest and a name.
In a news conference this morning, investigators said they have Mangione in custody, booked
right now on firearms charges.
Guys, this one's hot off the press.
Many people are already claiming that they've got the wrong guy.
Now, I'm going to circle back to that a little bit later in this video, but let's get straight
to the facts, alright?
And believe me when I tell you that this is already looking like a very strange case.
According to reports, Luigi Mangione was ID'd by employees at Altoona McDonald's about
after five days on the run.
This is what's already written in these news outlets.
Even though we're not entirely certain if this is the same guy who killed the health
care CEO.
So, Mangione was said to have been startled after he was recognized and then taken into
custody on firearms charges.
Now, initially, he wasn't charged for murder, but Manhattan prosecutors filed that as well
as other charges just recently.
As to how he was caught, it's said that an elderly patron tipped off the police, thinking
that Mangione resembled the lone shooter so much that it's possible that he was the suspect.
Remember that the photos released at that point were mostly of the shooter's eyes since
he was wearing a hoodie and a mask.
Mangione, 26 years old, was found wearing a medical mask and looking at his silver laptop
computer.
His backpack was on the floor near the table.
The officer who positively assessed that he was the suspect of the CEO shooting, he was
a rookie who's been on the force for like six months.
Altoona police officer Tyler Fry says that he and his partner didn't think twice about
apprehending Mangione and they were positive that this was their guy.
Reports show that he had with him a 3D-printed ghost gun, a gun silencer, and four fake IDs
when he was arrested.
He was at the restaurant and as soon as he was wearing a blue medical mask, as soon as
we pulled that down, or we asked him to pull it down, me and my partner and I recognized
him immediately.
Just from what we saw in the media, with photos, videos, we just didn't even think twice about
it.
We knew that was our guy.
He was very cooperative with us, didn't really give us too many issues.
Once we found out his identity, we took it from there.
How does it feel after six months on the job and a law enforcement officer who's part of it?
I can't say I was expecting it by any means, but it feels good to get a guy like that off
the street, especially starting my career this way.
It feels great.
Many people online have questioned why a suspect who's on the run would actually sit down to
have a meal at McDonald's.
That is a little suspect.
What's more is that there's a lot of questions as to why he had most of the items that the
suspect allegedly had.
I guess what many people just can't figure out is how he fumbled this badly, especially
since the suspect looked like a professional hitman who knew what the heck he was doing.
And then, of course, there's the manifesto.
Besides the gun and the silencer, police say that they read his manifesto, which he had
on him.
In it, it reported that Mangione referred to the UnitedHealthcare as simply united and
that they are one of the largest companies by market capitalization in the United States.
Mangione is described as an anti-capitalist Ivy League graduate, even graduating as a
valedictorian in the Gilmore School in Baltimore back in 2016.
Every year they have like somebody who's, you know, exceeds academically and in and
out of the classroom and they have them speak in front of our high school.
It's weird saying it, but yeah, he was that person that we chose to speak.
So yeah.
Okay.
So you've been following this case pretty closely when you saw the photo with him wearing
his mask.
What were your thoughts?
My first thoughts?
Well, I, I've had like a history just following like high profile cases.
It was just interesting to me personally.
When I saw the photo, like I thought it was like a 35 year old guy.
It was like, he's a good looking dude, like sharp jawline kind of thing.
But I had no hindrance that it was him.
I mean, in the back of my mind, I was like, I feel like that face is familiar, but it
was like subconsciously not really like on the forefront.
So when did you find out and you know, what's your reaction to it?
So when I found out I had like 25, 30 text messages from all different people from like,
I'm from Baltimore, obviously where we went to school together.
And everybody that I know from Baltimore is reaching out to me like, did you know this
guy?
Did you go to school with him?
He graduated in the same class as you.
And of course I, you know, replied to all of them after a while and said, yeah.
So my initial reactions were just shock, surprise.
And I, yeah, I just would never expect someone who went to our school to, you know, be involved
in this.
So it was just shock.
Really?
I'm still shocked.
Now it's also shocking to know that Mangione social media accounts are still up, at least
within the time that I've recently checked.
His ex account also shows something peculiar.
It's evident that Mangione had an active lifestyle, but besides that there's an x-ray showing
what appears to be a person's back.
Now we can't confirm if it's his or if it's from someone he knows, but it looks to be
some sort of a spinal injury.
And then there's the Pokemon.
It's called a Breloom and it's counted as number 0286.
Many have questioned why Mangione chose this particular character for his profile.
A user on X states that it's probably based on Proverbs 28.6.
That part reads better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are
perverse.
Now again, we're not 100% sure if this is just a coincidence, but it's a bit of a reach.
Now there's also the possibility of that x-ray being his and him being screwed over by health
insurance.
We really can't say any of that for certain at this point though.
Everything we have at the moment are mostly assumptions.
Which brings me to a shocking revelation.
So Mangione is said to be the heir to a holiday resort fortune created by his grandparents.
Also his brother is a top doctor.
We're not really sure how all of this blends into him allegedly murdering a CEO, but it's
adding even more intrigue to this entire case.
With some people saying that it's time for a change when it comes to health care and
insurance.
Speaking of which, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy recently went to D.C. to talk about their
essential promise to put the law before a family.
I said I abide by the jury decision.
I will do that and I will not pardon him.
Letting the world know that he will not wipe away the decision of 12 of his son's peers
was asked directly and he has said he wouldn't pardon his son if he gets convicted.
Let's wait and see what happens if he loses.
Yeah, but I mean, but he said it.
He's going to get pardoned by his dad.
There's no question about that.
The president has ruled out pardoning his son.
Major commitment from the president accepting the outcome of the trial and also pledging
not to pardon his son.
The challenge for him is really to continue to live up to his values when it was really
personal and he did that today.
It seems like a pretty normal, straightforward answer, but it it it takes new weight when
we see what Trump is saying about the outcome of his trial.
We're hearing by the Republicans who say they don't accept the jury's verdict here in New
York.
The contrast is profound to sit there and say, well, I'm not going to intervene in the
legal process and I wouldn't pardon my son.
One side, Democrats and Joe Biden protecting the justice system and on the other, Republicans
and Trump protecting Trump.
A current president of the United States has so much respect for the law that he has said
he would not pardon his son.
I mean, what, you know, again, it's all about the contrast.
President Biden saying I will respect whatever this jury decides versus Donald Trump after
he was convicted on 34 counts, saying the entire system is rigged against him.
Well, they're looking so stupid right now and I'm pretty sure that they don't like the
idea of the White House making them look this foolish, which is why Corringe chose not to
call on Fox News or any other skeptics of the White House during the first on-camera
briefing after the Hunter Biden pardon.
Because I'm thinking that the first words from Peter Ducey would be, I told you so.
But without calling out Peter Ducey, she still got roasted pretty freaking hard by those
within the legacy media.
And what really makes this that much more embarrassing is that we're using her own
words against her.
Watch.
A different part of your question.
In your first briefing here, as press secretary, you committed to speaking to the American
people, and I quote, in a transparent way, in a truthful way, and an honest way.
Yes.
And then in July, here at this podium, you were asked about the president pardoning his
son and he said, it's a no, it will be a no, it's a no.
Yes.
And that is exactly right.
So clearly, because of the president's son and that pardon, it became a yes.
I'm wondering if you would like to explain to us, the American people, really, why the
information that you provided turned out not to be true.
And I answered this question on Monday.
We spent about 30 minutes on this, almost 30 minutes, roughly 30 minutes on this particular
issue.
And I'm just going to reiterate what I said on Air Force One to your colleagues when I
did the gaggle.
And look, if you look at his statement, it's pretty comprehensive.
The statement that he put out on Sunday when he made this decision to pardon his son, Hunter
Biden, it's in his own voice.
I think it takes you through his thinking.
And he did.
He wrestled with this.
And again, he said in his statement, in his own voice, that he made that decision this
past weekend.
And the fact is, when you think about how the president got to this decision, circumstances
have changed.
They have.
And a couple of things, and I said this on Monday as well, Republicans said they weren't
going to let up, weren't going to stop.
Recently announced Trump appointees for law enforcement have said on the campaign that
they were out for retribution.
And I think we should believe their words, right?
We should believe what they say.
Now, remember, guys, the DOJ is under President Biden right now.
He doesn't have the right to say that this is political targeting since he knows for
a fact that he can pardon his son.
He knew from the very beginning that the decision of the Justice Department meant nothing.
And even if Republicans went after Hunter Biden for crimes that he allegedly committed,
wouldn't it be an admission of guilt to grant him a pardon like this?
Because an innocent man wouldn't be afraid of investigations, right?
They've also admitted the truth out loud.
They are, in fact, aware that the cases against Trump were political persecution.
They just don't want it to happen to Hunter Biden as well.
So they can just pretty much weaponize the Justice Department so long as they're in
power.
The minute that's gone, they have to do something to protect themselves from future
investigations.
So, no, Corringe did not deliver the transparency, truth, and honesty that she promised to the
American people.
Her trying to defend President Biden's decision is proof that she is willing to lie through
her teeth for them.
She also effectively said that she doesn't owe anyone, especially the American people,
an apology.
She also answered most of the questions the same way, by repeating over and over that
President Biden wrestled with this idea.
Does anyone give a damn that President Biden wrestled with this idea?
He ultimately came to a decision that was unfair, unjust, and makes a complete mockery
of the Department of Justice.
Now, I know that he's old, but he's not the undertaker.
He believes in the justice system.
He believes the facts are.
The facts are.
Obviously, I talked about the gun charges, what legal experts have said, former prosecutors
have all agreed virtually no one would be criminally prosecuted for underlying factors
of Hunter's case.
I talked about the gun charges.
I talked about the taxes, the tax cases.
And there are other factors here.
What Republicans have said, as they weren't going to let up.
I talked about the upcoming sentencing and what Hunter and his family have been through.
I talked about the appointees by the incoming president on law enforcement positions.
And he wrestled with it.
He did.
So she's saying that Hunter wouldn't be criminally prosecuted if the case went on, right?
So the president did nothing wrong.
But why would he pardon his son's actions for more than a decade?
Something just doesn't feel right with that number, right?
It's almost as bad as this number that she's also lied about.
Watch.
That there was a poll, a US Gulf poll that came out that some of you all reported on
it.
And it said 64% of the American people agree with the pardon, 64% of the American people.
So we get a sense of where the American people are on this.
Obviously, it's one poll, but it gives you a little bit of insight.
Clean up the government's budget.
A lot of Democrats are not happy about this, with some of them claiming that it's all a
joke.
I covered this in a previous live stream where a federal worker was caught working from their
bathroom tub.
This is one you definitely won't want to miss, so I highly advise you guys check that one
out.
As always, I appreciate you, guys, being here and hitting that like button.
