Hello and welcome to my channel.
We are a big family of German learners from all over the world.
And I'm really happy that you are here today.
A lot of German learners have something in common.
They have difficulties with a topic.
Which one?
So with Conjunctive 2.
And that's why this video is exactly about this topic.
And I'll show you that it's not that hard
if you've understood it once.
If you want to use Conjunctive 2,
then you should first of all think about one thing.
Whether you're talking about now,
so about the present, what's happening now,
or about the past,
First, let's start with the present.
That is, with what is happening right now,
if you want to speak now.
And for that, I ask you to imagine
that I'm not a teacher,
but a millionaire
who has a lot of money and feels very good.
And that's why I'm writing a sentence about me now.
And that is,
I am a millionaire,
have a lot of money, of course,
and therefore travel the world.
That's a sentence, just in the present.
You already know the present,
so we have verbs like bin.
Which verb is that?
Exactly, from being.
Have, travel,
so everything is already known in the present.
Okay, now you can forget
that I'm a millionaire.
I'm not, I'm just the teacher.
And that's why we're back to reality now.
But I can imagine
that I'm a millionaire.
And I can also say,
and this is where subjunctive 2 helps me.
What would my sentence be like,
which I just wrote,
in subjunctive 2?
So like this.
If I were a millionaire,
I would have a lot of money,
so I would travel the whole world.
And now we want to take a closer look.
So again, the black sentence
is a real sentence,
in the present simple.
Here we knew
that I'm a millionaire.
The second sentence, so the blue one,
that is, of course, unreal,
so subjunctive 2,
that I can imagine,
but which is not true.
And now we compare.
Here we have bin
and the verb would be.
We can do it like this.
Then we have to have
and the verb to have
or would have in our case.
Then we have to travel
and the verb would travel.
And now let's summarize.
How do you finally form subjunctive 2
in the present tense
when we talk about now?
So for all verbs
there is a universal formula,
which in itself is really great.
And this formula is
would or would because
when you talk about plural
plus infinitive.
That really always applies,
even if you have some verbs
can really use other formulas.
Still, that always applies.
And there are two exceptions,
only two.
And of course these are our favorite verbs
to be and to have,
what we have seen.
So from would be
or would
and from have
would have.
Yes, so you form subjunctive 2
in the present tense.
As you can see, not difficult.
And now we deal
with the past tense,
which is also not difficult.
You just have to listen very concentrated.
We now imagine
that you learned the German language
in your childhood
because you came to Germany.
And then you wrote the following sentence about yourself.
I came to Germany as a child
and learned German very quickly.
This sentence is imperfect.
I hope you already know perfect, yes?
How did we understand that?
Here we have been
and have learned.
This is a completely normal sentence, imperfect.
And now back to reality.
You did not come to Germany as a child.
You are learning German now,
but you can imagine it.
Yes, you can imagine
that you would have come to Germany
in your childhood.
And now let's look at a sentence
that you can imagine
with subjunctive 2.
If I had come to Germany as a child,
I would have learned German very quickly.
This is a sentence in subjunctive 2.
And now let's compare.
The black sentence is again
a real form, so perfect.
Just something real.
We said you actually came to Germany, yes?
The blue sentence is in subjunctive 2.
This is something unreal,
but what you can imagine.
And now let's compare the forms again.
We had a perfect bin,
so from being.
And now we have in subjunctive 2 wäre.
So bin becomes wäre,
that is, sein becomes to be.
Or wäre, yes?
Gekommen remains as you see.
Bin gekommen, wäre gekommen.
Habe becomes to have.
Wiederhaben becomes to have.
And learned remains learned,
so not difficult.
So as you can see,
we have again sein becomes to be,
haben becomes to have.
And so we can again
develop a form
how to form subjunctive 2
in the past.
This is always
wäre or wären
or hätte or hätten
plus the verb in the third form.
So this is usually
with weak verbs
g with g, yes, you know, prefix.
Or with strong verbs,
the third form.
This is subjunctive 2
in the past tense.
And now, finally,
we want to summarize the whole thing together.
So you should understand,
if you're talking about something unreal,
you need subjunctive 2.
And what form of subjunctive 2
you need depends on
whether you're talking about now,
so about the present,
or about sometime,
so about the past.
And now we compare
the forms again.
So if this is your present,
or something
you can imagine now,
is the universal formula
would plus infinitive.
This always applies
except in two exceptions.
Wäre plus null,
because sein becomes to wären,
as we have already seen.
And here you don't need an infinitive anymore,
because in the sentence there is only one verb.
And haben becomes to hätten,
so you need hätte plus null,
that means no verb follows
in this sentence.
If you're talking about the past,
then your formula
would or hätte,
depending on which verb
your verb in the past tense
is already used,
plus the third form of the verb.
Yes, I hope this video
could really help you.
Please also note
that we did not talk about
the modal verbs here.
With denen it is a little different.
Yes?
And now you can be active!
Finally, not just me!
You will now see four sentences
where you just see them
in the indicative.
So that means they are totally real.
And you should use the
unreal sentences.
So use subjunctive 2.
Please note,
first you should
decide whether it is now,
so in the present tense,
or in the past.
So yes,
I wish you good luck.
Click on stop.
Think about
what is where,
which form,
and then come the answers.
I, on my part,
thank you for watching.
I really hope
that this video could help you.
Subjunctive 2 is
not such a difficult topic
as many German learners
do it.
I wish you, as always, a lot of success
in further German learning
and see you next time.
Bye!
