Amy is back as Princess Giselle, reuniting with her Enchanted co-stars Patrick, James Marsden and Idina Menzel.
They're joining Maya and Gabrielle Baldacchino for a new musical fairy tale, Disenchanted.
Congratulations on Disenchanted.
Thank you.
I was a huge fan of the original. Maya, I know that you're also a fan of the original.
I am.
What was it like seeing Amy dressed up as Giselle?
I genuinely was starstruck, even though I knew Amy for years.
But then I got to work one day and Giselle was there in that beautiful blue gown, which is my favorite thing she wears in the whole movie that she's dancing in.
And I got excited like I was talking to a real princess.
There's something about it. It's different. Giselle is real.
I think it was because I had my own relationship with Giselle.
So then I got to talk to her. It was really exciting.
Gabi, what was it like for you to step into this world?
Of course. I was like five or six when the movie came out.
I was too.
How old do all of us feel right now?
I was.
We were five or six.
Yes, same.
Babies. All of us.
Sisters.
It brings out that nostalgia, that younger side in you.
And Amy coming back to Giselle after 15 years.
15 years, I know. It was wonderful.
I know I sounded so Giselle. It was wonderful.
It was wonderful.
It was wonderful. It was so great to get to embody her.
When I walked away from her 15 years ago, I didn't know if I'd ever get to embody her again.
So getting to put her back not only on but in my body was just such a joy to get to feel her spirit again.
She's just very intoxicating for me.
I feel like I sort of get drunk with Giselle's love and joy and spirit.
It was just such a joy.
Do you find yourself using her voice in your life?
Every once in a while I slip into Giselle and I don't mean to.
I sing out the window to my daughter sometimes.
Just believe in yourself.
Did you bring your kids to set?
Well, because of COVID, we did not.
But they came to Ireland.
We were all in Ireland to make the movie, which was pretty incredible.
One day they got to be in it.
They got to be in Monrelasia.
And obviously in the market scene, the dragon fruit scene, she walks by.
If you want to come to set, you've got to dress up, you've got to work for it.
You've got to earn it.
It's the dream.
It's the absolute dream.
This world feels very different.
This time Giselle and her family move to the suburbs.
I wish for a fairytale life.
But a wish gone wrong.
And it's all gone terribly wrong.
Or terribly right.
Turns her into a wicked stepmother.
She makes a wish that the world could be more simple like a fairytale.
And then she realizes that perhaps it's not so simple.
And she learns she has to grow and evolve in order to see her happily ever after.
Which is a lesson that I think all of us can learn from.
I think when I talk about Giselle, my voice goes up.
I noticed that.
I was like, that just happened.
It does. It's because I love her so much.
You love her.
I do love her.
That's palpable.
Complicating it even more, her rival Malvina.
She wants to be the queen bee of the town.
And win the popularity contest.
And is best at, she's the head of the PTA.
And the one who makes the best cupcakes.
And does not want to be challenged.
She used to make the best cupcakes.
Until somebody showed up.
So she does not like that.
And we were lucky to get this one.
It's so amazing.
It's so fun.
It's like every diva, you know, just larger than life.
Ridiculous.
I mean, every behavior is worse than the next.
So to me that's very joyful because it's so funny.
And ridiculous.
Even when we meet her in the real world, she's so great.
So awful.
She just wears workout clothes.
She doesn't work out.
Yeah.
I've never done that.
I really, I don't know, I can't relate to that.
Disenchanted debuts only on Disney Plus Friday.
You're hilarious.
