in
2002 or three shortly after escaping
from China to Australia I was invited to
a forum in Melbourne about Chinese labor
camps organized by a group called The
China Study group the speaker talked
about the labor camp situation but his
information was very
outdated after he finished I approached
him and said I I just came from China
and I know about the camps firsthand
it's not like what you just said as it
turned out a colonist for the financial
review a major newspaper in Australia
was also there he immediately asked to
interview me he ended up writing a
four-page feature about my story then a
radio host from ABC read the article and
invited me to do a radio show during the
Live inter interview I talked about my
experiences including the torture I
endured and mentioned that I was writing
a book it so happened that an editor
from Alan and one of Australia's top
Publishers heard the interview she got
so excited hearing that I was writing a
book that she ran to her supervisor and
said quick we have to get hold of this
book so the ABC host the supervisor
reached out to me and said we heard you
are writing the book have you found a
publisher
yet and that time I was writing in
Chinese hoping to publish it as quickly
as possible but I never thought about an
English version so I replied thank you
but I'm writing it in Chinese and it's
not finished yet to myself surprise they
replied quickly it's doesn't matter if
it's in Chinese you we can have it
translated and if it doesn't matter if
it's unfinished just send us the first
three chapters and we'll have someone
assess it if it looks promising we can
translate it once it's done of course I
was overjoyed I sent the first three
chapters to a lady as request Ed she's a
native English speaker who knows Chinese
well her name is Su Wells she later
became the translator of my book after
reading my book she wrote a very short
report about only two or three pages and
spoke very highly of it so they decided
to publish it it took a year for Sue to
trans to do the translation so the
English version was was thus published
in 2005 a year after the Chinese one
when my Australian friends heard this
they were thrilled for me saying you
didn't just find a publisher you found
the best one in Australia any and nowan
was originally the publisher of The Lord
of the Rings and The later told me that
in their history this was the first time
they had ever signed a book they
couldn't understand that was unfinished
and that they hadn't even read it was
unprecedented and I feel incredibly
lucky that's how I found an English
publisher before I had even finished
writing in Chinese well that's all for
today tell me what you want to to to
know else and I'll do more videos later
