Hi, I'm Sandy Schreck for LBR Educates,
and today we wanna take a look
at creating a Valentine feature
that I'm calling Heart's Desire.
It's created in a hat box.
We have these hat box sets,
and there's three sizes in them.
They come in the black, a gold, and also a silver.
And you can see that they have a custom liner in them,
so they're very easy to use.
And you can see how you can create
like three sizes of features,
so a small, medium, and large, premium.
And so just taking a look at it,
one of the things that we're going to use today
is the heart's roses.
The heart's roses have a heart shape
that forms in the petals.
And so it is a great high petal count rose
that opens up really nice and large,
so you can use it greatly as a focal flower.
Here you can see one of the designs
that I created in the smallest box.
And just featuring one of the heart's roses,
I have two of the burgundy carnations,
one of the burgundy pomponi.
Then to add some visual interest,
I've also created a heart out of lily grass,
and so we're gonna show you how to do that.
Added in a little kangaroo paw
for that kind of tropical feel.
And then here, just reinforce the line
with some of the agonists.
And in the larger version,
you can see additional textural elements.
So we have the green hypericum,
and just come in here,
and then I've also used some of the green hanging amaranthus
to reinforce that heart shape.
But you can see how simply we've added
those different textural pieces.
There I've got two roses in the focal area,
two corns, and two pomponio gerbs,
two stems of the kangaroo paw,
and three of the hypericum.
So let's take a look at creating these designs.
So to create our heart's design in this hat box,
I'm actually starting with the midnight foam
from Smithers Oasis,
and that's a foam that is a black foam,
so that when you use it,
you can kind of, it kind of disappears down in.
So I've just put in about a half a brick,
and then I'm trimming the corners
so that I have it more even with my design.
Then I'm gonna come in and create the heart.
And so I'm just coming in with some lily grass,
coming off of that back corner on both sides,
and so you can see how that comes in.
Then you take it and bring them both forward,
and then we're just going to kind of line up the tips,
and you can kind of look and see
which is one of your longest ones.
And that one, what you're gonna do is take it
and bring it around twice,
and then have it come through that area, that split area,
and then you feed it through that part
that you folded over and pull it down to tie it.
So you could add a little bit of bullion to that
if it feels loose or a little bit of a U-glue dot,
but you can see how that does create
that heart shape initially.
And then rather than do some kind of big old mechanic on it,
I'm just going to use a hypericum
right down at the base there,
and that'll feed and hold that heart right there.
So there you can see how we've created a structure
that creates a heart, and this can be in any kind of design.
But on here, so our next focal flower
is going to be the heart's rose,
and so we want that to come in.
And you do wanna have some visual space
between your armature and the florals,
so we are gonna bring this right down onto the foam.
And so I'm coming in with two roses
and can kind of be two people in love
or whatever story you wanna tell.
And we've got those two coming in
just at different heights,
and then I'm gonna come in
and add a little bit of salal tips.
And so right now, I'm just going to green up
my edge a little bit.
You wanna keep them as long as possible
and on that main stem so that you can push the flowers
through and rather than adding a lot of insertions,
we can just lay that material down
and bring our flowers, the rest of our flowers over the top.
So there you can see I kind of reinforce the shape
with that, and then we're gonna come in
and reinforce the color.
And so on here, I have some burgundy carnations,
and you can see I'm actually coming in
and just splitting the calyx.
That'll allow that carnation to be a little bit showier.
I can push it open.
And so when you see the two roses up on top
and then you see the color reflected down in the design,
kind of the mind thinks more roses.
And so that's a trick that I do a lot of times in my work
and is repeat that color rose, do some basing
with some of these fabulous color carnations that we have.
So by reinforcing the color of the rose with the carnation,
it gives your mind more visual emphasis
that there's more roses than there really is.
For just a form flower and where these flowers
are all more focal flowers,
coming in with an Alstroemeria as a form flower,
but we just wanna make sure we don't interrupt
kind of our heart line.
So bringing that in through there,
and then I have a couple of the pomponi gerbs
that I'm gonna come in with over the top as well.
So you see some of the repetition of twos there,
and then we wanna add a couple more hypericum
that brings that color, that deep color repeated
throughout our composition,
so that it kind of forms that line
and feeds into that heart,
bringing your eye throughout the composition.
I have a couple of green trick dianthus
that I'm just gonna come in
and have them finish off the sides here,
and I'm just poking right through some of my salal leaves.
And lastly, what I'm gonna do is cut up this kangaroo paw
and add some of that in,
and that is adding that neotropical flare,
and you can see here how we can cut it.
So this right here will disappear.
I'm gonna bring that down into the middle here
so that that cut end disappears,
and then bring this coming forward
so that it just follows that visual pathway through.
Then just for a last finishing touch,
we have a little bit of the red-painted seeded eucalyptus,
and you'll see how this adds additional textural
and visual interest into this composition.
So here you can see the whole collection
of the heart's desires.
So we've got your standard, then deluxe, premium,
whatever words that you wanna use to do your upgrades,
but you can see the size variation difference.
Using the same materials,
a little bit different textural mixes
that you can see in a different compositions,
but I hope that you'll bring in these hat boxes
and create some fabulous florals
with them for your customers.
