hello and welcome back to my crafty
Patty Channel and yes I like to be a
little crafty sometimes and in my last
video I was showing you how I did my
little crafty Patty toilet paper roll
machine for
multi strands of yarn hack and if you
didn't see that by all means have a look
at that but in that video I love it how
all of you comment with your wonderful
comments and you have such great ideas
and you
said why aren't you using a yarn Winder
for all your yarn I going well I don't
have
one so I started thinking about it and
all this would be so much easier again
and even so much better so thank you for
your ideas and comments
so I have gone out and bought myself a
yarn Winder to make yarn cakes therefore
the yarn is going to come out of the
center of your ball it's not going to
roll around the table it's nice and neat
and
tidy and so my next project with you is
I'm going to demonstrate this particular
yarn Winder that I got and I'll explain
a little bit more about that in a minute
but as you can see I've got two bins of
yarn and I'm in a mess I don't know if
I'm coming or going I've got different
types of weighted yarn in different
colors all over the place pleas and look
at this mess so we're going to show you
how it we turn
this
into
[Music]
this and as always I will have a link to
the supplies in the description box
below the video and in this booklet it
does have um threading instructions how
to put it all together pretty
straightforward but I will show you as
well so I did do a bit of research
because you can pick up these for the
manual ones but you just use your a
winding method and you do it by hand and
the comments that I found and the
reviews were not the greatest it was
people were having trouble with tension
and they just didn't seem to be working
great so I splurged and went for an
electric yarn Winder now I'm not going
to try to pronounce this word that is
the brand of the electric yarn Winder I
purchased so it was pretty
simple it came with a a little
instruction
booklet and it's come with um a
screwdriver and extra screws and all
you've got is came with three pieces
this and this and the actual main unit
actually four pieces into your
electrical cord so all you have to
do is insert that into the slot use your
screwdriver that's supplied and screw
into this portion that's all there was
for
that and then this part for your yarn
you just match up the little slots
here give it a turn and then that's
ready to go
simple as that and this one can
attach to any table that will allow it
to sit on
there this one is working fine just
tighten that one
up and then as you can see the way
they've designed this is that the hole
for the yarn to go through is off the
table Edge so it's easy to insert your
yarn what they do Supply is similar to
uh cell phone cording is you you just
got found this end that goes into your
Winder and you will need some type of
adapter that you can
insert for your
electrical and the sand just goes into
your Winder over
here and here's your on
switch and you can see it turning
around I haven't inserted any y yet and
then
it will go up as as uh fast as
[Music]
that so let's add some yarn and let's
see how this works let's start with this
one and see what we
get I am going to take it from the
center of the ball rather than the
outside and I'm just going to place it
in a basket on the floor
here and the threading is pretty
straight forward up through that bottom
hole and then here's your first tension
and it just pulls forward like this and
you'll see behind there's a little bar
and the yarn just goes in between like
so then it comes up through that little
guide there and again there's going to
be a little bar right there and you tuck
it in between that bar so it's going
between the two like so and then after
that system out of you can just I'm just
trying to get rid of some of the ex
excess here you can wrap it around the
base here and then there's just two
slits in the top here that you just pull
it through to make sure it stays in
place and then you just turn it
on and as we said before there's our on
switch you can
decide how fast you want to
go and what I like to do also is just
hold my hand here in case you can see
where I've got like a bunch of stuff
happening here I'm just going to clean
that up and make sure that doesn't cause
any problems and then continue
[Music]
on normally what will happen is you'll
see like a bunch of like that it will
untangle itself and then it go through
okay let's see about that one so it's
stilling not too bad but if you end up
with something like this on
your yarn that you're trying to put into
a neat ball then do try to untangle it
because it will just stop obviously you
can't expect it to go through that but
this is why we're making these neat
balls so you don't have to contend with
this while you're working on your
project so as you can see it's not
always foolproof taking your yarn from
the center of a ball because I ended up
with a big rats but I had patience on
doing and no guarantees that there not
going to be another one but that's the
beauty of doing this so you've always
got your cakes ready to go not
free and I'll be so happy when I've got
all of this neat and
tidy so I'm going to continue wrapping
this one ball and then I'll get back to
you with some other types of yarn just
see how they work I'll just show you one
here that's the completed yarn cake from
that one that we had that we had the big
Rat's Nest in and there I've got my
Center ready to go and oh it's just
going to be so much easier so I'm really
glad that I'm doing up all my yarn
cakes so let's try a bulkier yarn and it
does say to skip the first spring so
let's come up here and we're just going
to work on the outside there come back
through the edge here and we will put it
into this spring here and again you have
to just get it into that little slot
there I showed you on the other
one
and we'll just wrap around once and
then bring it into the slots
there okay let's see how we do on this
[Music]
just at the end of the ball here so
we'll just help it along a little bit
[Laughter]
[Music]
[Music]
and no complaints
there that wound up beautifully as well
and that was a thicker
yarn again we can just tuck that end in
and there's the C of our yarn and how
about something like this what will it
do with this bulky yarn but it's kind of
bumpy in some spots than thinner in
others let's see how it does with
that again I think I'm going to bypass
that first spring and we'll just bring
it up
into this
one and let's see how this one does
[Music]
very pleased with that it had no problem
with the different weight and the uh
different thinness and thickness
throughout that
yarn all right I am going to
continue to clean up my mess over
there oh and look at this this just
makes me feel so good I know it's going
to be easy to work with here's all my
worsted yarn all nicely wound in
cakes and then I've got all my bulky
Yarns over here and by all means if
you're worried about losing your labels
you can just roll it up like I've done
here and pop it into the center of your
ball and you have your yarn label if
needed so there you go I'm in heaven
[Music]
and now as you can see I've got nicely
wound cakes for my project still with my
crafty Patty little machine here where I
can use multiple strands of yarn and
look at that I'm so pleased with that
and as you can see I'm still working on
this beautiful baset it's going to be
nice and big and I want to get a little
taller and in the next video coming up I
will be demonstrating on how to make
these baskets so keep your notification
button on and look forward to the next
video coming up bye-bye for now
