The legal tide appears to be turning for the family of Philadelphia teacher Ellen Greenberg and the decade-plus-long fight to change her manner of death ruling.
Greenberg was 27 years old when she was found dead of more than 20 stab wounds inside her locked Manayunk apartment in 2011.
She was discovered by her fiancé on January 26, 2011, inside the couple's locked at the Venice Lofts on the 4600 block of Flat Rock Road.

well we have new developments in the
Ellen Greenberg case today a judge in a
civil suit ruled that there is enough
evidence to go to trial now Greenberg's
family sued several Philadelphia city
officials claiming that the
investigation into the 27-year-old's
death caused them emotional distress the
Manny young teacher was found dead in
2011 from multiple stab wounds her death
ruled a suicide today is 15 years that
Sandy and Josh Greenberg have been
waiting to have the opportunity to go to
court this case is intentional
infliction of emotional distress by the
defendants on Sandy and Josh for
covering up the homicide of their
daughter as a suicide so the medical
examiner report said Greenberg was
stabbed in the head the neck and the
chest her death was first ruled a
suicide then changed to a homicide and
then back to a suicide the family's
attorney Joe Pedraza says the defense
could not give a solid explanation for
the manner of death so when there was no
support for suicide obviously the
inference isw then why is it being
called the suicide there must be other
reasons and we believe part of that
reason is misconduct and just terrible
investigative acts by the Philadelphia
Police
Department so this is one of two cases
that's playing out in court the first
was filed in 2019 and seeks to have
Ellen's manner of death changed from
suicide back to homicide or undetermined
it's now before the the Supreme Court of
Pennsylvania now as for this case jury
selection begins Monday at 9:00 a.m. we
also reached out to the city and the
police department they said they could
not comment on pending litigation but
the trial starts Monday it's gone on in
a long time be nice for them to get some
answers thank you
