WHAT NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT MOVING TO GERMANY🇩🇪 The Joys and Struggles of Expat Life...

[Music] Autumn has always been that Bittersweet yet magical time when Nature puts on its best show the vibrant colors transform our surroundings into a pictures landscape but for me it's also a reminder that the German summer has slipped away and the New Zealand summer is about to start while I mour Summer's end here in Germany there's something exciting about New Beginnings too and I try to embrace every changing season today I'm taking you on a journey through my long weekend in lower Franconia [Music] Germany Saturday morning I found myself feeling a little homesick for New Zealand when I'm feeling like this is always important for me to acknowledge my feelings and let myself dwell in this homesickness for a little while but it's always really important for me to just get up and embrace my life here in Germany and the beauty that surrounds [Music] me so last week I made a big of rocky road as part of my friend's birthday hemper so if you don't know what rocky road is you are missing out basically it's a delicious no baked slice which is made up of milk chocolate and marshmallows wine gums and vanilla biscuits it's an absolute favorite in most Anglo-Saxon countries and each country has their own variation so Rob suggested that making some rocky road for us might help me feel a little bit better and less homesick so we headed to iica to pick up some ingredients Unfortunately they don't have Whitaker's chocolate here in Germany nor do they have pescal marshmallows and wine gums or Griffins vanilla wine biscuits but thankfully I found some really great German Alternatives and I even managed to find some glue free vanilla biscuits which means I get to enjoy the rocky road too not just the [Music] [Music] kids so after chilling the rocky road in the fridge for an hour this is the finished product my family already ate most of it before I had the chance to film but this was what was left and it's safe to say it tasted absolutely delicious and it definitely gave me my kiwi Rocky Road [Music] fix Amelia was staying over at a friend's place this weekend and Rob and I decided to take our boys out to a local playground close to the river and just enjoy some fresh year and quality family time together it's so important for us to slow down sometimes and just enjoy these simple everyday Treasures I really do love my life here in Germany and although I sometimes feel torn between my two homes I never take for granted how lucky I am [Music] [Music] [Music] as we drove home I couldn't help but admire how beautiful The Vineyards look this time of year to end our day we decided to head back to iica and buy a nice leg of New Zealand roast lamb and cook a classic New Zealand style roast lamb dinner we I say Classic Roast dinner I'm talking homemade mint sauce lashings of gravy the only thing that was missing was Kuma which is like a kiwi style sweet potato but that was replaced with delicious seasonal German roast pumpkin what a perfect end to the day and yeah it definitely made me feel better adding these little touches of New Zealand into my German life I love doing this so I have to say I'm pretty complicated my life is a beautiful tapestry woven with threads from different countries and cultures you ever wonder what it's like to feel completely at home in one place while your heart still Longs for another that's my life in a nutshell and I couldn't imagine it any other way [Music]
