Drift vs Drag Battle! ’66 Big Block Nova vs 950hp Corvette

So today's episode is actually one leftover from last year that we didn't run, but it's still a great one. We are on set right now filming another 10 matchups. So every Monday, this versus that. He has to open the hood so you can see him. Yeah, but you know what? Look at the finish around how the hood got opened up. You realize that the seat won't walk out with your zipper half down. Like that's what that is right there. Oh, you're letting them know. From the get go. How big is that motor? 632 cubic inches. Damn! Is this easy to open up? When you got enough cubes. You need to know your competition. That you got to take the filter off to take off the hood. Oh, what's up Matt? What's he doing? He's already working on his car, dude. Damn. What kind of power do you think you're putting out? We still have the restrictor plate on there. So we're going to lose a little horsepower right there. Cause with our bracket racing, we usually use that. Probably about 920. It's still got mufflers on it. We're running mufflers. We drove it here, didn't we? Yeah, we drove it here. It's street legal. License insured. You drove this here. That's sick. What's behind the motor? What kind of trans you got? Turbo 400. It's a full frame? Is it just a subframe? Subframe. Yeah. Four linked in the rear. 20 car cage on the inside. Rack and pinion steering. Still got carpet. Clean interior, man. This is how you make sure no one else drives your car. Is you basically make your pedal the size of your foot. See, you can just make a crop. Just mount it to the thing. It's like a Cinderella thing. Anybody have a key? Just look at that. So, I'm assuming you've put this down the quarter a couple times? Yes. Fastest we've ran it so far is a 952. Well, Matt, you're pretty sized up on this thing. I don't know. What do you think? Let's check out what you've got going on. I don't know much about drag racing, obviously. But I do know that this is looking pretty fast. This is my Pro 1 Formula Drift competition car. This is what I run in competition. This is what I ran last year and that I'm going to be running this year as well. It's an LS. The only thing GM left is the valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket because it's RHS block, Texas Speed Hedge, Texas Speed Cam, you know, crank, all that. Right now, it makes 950 to the wheels. But drift horsepower versus drag horsepower, you know, who can tell? Everything's carbon Kevlar on the exterior except for the roof. The roof is carbon fiber. Oh, man. Okay. Oh, just, just carbon. Is there any balsa wood left in here? So, the floors of a Corvette are actually fiberglass, wood, fiberglass. And the floors are stock. I mean, even back here, it's all carbon, everything. Yeah, we might as well. OCT Composites makes all the carbon Kevlar pieces for HGK, but HGK, Chris Dobbs, a lot of you guys know, they did all the design work on it. God, look at. Look at this. So, we went a little, like, we Swiss cheesed the door hinges because the hinges were literally heavier than the door. But yeah, this is going to be a good test too because I just changed the transmission to a 6XD, which I'm really happy about because it's made in America. Everything on this car, as much as possible, is made in America, except for all the body panels. So, to be able to have a drivetrain and an engine and everything that's built in the U.S., I'm all about it. How much does it weigh? So, I'm pretty stoked about this because I just put on my titanium Borla headers. You can see, look at all those pretty colors in there. Lightweight battery. So, it's 3,050 with me in it. Fully loaded, nitrous, fuel, brand new tires with me. How much does your vehicle weigh? About 3,650 with me in it. And you're about the same power, but you can't argue that his setup is miles better for what we're about to do. A little bit different, yep. But he's got 950 to the wheels. I got like 920 to the crank. But that all being said, these are engineered to go fast while sideways. Yeah. From what we're doing right now, I think I brought the wrong animal here. I think I brought the wrong tool. I don't know. We'll have to see. I don't know. Predictions. I love Matt, but I'm going to go with him. You're going over? Only, I'll tell you why. We asked this guy yesterday to come race. Met him in town. He showed up. No prep. It's the confidence. He didn't even ask when he was racing. He just showed up. It is very hard to look at this Nova and say, that thing's going to get smoked. But I think it's going to happen. Matt's the most competitive dude I've ever met in my life. And he just wants... Based on sheer determination. Just determination, he wants to win. I guess it depends on if I get to do burnouts or not. Yeah, you can burn out. I think I might win one once I figure this whole drag racing thing out. And you? I have to go with the Nova. Say what you want. You've already thought about it. On the spot. I like the Nova. He launched, immediately knew it was wrong. Round one! I couldn't really tell what was going on. I was in a sonic boom. Matt took the jump. Matt jumped, but he also spun a shit ton. Nova by three car lengths. Nova by three. That's big. You're definitely catching him at the end. You've just got to keep the wheel speed down at the beginning. We're just doing another hit? Yeah. It was so much so that the guy in the Nova was like, am I going when you just start moving your hands or when they're at the bottom? I'll tell you, I think he should go on Matt. Give Matt the jump. But I will say, you've been jumping a little bit on the last two, and he's chased and still ran you down. No. Do you have launch control on yours? No launch control.
