hey guys
getting ready to start a new project
here
one of the
many additions that are coming to the
channel this is my new kayak trailer
uh
assemble it yourself it's all aluminum
so i think that's going to help out on
the rust my old trailer
you can see
there's parts rusting
all over on there a lot of the frames
galvanized steel but even that's showing
some rust so
i'm gonna get started on getting this
thing together and let you guys see how
it goes all right no paperwork it was
all lost so we're just gonna have to
it's not a big deal do it off the ipad
all right getting started got a ton of
bolts to put together so
i gotta get all these joints put
together and uh
once i get all those bolted together
i'll uh come back and show you where
we're at
[Music]
all right guys
that's it for today i'm gonna uh do all
the wiring tomorrow i'll uh see you guys
tomorrow morning
okay so i went to lowe's this morning
and picked up all the supplies
some pressure treated two by fours and
two by sixes pvc and all the hardware
so now that i have everything that i
need i can get started on customizing
this trailer and turning it into a rust
proof kayak trailer
all right you can see what i'm doing
here i'm attaching
these cross pieces
uh that are going to be the anchor
points for the runners that are gonna
run down and hold the pvc for each kayak
so
there'll be
a runner here here here and here
and i'm just using pressure treated two
by fours
and
stainless steel
uh hex bolts and
hardware so won't rust so we're gonna
get the bolts on these and tighten them
down and then i'll give you a look at it
uh when i'm done
see i countersunk them so they wouldn't
stick up when i put the runners on in
case that's where runner's gonna be
won't be in the way so
that's where i'm at now next is getting
started on the runners
[Music]
once all the runners are cut then i've
got to position them on the trailer to
make sure they will fit snug under the
kayak and hold it in place
so once placement is verified then i
attach them with some deck screws and
then get started on attaching the pvc to
the two by sixes
i've got the
runners for the hobie set they're spaced
just right so it'll slide right in there
i did put in the eye bolts here
i'm getting a
boat transom
ratchets
that'll mount onto the frame
of the trailer
right there so i don't have to mess with
winding straps or any of that it'll
mount right there in this hole and then
come over hook there
and the ratchet will be right here pull
it tight
same thing
up here
so i can't do the other side until i get
my new kayak in
and i make sure the size is exactly
right all right good morning the trailer
build is complete
and i'm gonna show you
the finished product and what all that
i've done
okay last you saw it i just had this
side done but i had to wait because you
put these runners to where they fit
right into the
groove here on your hole
so it'll hold your kayak tight and you
won't have like one single pressure
point if that you would if you went like
straight across with supports
you can see i used the lag bolts i don't
know if you can even see it might be too
dark down in there
and stain everything stainless steel
i got the ratchets
from bass pro shop you see here it's
nice because
the previous trailer i was always having
to tie down the straps after i'd ratchet
it down so now these just
retract oop there we go
hook it and then when you're done
they just suck right back in you don't
have to worry about it
but you can see the old town
sits perfectly in there
i you don't have to over tighten the
straps they're just kind of tight but
there's no there's no play at all so i
feel really confident that the trailer
is going to hold everything just fine
wiring lighting all that's done and
checked so everything on here is either
pressure treated wood pvc
or aluminum and stainless steel hardware
so we should be
free of having to worry about any more
rust
so i hope you guys
enjoyed the
video um if you have any questions leave
them in the comments
i'll uh answer everything
so i'm gonna get this out we're gonna go
fishing so tight lines everybody see you
on the next one
