Who's stronger, climbers or marines?
On one side you have elite soldiers, built for combat,
strong, disciplined, and trained to push through anything.
On the other side you have us, climbers.
Lightweight, flexible, crazy strong fingers,
and also pretty strong in general, compared to our size.
Two totally different worlds, but today we're stepping into theirs.
We're going head to head in some brutal challenges to find out who's stronger,
climbers or marines.
For the first event, we have Magnus.
Marines, we have Blaze.
They're gonna be doing L-sit.
Let's go.
What do you guys think?
L-sit?
I think I'm glad you're doing this one.
Yeah, but yeah, the other guy looks super strong.
Blaze.
Oh yeah.
The only thing I'm not sure of is if he's gonna take his boots off.
Oh, that's a big difference.
Are you taking your shoes off?
Yeah.
It's painful, you know, you just want to give up.
I mean, I think you got this, you know what I'm saying?
It's gonna probably be a challenge.
You know, they're rock climbers, so it might be a challenge.
But, you know, we're marines, so, you know,
if you feel like you can't do one more, just continue doing that one more.
You got this, bro.
You got this.
So when I say go, you're gonna jump up, bring your legs up, and your time will start.
Ready?
Jump.
Begin.
That's rugby socks.
Perfect form.
You got it, Blaze.
You got to do it.
Nice, Magnus.
Magnus has an advantage here because he's not swinging.
You got it.
The other guy looks so strong though.
Our marine friend is exerting more energy because he's slightly swinging.
Oh, he's shaking.
30 seconds.
Come on, Magnus.
Rock it, Blaze.
Hold it, Blaze.
Clear your mind.
Let's go, Magnus.
40 seconds.
You got to get it up.
Time.
Oh, nice.
44 seconds.
So strong.
Good job.
Thank you.
You had a little bit harder than me because your boots were on.
I even took off my running shoes.
Oh, yeah, I see.
I should have taken these off.
Yeah, I think so.
Next, we have Jason.
Marines, we have Sergeant Simpson.
The exercise is plank.
You guys ready?
You got this, man.
Ready.
Okay, exciting.
I think you want shoes for this, though.
Yes.
I think he's a little bit nervous.
Have you done plank before, Jason?
A few times.
A few times, okay.
If you lose...
Oh my goodness, I got you.
I got you.
If you lose, you're going to kick the other Marine Corps.
I'm going to lock in.
I got this.
All right, you're going to either have your pinky down or your palm down.
And you're going to keep the back of your head, your scapula, your butt,
and your heels in a straight line.
You're not going to drop your knee on the deck.
You cannot bring your elbow up.
You cannot sag your hips too low or bring your hips too high.
Good?
Sounds good.
You got this, man.
All right.
How does your shoes feel for the grass, I mean?
Is the friction good?
Yeah, I think so.
Jason doesn't even use chalk while climbing, so he's not too...
Worried about friction.
Yeah, you got this, man.
Just remember to breathe.
That's the important thing.
In through your nose and out through your mouth.
All right, ready?
On the deck.
So when I say begin, you're going to come up.
Ready?
Begin.
Hips down, Jason.
You got this, man.
Just think of something else.
15 seconds.
He's so still.
You got it, Jason.
Yeah, you got it, man.
Oh, I'm so glad I'm not doing this one.
How long do you think you would do it?
Maybe like a minute and a half.
No joke, no joke.
Nice, Jason.
Keep breathing.
One minute.
You got that.
So locked in.
But Jason is too, though.
This is impressive.
One minute, 15 seconds.
Come on, Jason.
I don't even know if we should just be quiet or if we should...
I don't know, man.
Give it like 15 more seconds.
10 minutes.
He's shaking, Jason.
You got it.
Come on.
He's just as tired as you are.
Two minute, 30 seconds.
Doing great.
Come on, man.
This is amazing, Jason.
Come on.
Two minute, 45 seconds.
Now it starts.
You're doing so good, dude.
Come on.
Does he got proper form?
Jason is down.
Oh my god.
Two minute, 55 seconds.
That was good, though.
Good try.
Good try, Jason.
That is hard.
These guys do this for a living.
It's a very good job, Jason.
Incredible, man.
Dude, good job.
Good job, dude.
Thanks.
Time's still going.
Cool.
Oh, he's still going.
All right.
We go for five minutes or what?
Good job, guys.
Jason, that was impressive.
That was good, right?
Dude, he was trying hard.
He started shaking early, but kept going the whole time.
Strong.
Strong head.
Yeah, mental.
There's a lot of mental.
That's good.
You had like the perfect form throughout.
You were like so straight and you didn't move.
No shake, nothing.
Yeah, correct.
Yeah, that's crazy.
Good on me.
Good on the rock climber.
Thank you, man.
Appreciate it.
Yeah, no problem, man.
You got to climb rock, man.
Move on to the next event.
Do you feel tired at all after that planche?
No, like I said, I mean, I can do that all day.
That's nothing to me.
Yeah, that's nothing to me.
Next, we have Magnus.
Ken.
We have Sergeant Harley.
The event is push-ups.
Oh, God.
Oh, nice.
Yes.
Oh, man.
You got this, Magnus.
All right.
Look at this guy.
Look at that.
Oh, man.
I'm not sure about that.
He goes down, he goes down, he comes up.
We have to look at each other.
Yeah, it makes it a little bit harder.
I need one from this team.
One with big fists.
One from this team.
So you're going to have a fist with the Marine,
and I need a Marine, Marine.
Oh, then small fist.
I need one of you guys to have a fist for Magnus.
Ready?
Go.
Just like that.
Nice, Magnus.
Lots of power.
Make sure your chest touches the face.
Come on, Magnus.
Lock in.
Nice, Magnus.
Come on.
You got it.
You got this.
Yeah.
Keep going, guys.
Come on, Magnus.
It's going to be 15 reps.
Let's go, Magnus.
Come on.
Nice, Magnus.
All day.
Oh, yeah.
This is where we dig.
Dig deep, dig deep, dig deep.
Dig deep.
Flip straight.
Keep your back straight.
Come on.
Dig through it, dig through it.
Nice.
Come on, dude.
You got it.
Let's go, Magnus.
Let's go.
I did one.
You set your own pace.
The pace is up to you.
Come on.
Drive.
Come on.
Nice, Magnus.
Oh, no.
I was really tired there.
That was intense.
I thought I was going to lose.
In the beginning, you were so strong.
Nice job, Magnus.
Thank you.
Oh, the grass is wet.
I was struggling.
I thought you were going to win.
After the push-up, the score is two to one.
Moving on to the next thing.
Nice.
Good job, Magnus.
I'm getting nervous.
I haven't gone yet.
Let's hope we can hold the lead.
Pretty sure you're up next, though.
Yeah, I think I'm going next.
Oh, boy.
What are you hoping for?
I don't know.
I think it's going to be some sort of pulling or running.
So I'm like...
Hoping for climbing, I guess.
Yeah, hoping for something like climbing.
Dead hangs or something like that.
Yeah, maybe a hang would be good to start the day off.
You guys are rock climbers.
They got more momentum.
You know what I'm saying?
I would say just clear our minds out.
You know what I'm saying?
Don't get in their heads.
Don't let them get in there.
One thing I noticed is if we look like we're not struggling, it brings them down.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Because if you've seen the push-ups, he was struggling.
As soon as he saw you start to actually struggle, then you get in like that.
For the next event, give me Max.
Give me a landscape of Blaze.
You guys know what I'm about to do?
No.
Dead hangs.
You can still alternate a little bit.
All right, we got you ready?
Max, you ready?
Yeah.
Blaze, you good?
Ready, set, jump.
Time started.
Stay tight.
Stay tight, brother.
Try in that corner.
Stay at the black.
Go somewhere else.
Think about your happy state.
Don't think about it.
Stay locked in.
What do you think?
It looks pretty equal so far.
Just breathe and stay calm.
Stay calm.
Remember to breathe.
That's important.
30 seconds.
My heart's racing.
I think this is going to be pretty tight, to be honest.
Because the other guy has done calisthenics.
Yeah.
And he's also relatively light.
He still has his boots on, though.
I don't think they're allowed to take them off.
That's a huge advantage for us.
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
I'm starting to struggle.
I can see it in his face.
You did it, man.
You're good.
You got this, Max.
Come on.
Yeah, he's slipping.
I can see it.
Just stay locked in.
You're both struggling.
So just, now it starts.
Don't listen to him.
Now it's all mental.
1 minute 30 seconds.
Don't put that thought in your mind.
He's adjusting.
He's struggling.
He's wincing.
He's getting everything he's got.
Come on, you got this, man.
Easy.
My arms are numbing.
You got this.
Just focus and breathe.
Oh, God.
Last adjustment, Max.
No more adjustment.
He's adjusting, see?
Come on, you got this.
Come on, it's only pain.
Two minutes.
Not to be a cliche, but it's temporary.
Oh, he's almost, he's falling.
His thumbs are off.
He's almost falling.
You got this, Max.
A few more seconds.
He's almost falling.
Ah, he's so close.
Oh, man.
Dude, it's so early.
I was completely numbed out.
Oh, my God.
That was brutal.
I'm so numb.
After that hang, the score is three to one.
For the next event, give me Jason.
Give me Sergeant Harley.
We're doing pull-ups.
Ooh, you got this, man.
You got this.
Jason, you got this.
You're going to be good.
All right.
All right, so for the pull-ups, when I say begin,
you're going to pull.
Make sure your chin clear the bar,
and then you're going to come down.
Make sure your foot is locked out, right?
So it looks like this.
You're going to come up and then foot locked out.
Just like so.
You're not going to kick or skip or bicycle.
That would not count as a pull-up.
To make it exciting, you guys are going to do pistons, right?
So if Jason begin, this is going to go up and down.
When he comes down, you go up and down.
Just like so.
Up and down.
You're going to take off the flip-flops when you...
What are you going to do with them?
I will do with them.
Give some more power.
To look cool.
You good?
Begin.
That's too high.
Keep your chin up, too.
Seems to go an inch lower, probably.
You look too perfect for him.
Come on, Jason.
Nice, Jason.
Come on.
Come on, man.
Come on, Jason.
Nice, breathe.
Come on.
You got it.
You got a few more.
Come on, Jason.
Nice.
Good job, bro.
That was strong.
You had like the perfect pull-up, too.
I wish I had on the push-ups, but I got the pull-ups.
So we came in close.
Came in close.
After the pull-up event, it's now three to two.
Going on to the next event.
Give me Max.
Give me Sergeant Simpson.
It's going to be a lot.
You're doing a run.
You guys ready?
All right.
So we're going to run around and come back here.
Whoever comes back to the starting position,
the starting point first, wins.
Good?
I haven't ran since high school, so.
Oh, but you have ran in high school.
I ran a little in high school.
And you're also tall, so you have long legs.
Yeah, I've been trying to run like once every two weeks or so, about a mile.
So I'm hoping I'm in good shape for this.
Yeah.
Okay.
That's very good.
Yeah, my money would be on you.
Oh, yeah.
Especially the running shoes.
Yeah, running shoes, one mile.
Gentlemen, it's going to be ready, set.
You got this, Max.
And go.
We got it.
And they locked in.
They didn't even respond to me.
All right, cool.
Ready, set, go.
All right.
I think they're both saving power for the last sprint, the finish.
I've been watching Nick Simmons' videos, you know?
Side by side, yeah.
Accelerate it.
Side by side.
Oh, Max just did it.
Oh, no.
Come on, Max.
Okay, okay, okay.
You feel like stand on legs?
Yeah.
This is interesting.
Come on, Max.
Oh, they both look slower now.
Easy day, easy day.
Come on, Max.
Kick.
45 seconds.
Sprint.
Nice.
Come on, Max.
Let's go.
Yeah.
Come on, Max.
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
Easy, easy.
Let's go, let's go, let's go.
Let's go, Max.
55.
Yeah.
56.
Let's go.
Oh, that was close.
Whoa, that was close.
Damn, that was nice.
Good show, man.
Dude, you did better than I imagined.
Dude, his move was too good.
That was fire.
Oh, wow.
Jeez, that was so close.
That was so close.
Nice move at the end there.
Nice move, yeah.
I had you.
You had me, man.
I tried to get back to you.
So my ability was to see how you was going to run, because I ran a track in cross country.
So usually, I let my opponents go in front of me.
I see their technique.
Usually, some go slower.
Some, this takes off.
I would let you take off to see what you were going to do.
Then when I got right here, I was like, OK, he's going to start speeding up.
I'm going to start speeding up a little bit.
Then I started seeing you start speeding up and getting tired.
So I was like, all right, he's getting tired.
I'm going to gas out.
And just went for the full sprint.
That was impressive, especially in the boots.
I appreciate it.
Appreciate it.
3-3, right?
3-3.
I need a tiebreaker.
I got a surprise for you.
You guys ready for it or what?
Yeah.
Because 3-3.
After the run, it's now evenly split.
3-3.
We're going to have to have a tiebreaker.
You're going to the old course.
That's the obstacle course.
Oh, no.
I'm so gassed.
For the tie, it's going to be an old course relay.
We're going to have Magnus and Max.
And I need Lance Corporal Blaze and Sergeant Harley.
They're going to be going through the old course.
So first, Magnus, you're going to go against Harley.
You're going to go all the way through the old course.
Climb the rope, come back, and then you're going to touch Max.
And then Max is going to conduct the same thing.
Same goes to you.
You're going to climb the rope, run back, touch Blaze.
And Blaze is going to run through.
Whoever comes back first wins.
You guys ready?
Yeah.
All right, let's do it.
Have you done the old course before?
Never.
I've never seen this.
He's yet to set this one up.
It looks tough.
This looks really hard.
Oh, this is going to be hard in the heat.
How many times do you think you've done this?
At least 30.
30?
Ready, set, go!
Nice, let's go, Magnus.
Oh, they're so fast.
Oh, man.
No.
Come on, Magnus.
All right, good luck, dude.
You're so fast on that damn rope.
Let's go, Max.
Must be all that pro climbing.
Must get you in shape or something.
You're super fast throughout everything else, though.
Nice!
Whoa.
He's just blazing.
Come on, Blaze!
Yeah!
No!
Oh, he's got to spin back.
You got it, man!
Oh, man.
That was like a second.
That's the best old course video I've ever seen.
That was really good.
Nice job, guys.
Amazing.
That was so close.
That's the best old course competition I have ever seen.
That's the end of the competition.
Old course is over.
Best old course competition I have ever seen.
The winner is the Marine team.
Good stuff, brother.
Good job, guys.
Good job, good job, good job, good job.
It was awesome.
Good work, guys.
You're doing great out there.
Good work, good work.
And thank you guys so much for watching.
Make sure that you check out this guy on YouTube.
And I will see you next time.
See you.
Damn, that adrenaline was hot.
He was like neck to neck, neck to neck.
Yeah, that was so close.
And yours was like...
Yeah.
You were moving really fast.
Yeah, you were moving really fast.
Yeah.
