HELLUU GUYS!! It's Karin, welcome to the 17th video of my trip! 🎒
Annndd I'm finally back in Malang!! Was very heartwarming reuniting with my host dad and seeing some familiar faces around :D They were all soo incredibly kind to me SOB
Although I didn't stay with them for the whole time because of shower issues .. (apparently no one's lived in that room since 2020 when I was there so it does make sense that it was QUITE different from when I was there!) I visited them almost every day and they took me on trips to Bromo and Batu YAY
Bromo sunrise does require quite a lot of energy since you don't get sleep, especially for the last volcano walk and stair combo ... so be ready! But seriously the highlight of my trip!!
Is it in the background? I don't know what's happening.
Southeast Asia travels episode, Malang, Indonesia.
Back in 2020, like February, right before the pandemic, I came here. I did like a volunteer
program here in Malang and I homestayed here for two months and now I'm back in my old room.
But like I used to live with three other people, so it feels kind of lonely, low-key.
And it's just like, you know, four beds. But I don't remember there being a gigantic hole there
and there, which is a little concerning. But I mean, honestly, it's fine as an
accommodation. It's just like a hostel. And it's actually like an English school
and they have like a bunch of kids living here, like in the dorm.
It's like jelly, but it looks like Easter eggs. Is it for me?
Really? But I have so much food.
So this is like an English school and one of the programs is like ending today,
so they have like a farewell party. And I was invited, so I'm just gonna like go.
Okay guys, it's 10 p.m. and the ceremony ended. It was actually pretty entertaining
and interesting. It was like kind of like a high school vibe, you know?
And like groups like, you know, making skits and stuff and it was pretty fun.
They seemed to be having a lot of fun, so that was nice. But yeah, they were like welcoming me so
much and like it's... I feel grateful, but it's like really embarrassing because every time they're
like, oh like, welcome Miss Karin, welcome Miss Karin. And then like at the end, they asked me to
give a speech. And then you saw how formal like they were all dressed and stuff, right? At the
end, they took a picture and asked me to be in the middle of the picture with my t-shirt and cargos.
They had a whole dress code. I didn't even know. I was like, I am so ruining this, isn't it?
But yeah, I think I'll just shower and go to sleep now. Guys, we have a problem. The problem
is the shower that I just took. Like guys, first of all, I knew they didn't have hot water,
but I don't remember it being this cold. And also, we turn it on and it's like
five strands of like water. I can't wash my hair with that water. Like, it's gonna take me like
hours and then I'm gonna freeze while I do that. So I think I'm... this is my first and last night
here. So I'm gonna go for a mini walk around the neighborhood and be like,
oh, I used to go here. I used to go here and stuff. Yeah, it's just the bathroom. That's my bin.
You can't flush, so. And the drain's there and I have to like physically be really close to the
bowl to brush my teeth.
The weather is so nice. Yeah. Oh, I'm gonna put that in.
Do I take this all out or just do it one by one?
You can put it out. Okay, I'll just do that. Can you? Yes, so much. It looks so good.
Looks good, yeah.
This whole tower is so cool. The godly AC, high ceilings, big mirror, and then like a desk space.
Two towers, two waters, and then it's like a little...
Wow, and it's like a queen bed. Tomorrow I'm going to a mountain, Bromero, which is like the main
attraction here. I've been there once. So everyone who goes to Bromero leaves at like 12am and then
we watch the sunrise and it's really magical. The last time I went, it was like cloudy and I saw
absolutely nothing for sunrise, so that was sad. So I'm really looking forward to it. So tomorrow
I'm gonna like be really still and not use any energy. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Hi, I woke up at 12. It's like 3pm right now and I did...
I did washing, drying, and everything I'm wearing right now is so clean. Even my hat,
I feel so clean and I'm happy because I really wanted to do my laundry for a long time.
I'm gonna go have lunch at a Chinese place nearby that I found on Google Maps.
So this place is like gigantic. My room's there, but it's like a bunk bed situation.
So if you look at that, it's the opposite to my room. My room, my bed would be up there,
but here it's like down there. So it's like kind of, it's pretty smart. There's just rooms
everywhere like that and it's weird because I never see anyone. It feels really empty. That's
the bathroom and I've never seen anyone in here. Look at how clean it is and it's just,
you know, it's automatic. Oh, it's not working. Look at how clean it is and the toilet's so clean.
I'm so happy with this place. So that's my place. It's like Japan themed and the laundry's right
here, which is really good. I'm almost there. I had to cross that like main road, which was pretty
chaotic. Okay, this is it. And there's like a picture on Google Maps that I want to eat,
so I'm going to show them that one. It's so hot. Oh my goodness, it looks so good.
How can they look so good? My gosh, it is amazing. I cannot wait.
My gosh, it's perfect. Everything is perfect. Exactly what I needed right now.
I just got a mini yogurt drink to drink now. It's 10 p.m. right now. No, almost 11 and I have
to leave like right now. Okay, heading out. It's going to be super cold up the mountain,
so I packed like a jacket and water and everything. I'm just going to get
breakfast from the convenience store next door and then I'll head out and yeah.
Okay, guys, newsflash. I don't even know why I thought it would be open. It's not
open. Convenience store is closed, so no breakfast. I rode a bike for like 30 minutes and now I'm at
my first day. So they're going to take me from here. We're all going to go together with like
15 students and they're taking me with them. I thought I'd show you what it's like.
That's what it's like here. It's really cold. Wow, it's so crowded.
Yeah, that was tiring.
So crazy.
Is it in the background? I don't know what to say.
So pretty right now. The sunrise. The sun has risen and it's all pink.
We're heading down. It's so much easier to walk down when it's bright. It was so dark.
Your phone is stable, different with my phone.
We were up there and we came down and now everyone is taking photos.
Is it a dream?
Isn't it crazy how green it is? Like look at that. It's like a dream.
Walking to the crater but it's really far away. It's so far.
It's so steep and also it's really sandy so it just slips.
The view is amazing though. Oh my gosh, but we have those stairs left.
Oh my gosh, I'm so scared for those stairs. I am not trained for this.
I see stairs. Oh no. They have these little like resting pods. I think I'm halfway.
I made it. It's crazy. Oh my gosh. I don't know if you guys can tell but it's gigantic
and the rumbles like echo. How scary is that? I can just like fall there
and it's so narrow the path. Oh my golly. It's so scary because my legs are like shaking from
the stairs. Look at where I am guys. Insane. I'm just like on a cliff between the crater
and it's insane. I'm so scared. This is so scary. Oh my gosh. Goodness gracious me.
Oh my gosh. Oh I didn't know it's closed. Four years ago that was open and we could just like
go up. This is earth guys. This is earth. Ready to go down these stairs again.
Do you see how steep it is? It's like 300 steps. Anyways, bye view. Okay.
So I'm going on a horse the way back.
Okay.
Oh my god. I'm on a horse. Oh my gosh.
It's my first horse ride ever.
It's not as comfortable as I thought it would be.
It's a unicorn. The views are amazing.
Bye horsey. Thank you so much. Everything here is so far away. Like look at this
vast space. I've never seen so much space before.
Let's just be in your city girl. My butt hurts. Like my tailbone. I think it was like,
I don't know. I lowkey think I have like a scar now. So I'm gonna have to check that later.
I feel so disgusting. I feel like sand in my hair, on my face, like in my socks. It's everywhere.
Hey guys. So good morning. I slept at like 5 p.m yesterday and I woke up at 7 a.m today. But now
it's 2 p.m. I was just doing nothing. And now I'm going to go to a famous bakso place that's like
um a liquid dish in Milan. It's really famous for bakso and it's basically like meatballs
in soup. But there's this really famous place called Bakso President that's like a five minute
walk from here. It has like 21,000 reviews and it's like a 4.1 or whatever. Okay might be wrong
but it's got tons of reviews and it's like a 4 point something. So I ride from that side and
they're like okay just walk across and I just walked across. But I'm here. It's right next to
the train rails and they've got like awards and stuff. You can see how big and popular this place
is. And then that's the menu. It's here. I got like the five meatballs and a grilled meatball
and orange juice. And that's my view. I don't think the trains are coming anytime soon. Everyone's
just crossing. Okay so like on the google reviews a lot of the reviews were saying that it's like
really overpriced. And I was like I mean like it might be a little expensive compared to like the
other places but it like it can't be that expensive. But they told me 61k. That's like 600 yen
which is like I don't know four dollars five dollars USD. And I was like what for like this
and this? So yes it is pretty expensive because you can get this for like 50 cents or something
at another shop or a dollar. Well my orange juice tastes good. Okay taste test time.
I've had bakso before but it's like this feels chewy or it kind of bounces back.
Okay I'm gonna try the grilled one. I didn't know they had like grilled bakso
until I looked this place up. Apparently it exists.
It's really chewy. It's actually pretty good. I don't know what's so different about it. I think
they put it in something different or it's just fundamentally different. But it's good.
I like this one. But the soup is more average I would say. But I guess half of it's like for the
view because it's unique. Yeah but now I'll head back. I'm still a little hungry which is pretty
bad but yeah. I thought there'd be like something else in the noodles. Not the noodles. Like noodles
with the meatballs but it was just meatballs. So I'm just gonna walk here which is crazy.
So I'm back in my room now. I got my daily yogurt and lemon water from the convenience store
and I wanted to talk to you about something really happened that happened to me yesterday.
You know how I was riding a horse yesterday? A unicorn at the mountains? Well you know no one
told me this but horses are very uncomfortable. I thought I was gonna fall off the whole time
especially when they were going down. Like going up is fine because it's just like you know hold
on but going down it's like it's so unstable and I was like oh my gosh I should have just walked.
Yeah I was on the horse and I was like oh my gosh this is so uncomfortable and then the seat
didn't like fit my butt right or something. I don't know but something was like really rubbing
like my tailbone and I was like oh my god this kind of really hurts and I didn't think much
of it but then when I was done like when I got off the horse it it was like really hurting
and then I was like oh my god this could be pretty bad and then I went to like the bathroom and then
like checked what was going on. There was like a wound on like my tailbone a wound and I was like
oh no and now my butt's like well not my butt my tailbone's like bleeding and it really sucks.
So I had to get like a band-aid from the pharmacy. I was freaked out because they said like 40 and
I was like wait 40 like four dollars for like band-aids and I was like okay but then it was 40
cents um in Canadian not USD uh so that was fun but now yeah my butt or my tailbone really hurts
and I can't like well I can sit on a chair because honestly sitting isn't that much of a problem.
It's more when I'm like sleeping and I like lie on my back it really hurts which is pretty funny
I think but anyways yeah I have a wound on my butt which is unexpected from a unicorn that I was
riding on a volcano. Ah fun times. Today is my last day in Milan and my friends I don't know if
I should call them my I mean they're my friends but like the people who are like assigned to take
care of me by my horse dad it's like one of the teachers that but but like they're the same age
and stuff so it's like just my friends but um they're gonna take me to Batu which is like a city
next to Milan. The view is like really nice so we're gonna go there like 4 p.m and like see the
view and then get dinner and then just go home. In the morning I was telling her I was like sorry
um I injured my butt I don't think I can be on a motorcycle for like an hour and then they're
like oh I understand but then I was like wait hold up maybe it's fine if I'm like sitting but enough
yeah it's a little garden
oh my god
7 53 I'm leaving bye I'm so tired I'm so sleepy
the entrance
lion air I'm like two hours early but that's all right look at how nice that is
so bright
