Springfield Technical Community College held a graduation ceremony for those in the Springfield Adult Learning Center.
This milestone event honors the hard work and perseverance of more than 80 students.
22 News reporter Kaylee Thomas joins us live in studio to share why this clash will go down in history.
Nick, as graduates received their certificates, they proved it's never too late to get an education and achieve your dreams.
With proud smiles on their faces, STCC's Adult Learning Center graduates walked across the stage to receive their well-earned high school equivalency certificates.
It feels surreal to me because it's been quite a while since I was originally supposed to graduate and it had me feeling defeated for a while.
So for me to walk across that stage today means a lot.
To receive these certificates, each graduate went through the center's free classes and passed either GED or high side exams.
This is the largest graduating class in recent history.
More than 80 students are being celebrated for their hard work and dedication.
For many, in order to continue their education, this meant overcoming significant challenges and obstacles.
Sometimes we fall and we stumble and we meet a lot of disappointments on the way.
It doesn't mean that you have to really give up, just pick yourself up.
This accomplishment is set to open doors for them in terms of job opportunities and further education.
We have students who have completed the high GED prep program, who have transitioned to other workforce training programs with us.
One of the students in the graduating class today just completed the phlebotomy technician course.
Franco says she is thrilled to see these graduates take the next steps to pursue their personal and career goals or even get a college degree.
She adds these graduates also serve as role models for others in the community looking to prepare themselves for a high set or GED.
Working for you, Kaylee Thomas, 22 News.
