Was this just a friendship... or something more?
In this video, me and Ann open up about some of the early stuff that happened between us — the flowers, the phone calls, and a few things that caught both of us off guard. I didn’t realize at the time how much wasn’t being said… and we talk through it all here, including what her sisters didn’t know and something her dad brought up that I definitely wasn’t expecting.
This one gets a little real. Hope y’all enjoy the conversation.
Even if you do smell like an old granny, I would still love you.
I would still love you.
So like, that's not.
Today's video is, does he just want to be friends?
So we left off in last week's video with a little bit of a cliffhanger.
Anne was living 700 miles away from me.
For our second phone conversation, we were actually going to be, did we see each other?
I think the second one we did.
I think so.
No way, I think we did.
We did.
I think I remember the same, I remember the t-shirt I wore on that day.
I talked to you on a Tuesday.
Yep.
Wednesday went by.
Thursday was the day.
Thursday rolls around.
So, but on Wednesday evening, I was working out and I was like, I got to get this girl
something for tomorrow.
I was like, well, it'd be great to get her flowers, but she lives in the middle of nowhere,
you know, or at least that's what she says she does.
So I went ahead and I started looking around and the biggest city that was like close to
her that had some flower shops in it was like probably like half an hour away or so.
I was like, well, let me go and check them out and see if they do delivery.
Today's video is brought to you by Native, our family's farm shop.
Yeah.
And we have honey, coffee, and tea, and it is absolutely incredible.
We absolutely redid our whole entire coffee line and it is the best coffee that you will
ever taste.
It is incredible.
We got all types on there.
Even decaf.
Yeah.
We got decaf.
We got whole bean and we got ground.
Yeah.
In all types of different flavors, 100% organic.
There's no nasty additives.
No.
In all of your flavored coffees, propane glycol, I'm pretty sure that's how you say it, is
in there.
And the honey comes in a whole bunch of different sizes.
Whole different types of sizes.
Five pounds.
One pounds.
Two pounds.
Yeah.
And we got.
Creamed honey.
Creamed.
Oh, the creamed honey, y'all.
That's where it's at.
Pecan honey.
Yeah.
Super, super good.
In all types of different teas.
So go check it out.
We love y'all.
And that is the best way to support our channel.
All right.
We'll let y'all get back to the rest of the video.
So the first one that I clicked on, they did.
It was expensive.
It was like $48 to get it delivered.
But I'm like, I do not care if it was like $65 or $80, I would have still done it because
I was like, and it said it could get them there by tomorrow.
And I was like, this is going to be perfect timing because I was like, this would be great
if she would get them either like a little bit before the conversation or right as we're
having the conversation, you know, or even right after that's fine too.
Ordered them up.
It was pretty fun because they had a bunch of different things to choose from.
So I picked a springtime, summertime themed one.
And they also write a little hand written note to the person that you're sending it
to and I will read it to y'all.
So I said, Dear Miss Anne, a young Christian lady like yourself needs some flowers in her
life.
I hope they will brighten your day.
Matt.
That's so sweet.
That is so sweet.
Now I ordered them and they were on the way.
Now go ahead and tell your story.
We decided mom, dad and I, I'd have one phone call with Matt.
And we decided that we should kind of just keep it like a little bit of like hush hush,
you know, just from anybody just to like, you know, make sure it was like all gonna
work out good.
Like we weren't gonna, I wasn't gonna be ghosted or catfished or anything like that.
Siblings knew, like my siblings that were still in the house, I mean I'm third in line
so I have four younger siblings.
And so we were going to go on like a girl's like shopping spree with my older sister and
then my niece too, she's like three.
So we were on this shopping spree and I get this call and of course I don't answer it
because I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the phone number.
So then I get this text.
I'm like getting this text as we were like getting into the car because we had just been
eating and my sister, the whole time, my older sister, she didn't know what was going on.
She was like bugging me for like, she's like, why are you acting so like strange and stuff?
Because I was like, I don't know, I was just a little like off I guess.
And then I get this, and then I get this phone call and she's like, who's that?
I'm like, I have no idea.
And then I get this text and it's like, hi, this is so and so, I have a delivery for you
but since we're located here, it's a delivery, it's kind of out of the way, I just want to
make sure that you are home.
My sister is like, wait a minute, I recognize that name.
She's like, I think they own a flower shop where I live.
I'm like, what?
She's like, who's sending you flowers?
She like freaked out.
She's like, do you have a secret admirer?
Is it somebody I know?
I'm like, whoa, whoa, hold on, like just give me a minute, like to process this.
And I'm like, should I call her back?
And she's like, okay, I'll call her just in case it is like a scam or something like that.
She calls her on her phone and she's like, hello, is this so and so?
Do you have an arrangement that you need to deliver at this and this address?
And she's like, yes, are you Miss Anne?
And my sister's like, no, do you want to talk to her?
And she's like, yeah.
And I'm like, so do you have a floral arrangement for me?
And she's like, yeah.
She's like, are you going to be home?
Because it's kind of out of the way and we just want to make sure somebody's home.
I'm like, well, I'm not home right now, but my mom is.
So you can go ahead and drop it off.
I'm like, what is going on?
Who sent me a floral arrangement?
I have never gotten a floral arrangement from anybody.
I think my dad one time gave me a rose.
And I'm like, this is insane.
My sister was like, okay, you got to tell me who it is and what's going on.
I'm like, you know what?
Maybe I should tell her.
So I kind of told her the story a little bit, what mom and dad did, I think.
She's like, you should ask who it was that sent it.
So I think I did ask.
And they're like, it's Matt.
I'm like, no way.
Because sometimes I keep that in my head.
Sometimes I'll ask, don't mention my name.
But she was like, we'll just check and make sure they sent a certain name or something.
And so we go on with our shopping.
And we stop at a coffee shop and I get my favorite frap.
And I couldn't even drink it.
I gave it to one of my sisters and they still remember that to this day.
One of my twin sisters was like, yeah, you couldn't even drink your coffee.
I'm like, no.
We were like shopping and I was like crying and kind of sniffling it up.
I'm like, that's so sweet.
Who would do that?
And my older sister, she's like, that's what they're supposed to do.
Oh, but it's so sweet.
And so we just kept going around for a little bit shopping.
She's like, are you okay?
I said, actually, I'm not.
I feel kind of sick.
It made me feel kind of sick.
But you haven't even seen the flowers.
No, I haven't even.
But like it was such a shock to me that I don't know that you would do that
on the second day on the second day talking.
Well, we didn't talk.
It was our first time.
Yeah, we only talked once on the phone.
I'm like, first, first impressions, guys.
First impressions. Yeah.
So I'm like, I actually don't feel that good.
My sister was like, you know what?
We should just go home.
So we went home and there they were sitting on the table
because my mom had got them.
Yeah. And I like was like so tearing up.
Like, that's so sweet.
And I kept saying like over and over, like, who would do that?
And I kept thinking, like, in my mind, like, what kind of guy would do that?
He's he must be so sweet.
Like somebody actually cared from the start.
Like, you know, you have like those crushes and then you have,
you know, just like people you're infatuated with.
You're just never quite sure if they really like you or you don't
or if you really like them.
So it's kind of like nice when it's kind of hits you upside the head,
almost like, oh, wow.
Like, I'm like, he likes me.
Yeah, he or interested or is that at least very interested in.
Yeah, he likes me.
And he's a nice guy and got me flowers.
Yeah, because it was like on the website.
It was like, what occasion is it for?
And I was like, I don't know, because I'm like,
I don't want this thing covered in hearts, you know?
Yeah, I don't want it to say because it's like a romantic occasion.
I'm like, no, because that just seems too pushy.
So I forgot.
I think it was something about random.
Just like a random day or something like that.
Yeah, just because.
And they were so it was such a cute, like,
if we have the we have the photos somewhere, we'll try to find it.
And we'll we'll put it in the video.
Yeah, because it was like, oh, it's so cute.
Called, I said, what I said was, guess what I got today?
And you got this big old grin on your face because I knew.
Thank you. Yeah, you're welcome.
You just got this big old grin on your face.
And I'm like, oh, he's so sweet.
We talked for that was the first time we had seen each other
in like real life.
So I was pretty surreal.
You were done up.
I was that day. Yeah.
Not like you're going crazy, but you had makeup on and everything like that.
And then I was done up.
I had my hair combed and everything like that.
So I think we talked for another like four hours or something.
Yeah, probably four or five hours.
I got done.
I think I think what happened was I got done talking to her
and either was that evening or the next.
I think it could have been the next day, like afternoon time.
I called up her dad and I just got kind of like guilty.
If you get guilty.
About what? About the girl.
The other girl. No, no, no, no.
I I just wanted to let him know like everything that was going on
because I'm just kind of a transparent type of guy.
So I was like, hey, I got to tell you something.
You know, tell me this.
When did you like a month, months?
It could have been.
It could have been like 20 something days in a couple of weeks.
So anyway, so well, before that, he said that it made his daughter cry,
made and cry when the flowers showed up.
He thought that was really, really sweet of me to send flowers anyway.
So I said, hey, can I can I share with you something?
And I'm like, it's pretty personal.
You know, he said, yeah, sure.
So I told him, I said, well, I'm like, it's pretty crazy circumstance
that this has all happened in like a weekend where I was interested
in one girl called her dad.
He didn't answer, got ghosted for a couple of days.
Then on Monday, your letter came.
I talked to you and then I talked to your daughter on Tuesday, on a Tuesday.
And while talking to your daughter, this guy, this dad called me back
about his daughter.
And I'm like, I just, you know, I was praying like crazy.
You know, that's what I told him.
And I was like, I think it's just I think it's a God thing.
And I told my parents that, too.
I was like, I think it's God saying, nope, nope, nope.
Here's the right girl, you know, type of thing, which is pretty cool.
Yeah, I told him that.
And he's like, he was like, wow, that's that's pretty wild, you know, because
you say that.
I do remember dad coming home with like this kind of like his face.
You know, like it was kind of different.
Like, yeah. Yeah.
And he said, well, how did he say he said,
you know, you can go as slow as you want.
You know, he is like, there's no rush.
He said it goes from acquaintances to friends to courtship, courtship
to engagement and then marriage, you know.
And he said, no matter where you are in that lineup,
you can always go back to acquaintances.
You know, he said there's no zero pressure, you know.
And that's we have both been like that, too.
Like we just purpose that if.
Yeah. If it didn't work out in any way, if God shut the door in any way, then.
Yeah, we told each other that like right off the bat.
I'm like, I think we said it again on the second time we talked to each other.
If this I think you kept like reiterating the fact and stuff,
because you never wanted me to be in a position where I'd be like, oh, you know,
this guy sent me flowers.
So now I have to like him and or like you're a month in.
And it's like, oh, well, well, shoot.
He's already dedicated all this time with me every other day.
He talks to me for four hours now.
You know, I kind of feel obliged to, you know, keep him going.
And that's just I didn't want that.
And I don't think I ever felt that way.
I know that might seem odd to like dating couples.
But for one, we weren't even dating.
We were just friends.
But it never felt like I was being guilted or pushed into anything.
Yeah, I had so much freedom and we could go at our own pace.
And it was just like our own pace.
Yeah. Our own pace.
Yeah. Pretty much.
I mean, the first six calls to eight calls were just dozens of questions.
Yeah. Lots and lots and lots and lots of questions.
You ask most of the questions and then I turn around and say,
you'd spend it on me.
What do you think about that?
Yeah, we definitely talked about getting physical in a relationship
and what our thoughts were on that.
We talked about modesty roles.
We talked about single income homes.
We talked about holiday holidays.
We talk children, children.
How many children do you want to have?
We talked about health, too.
And then we talked about just our backgrounds.
Yeah. A lot of storytelling.
Yeah, there's a lot of stories.
There's a lot of background.
Mainly. Yeah, there was a lot that you had to do, too,
because you knew a lot about me and and then.
But then in certain sections,
there are some big gaps that are just not public.
But I felt like I was like starting over, like just knowing you.
Yeah, I knew you, but I didn't know you.
Yeah, because I think that's what you mentioned in the second or third call.
You were like, you're just how did you say it to you?
Like, you're the same, but it's just different.
It's like personal. Yeah.
Because I'm real.
Yeah. On a personal level.
And it's not this like edited version.
Yeah, not this.
I could see you for.
Yeah, it wasn't edited.
It wasn't perfected or anything like that.
Yeah. Highly recommend the one hundred and one questions
before you get married book or before courtship or whatever.
It's on Amazon. Highly recommend it.
We got the book.
I think I ordered that for me and and like two weeks in or or one weekend.
But when we got it, it was it was really, really nice
because we were trying to come up with questions.
But it was also funny because when we were going through the book,
we'd be like, oh, check, check, check, check, check, check.
We asked like, yo, we asked like a lot, a lot of questions like.
Yeah, because yeah, my mom was like, this is like way more questions
than I have ever asked your dad.
I remember you telling me that they got married.
They're like, y'all are like y'all will know each other way more than me.
And your dad knew each other when they were first getting to know each other,
you know, because that's just what it was.
We just were we were just we just didn't want to be like girlfriend
and boyfriend, I guess.
Distance thing. There can't really be that anyway.
Now it's kind of because it's just like it's up.
Why are you doing it then?
It's like, why are you doing it?
You're just wasting your time, you know, because it's not like
I could go hang out with her or something like that.
No, we had to talk, which was a good thing.
We had to communicate to each other because, you know,
you can't just sit on the couch and look at each other.
Yeah, because I think there's a lot of that with young couples
when they get to see each other or you can't just sit on the couch
and movie together because you're talking on the phone to each other.
So we were going to meet somewhere in the future face to face in person.
That's in the next video.
Yeah, a little wink wink for you there.
But I was looking and actually looking for perfume.
I know that might sound crazy.
Me too. But it was like, I cannot find the right scent.
So I think I ended up getting like three different scents.
I'm like, I asked you, I said, Matt, what kind of scent do you like?
And you're like, for like candles.
And I'm like, yeah, I'm like, I feel like on a girl.
Like, what do you like to smell on a girl, on a girl?
I want to smell good, you know, to him, to be memorable.
And then I said, I said, what?
Like, who is this girl?
You know, do I know her?
Like, no comment.
And you're like a wink wink or something like that.
Cute. And and that's what I was facing, too, because I'm like,
because we were thinking about meeting each other in real life.
And I'm like, the first time she smells me like I want to smell really good
and like memorable. Yeah.
So then when you smell it, you're like, oh, that's him.
Yeah. Yeah. Or like that.
And it's funny because we still have those same scents that we had.
And the second I smell a hint of it, I'm like, oh, that's her.
Well, well, remember, because you said you said like, what type of
what type of scents do you like?
Yeah. I said, well, I'm like, I'm kind of like a foodie.
I can't like any type of like vanilla.
That's a lot of guys.
Pumpkin. I mean, like anything to eat their girl.
Yeah. This smells delicious.
I mean, hook it up like great.
Hey, they say the way to a man's heart is to stop.
Yeah. I mean, if you smell delicious, that's awesome.
You know, if you smell like a snickerdoodle cookie, sugar cookie
coating and caramel sauce, I mean, that's great.
So I said the only thing that I don't want you to smell like
the one smell I don't like is like old granny.
You know, I just died.
We were dying laughing.
I did finally find one.
Yeah. So and I'm going to go with.
Well, you pick two.
You still have to. Yeah, I still have to.
I think I got three.
They both smell pretty good.
Two were very similar in the smell.
And then the other one was more dangerous.
Yeah. So the other little bit of a nugget before we leave y'all today is for
the whole entire time before I met Anne,
I made a deal with myself that I was not going to tell her
that I loved her until I met her in person
because I really wanted it.
I really wanted to mean it because it's so it's pretty cheap saying,
oh, I love you over the phone like a man like that's really easy to do.
In my opinion, it's not that hard.
You know, it doesn't take a lot of courage to do that.
And I'm like, I'm not going to do that until I meet her in person.
I kind of slipped up barely with the perfume, with the perfume,
because I said, even if you do smell like an old granny, I would still love you.
I would still love you.
And I'm like, that's not quite.
So not quite. Not quite.
But the old. Yeah. So anyway.
So stay tuned for next week's video.
We are going to be talking about the first time we met
and all of that, that first impression,
our first impressions, our first thoughts of each other.
