Governor Healey's office is currently showcasing a rotating art exhibit featuring artists from western Massachusetts.
Governor Healey's office has a rotating
art display and right now it features
Western Massachusetts artists.
22 News state house reporter Olivia Ray
is live and she takes us inside the
governor's office for a look at the
exhibit.
That's right. Western Massachusetts
artist Adam Brown starts every
conversation with his models the same
way, by asking, "How long can you hold
your breath underwater?"
Brown, an experienced deep sea diver and
the child of two artists, is among those
being featured in a display in the
governor's ceremonial office at the
state house. The artists are recipients
of mass cultural council grants and are
being recognized for their unique
vision. Brown, who is from Lennox, joins
his models underwater to take portraits
as they both hold their breath.
So comfortable underwater. I spent most
of my life blowing bubbles. Uh that it
was the obvious thing and there weren't
a lot of people doing it.
His pieces titled Skating Underwater and
Synchro number three are among those
featured at the state house. In addition
to providing recognition from state
leadership, Brown says display in the
governor's office and the grants these
artists received gets more eyes on
Western Massachusetts works.
I mean, it's the people's state house.
It's a It's museum. It's a It's a
historic building, so I imagine it'll
get international attention.
Brown says he is considering doing an
underwater shoot at his local lake in
Lennox as his next big project. Works by
Chelsea Rodriguez of Pittsfield and
Sarah Sutro of North Adams are also
featured in the exhibit.
Brown's work and the Western
Massachusetts art will be on display in
the governor's ceremonial office at the
state house until September 12th.
