This fairly easy 1 1/2-mile hike takes us up to a pretty little lake in the Colorado Rockies near Purgatory. But then a thunderstorm dumps hail and rain and pummels the region. Enjoy aspens, flowers, birds, and more!
Rockhopper here, and if you're going to Purgatory, well, you might as well go to Spud Lake, too. Come on. Let's go.
I was told that the hike to Spud Lake is about a mile and a half
And a fairly moderate hike with not too much elevation gain
So I guess we'll find out. A nice view of one of the peaks. I believe that may be Engineer Peak
Not entirely sure or maybe it's that one right there. Well, look at that
Looks like this pond could be the residence of a beaver
There's a beaver lodge in the distance. That mound of sticks
Yeah, that's the beaver lodge right there. At the upper end of the pond
It looks like there's maybe another beaver lodge. That big bunch of sticks and mud. That's it
A little Indian paintbrush there for you. Looks like we're coming up to the lake
That didn't take very long. Looks like an osprey right there
Thunderstorms are brewing off in the distance
It's starting to hail
Here it comes, a big hailstorm
This rain and hailstorm has made the temperature a bit cooler, maybe 10 to 15 degrees
And I'm staying sheltered
underneath
This tree right here
20 minutes later and it's hailing yet again
I think the thunderstorm bringing rain and hail is starting to end
so
Thank you tree for keeping me dry
Alright, let's go have a look at the lake a little bit more
Wow, look at the size of this mushroom
This thing's huge
Holy guacamole Batman
Mama duck there is keeping her babies hidden from me. They're behind the log
There's the babies
Some more babies. I hope you enjoyed hiking up to Colorado's Spud Lake with me
