Autumn is a splendid time of year to hike into the Eastern Sierras of California. This moderate hike takes us to serene Parker Lake bursting with colorful fall foliage. See wildlife, majestic mountain backdrops, and of course, the lake.
This is Rock Hopper. It's a beautiful day in the Eastern Sierra and a beautiful day to hike to Parker Lake.
Well, it didn't take long until we got to the border of the Ansel Adams Wilderness.
And speaking of Ansel Adams, back in the 80s when I did my coast walk, 3,300 miles in 13 months,
down the American shoreline from Canada to Mexico, I had a picnic with Ansel Adams' wife and his daughter.
Ansel had passed away about a year before. Too bad I didn't get to meet him.
It wasn't just them. There were a lot of other people there too.
But they happened to be there. So that was pretty cool.
All right, it looks like we've got a nice vista here. Possibly a little fall color popping in down below.
This should be a good hike. Take in a bit of that fall color that's popping. Luscious.
The Aspens have been just a little late this year, but now they're starting to come alive with color.
Now to the side of the trail is a pretty little stream.
I was just told that it's a Jeffrey Pine. Mighty big, Jeffrey Pine.
The world needs more of.
After about two miles, looks like we're coming to the lake.
Welcome to Parker Lake.
It's beautiful.
Mergansers. Got a fish.
Heading toward the west side of the lake.
And we're going through a really nice Aspen grove here.
I'm on the south side of Parker Lake.
And these Aspens have kicked in with some color. But they haven't reached their peak yet.
Look at the size of these Aspen trunks.
This one's a normal size here.
But look at the size of this one right over here.
And this one as well. Look at the size of this tree.
Here's a look at Parker Lake looking toward the west.
You keep on subscribing and I'll keep taking you to beautiful places just like this.
Until next time, this is a Rock Hopper. I'll see you again.
