Many people might know about Anthony Lakes in the mountains of Oregon but few realize there are some fairly easy hikes to other lakes just beyond. Come hiking and exploring with me and discover these hidden gems.
i'm the rockhopper and today i'm at
anthony lakes in the mountains of oregon
but there are some lakes just beyond
that you may not even know about and i'm
going to show you them today
[Music]
if you're not an experienced tiger
that's okay the hikes i'm going to show
you are reasonably easy
we'll start out here with a nice simple
hike
of a quarter mile of lily pad lake and
then onward from there we'll head up to
black lake
that was sure a fast walk to lily pad
lake which is appropriately named
because it does have a lot of lily pads
on it i don't even think that was a
quarter mile just took me a minute to
get here
there's a dragonfly laying some eggs on
that lily pad right there
a lot of these pretty blue dragonflies
in this area
that's sight mountain up there and you
can see why
little notch in the mountain like a gun
sight
not hard to see that fall is getting
very close
judging by the color in the grass that
is changing the huckleberries are all
gone
people bears and birds have eaten them
all up
and their colors are changing too
we've left lily pad lake behind
and we're on the way to black lake now
and the trail
does have an incline now but it's not
terrible the trail is leveled out again
but
i think we're probably gonna have to do
some climbing
to get to black lake here's our turn off
for black lake
and we are going uphill again
we're alternating between open areas and
forest as we hike
looks like we're coming up to black lake
this is indeed
black lake
[Music]
let's have a walk around the lake
come on
here's a look at the lake
from the other side now that we've
explored lily pad and black lake let's
go to a couple other lakes
we'll have to go back out the same way
we came in
to get to here and then we'll take a
different trail up to some other lakes
summer is fading away and quite quickly
especially at this elevation
which is at about 7 500 feet looks like
something started to make a nesting
cavity in this dead tree
did you know
that standing dead trees
called snags
can harbor as much if not more life
than a living tree
yes dead trees can be home to
woodpeckers squirrels
all sorts of things and birds such as
ospreys and bald eagles
tend to nest at the very tops the
openness of the dead branches
create great lookouts one last look at
black lake
back out we go
those birds are stellar
stellar's jays
it's not far too hot for lakes and the
trail is
relatively easy
the hoffer lakes trail parallels a
stream
[Applause]
one last spot of summer color
i'm actually surprised to find it
here's a little foot bridge across the
stream
looks like it's in need of some repair
another little foot bridge not far from
the first one
there's some tiny fish in this stream
and a few fish that are bigger than
these little fingerlings here
looks like we're coming up to a sign
probably for hoffer lake
that's it all right
now there's a fish
having a look at me while i'm having a
look at him this fish is not as big as
he appears
pretty little butterfly there i think
that might be a
comma butterfly
let's go have a look at the next hoffer
lake
come on
we'll go across this little log bridge
here
and another
and another right after that well that
didn't take long to get to the next lake
this is the second of the hopper lakes
i hear chickadees in the trees
just past the second hoffer lake a nice
little cascade of water down the granite
face
i hope you enjoyed exploring the
lesser-known lakes beyond anthony lakes
with me and the trails that take you
there don't forget to subscribe every
time i get new subscribers it encourages
me to keep coming out to places of
beauty like this and sharing them with
you and don't forget to give me a thumbs
up like on my videos

time this is a rockhopper
