Hoover Dam and Old West Mining Town with Donkeys - Oatman Arizona - Jenna & Dale's Vacation Day 4

hey guys good morning so it is day four and um we're heading out in our rental car for the last day we're dropping it off today and we're here at the famous las vegas sign yes we're gonna go get a picture in my stitch shirt from uh chris and maria lake point of visitors viva la stitch and then we're gonna head out to the hoover dam and um in an old mining town yes very old oatman arizona it's about two hour drive so donkey town and you'll see why yeah so we're excited um let's go out and check out the sign let's do it so here it is the famous las vegas sign how cool is this it's awesome you just walk up to it it's like random here and they have a little sidewalk you can get your picture taken yes very cool right next to the airport yeah and there's a parking lot so if you do have a rental car it's very small parking lot but you can park here um if you have a rental car all right we're on our way to the hoover dam wow look at that sorry the windshield is dirty again wow there it is for damn lake mead national recreation area take exit too polar city okay these roads are a little scary double dale it's like we're on the one but there's not ocean down there it's road california yeah in california highway one but we're not all the way to the hoover dam a lot of people coming out yeah that's a good sign yes hopefully it won't be too busy all right we're in driving down into hoover dam we had to have a little security check like disney not quite wow oh there's a bridge scenic view probably where you can see it from here stop here okay might as well all right so we're gonna head up to see the hoover dam so here's the lookout area and you have to go all the way up there to check it out let's go we're out here on the walkway here's the highway yeah there it is wow here we are at the hoover dam it just so goes way down there and all the power plant everything down there and you can see over on the other side there's literally boats that come up to this area and it's the walkway here is literally right next to the road it is windy but you can probably hear the it's pretty wind she's got a new moab shirt on that is awesome [Music] what'd you think dale oh that was super cool super cool quite the iconic view it really is sorry for the wind i did not bring my uh covers so this is arizona over here crossover right there roof at a state line super cool so check it out there's a car bridge right there i am where we were standing up top how cool is that that is so cool all right we're gonna drive over it there we go that's where we were wow so cool we'll get better views when we get out to walk so there's the visitor center can't even see that from the bridge now we're on the other side and there's the bridge again dale's getting us some water you need lots of water out here out west it's hot and dry super cool but keep off there's the boats we saw from way across the way just cruising we've got them blocked here i can't get past nice little overlook so here is an additional spillway from when the lake mead gets to a certain level and the last time this was actually used or needed was in 1983. since then the water has never been that high and believe it or not the water level was right here well that's the highest because they control they can control the water depth but it it can it was at that point it was up here at this level how crazy is that you can see the level and it's way down there now but yeah 1983. this was awesome and the in the water it just went flowing shooting across shooting across over there into the spillway and then down super cool and it's the largest uh man-made lake yes in the us it's unbelievable this lake was man-made that is a lot and it was way before all the technology and everything that we have today impressive so we are here on the other side you can see the hoover dam it is massive there's the visitors center over there and again the branch where we were hanging out and dale taking it all in yes all right we're actually on the bridge the hoover dam right now hanging over hanging out yeah actually be careful he's got my back down there got my lounge flag again but yes there is water down there hold tight onto the phone this is when i wish i had the gimbal super cool we're on the hoover dam dale yes we are on the hoover dam on hoover dam this is really cool a little frightening just a little bit kind of far down there but still really cool look at that on the bridge great view great view right there i love it smile pick it's a sign named in honor of herbert clark hoover 31st president of the united states that's awesome another perspective look those look like little porthole windows down there okay oh my word dale just saw it says uh us department of interior march hopefully you can see it it's really bright um march 1849. yep in the bottom of the seal that is actually our room number right now at the hotel we're saying that that's awesome what a coincidence so the hoover dam had a dog mascot which i love um they found him as a puppy by the workers over here it says the dog who owned a dam so um he was adored by all the workers they overfed him and they prepared him a daily meal which he carried in a little sack lunch so cute he went over the ladders the catwalks and through tunnels he went up and down the uh elevator he was the mascot they accompanied the workers everywhere and even chased away cats and other dogs i would come and visit so cute so we're going over the bridge that we were walking out on so the hoover dam is this way pretty cool now we're in arizona and now we're in arizona can't see anything from here but you could on the other side maybe maybe not on to oatman let's go and yeah we're hot it is hot it is so hot it's and four so no harm four 104 there is arizona yep and uh yeah we need plenty of water i bought some more water so yeah let's go see some donkeys and open all right we got off the highway and now we are heading to oatman we're still heading open oh it's about 20 some miles yup and we'll be there hopefully a lot of donkeys are out today i'm gonna find out it is up in the hills yeah i remember kind of these uh mountains up here but yeah we drove through all the mountains to get there so this is historic route 66 that we're on right now pretty cool and literally there's like nobody nobody's going to open right now i think i saw like one or two cars going the other way let's see how busy the town is there's nothing that mountains there it is we're gonna go up those mountains [Music] sorry about the noise cool springs cabins these cool springs cabins and cute little old school gas station that is so cool there's two meters [Music] so [Music] me [Music] [Applause] [Music] hmm [Music] so these roads have been a little crazy a little bit crazy you could probably see from my uh video i just took speed up video but this is like the mining area i guess oh yeah here we go here's the slime for open oh cool 2.2 miles probably take 10 minutes here you can see they still have like a door of the entryway uh back into the mountains for all the mining check this out this is down here too oh cool who knows where that goes all right guys we're here we made it open oatman arizona so it is 27 feet elevation 2700 feet that's it and that was a crazy oh my goodness windy road but it was worth it it was really cool that's why we came two donkeys yeah we did last we did not come up that way the last time we came here no we did not because i drove and i would have been petrified yeah she would be like dale wake up you're driving dale dale dale yep um but yeah let's go check it out it's founded in 1906. so there's no mining town the area's mines had produced over 1.8 million ounces of gold by the late 1930s the boom was over and in 1942 the last remaining mines were closed as non-essential to the war effort so it was founded about 1906. yeah crazy wow well the donkeys and stuff are inside the mines used for hauling rock in and then they just stuck around afterwards yep and so supposedly they're supposed to be roaming around the streets oh good to know good to know they will okay all right so i can't pet them go see if we can see any because the last time we came here was several years ago as we were moving out to california and uh they were leaving like right at five o'clock it was like up close it's closing time time to leave but here's the opening post office how cool is this well you can even be a donkey dale's going to be a donkey there he is cool dude are the donkeys coming do you see anything they're down the road oh i see them oh my goodness oh there's the oatman hotel okay we found it we found some there's four of them oh five here's another luncheon hi buddy [Music] hi there um he's full yeah that's food oh he shook his head he's like now i'm good when ice cream cone and said oh man are you a part goat you're good he's all done oh he's like throw it down oh see maybe they like it but no just kidding you gonna come up here and see us so there's a few more over there hanging out check out this town the mountains behind an old west looking building there's the oatman hotel this is just so cool oh he's peeing they have a shooting gallery arcade kind of like a disney this is so cool is even a donkey don't shoot at the donkey [Music] spurrow barn there's an escape room jail over here oh there's a jail over here a punishment cell this town is so cool so here is a old safe right here let's go in here and check it out dale oh wow that's where you would hide your gold cool your collectibles there's a mine over here let's go check it out it's a little creepy there's a bat just kidding it's not real happy halloween wait what's the tick tock freaking bats freaking bats or i love freaking battles happy halloween oh wow i think i messed up the tick tock but that's okay wow look at that that's cool so we bought some uh donkey food at one of the awesome stores yep he has some in his mouth right now he eats as slow as jenna oh yeah don't step in the poop since i got my mouth full oh theo lost it i got plenty oh here comes his friend come here friend hi there hi you're so pretty how are you doing oh there he goes oh this one's getting jealous oh my word that one got me oh my goodness that was amazing thanks a little buddy huh good job oh just kidding he dropped it you're like my tampa bay oh and okay is it too big too big of a piece for you oh there he goes okay all right okay oh my goodness oh my goodness so cute okay check this out [Music] check this out guys oh my goodness oh my goodness [Music] oh this road i tell ya but it's worth it it's worth it it's it's own roller coaster if i'm driving it literally is literally is very pretty 66. that's probably one of the mines you can see a hole in the side of the mountain there right there oh yeah i see that [Music] can't cool see it but it's over there we walked out on this uh bridge right here earlier so yeah this is where we were standing heading to nevada again by arizona [Music] we're heading into the paris our hotel and it is just so cool here on the outside eiffel tower and it's cool because you can see the eiffel tower as you go inside as well let's head inside so it's really cool as you head in they have a nice little photo op over here and then that goes up to the top of the eiffel tower i love how it looks like it's outside of the sky and there's one of the sides of the eiffel tower over here it's a really cool hotel all right guys well that is it for day four from our vacation last year in 2021 um and we got to check out the hoover dam and oatman arizona the old west town um so cool with the donkeys oh my goodness super cool if you ever get a chance to head out there i highly recommend it um i had hoped that we had filmed a little bit more out in oatman but when i was editing it i noticed that we didn't but we did have a lot of fun while
