2025 Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Preview

In less than 24 hours, enshrinement at the Basketball Hall of Fame will begin, and 22 News reporter Nick Antinakis tells us everything you need to know ahead of tomorrow's festivities downtown. Enshrinement weekend is upon us and the countdown to the nine honores being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame is on. NBA legends Carmemelllo Anthony and Dwight Howard as well as WNBA superstars Sue Bird, Sylvia Fowls, and Maya Moore are headlining the class, but one basketball fan is excited to see a player who went to his high school get honored. >> Um, Melo, cuz I go to Oakill. I've been here for 3 years now, and it's really exciting for him to get an opportunity like this for all the work he put in. It's just beautiful. Melo and Howard were also a part of the United States's 2008 men's basketball team, better known as the redeem team, that is also getting enshrined. Also among those to be selected for the honor are coach Billy Donovan, referee Danny Crawford, and contributor Mickey Arison. >> You know, it's very hard cuz given there's only like 4,000 players in the NBA in general. Um, so I just find it once again beautiful cuz not a lot of people can get to that stage even though they put in the same work. Before the honores have their names ingrained in basketball history forever, there are a slew of events happening throughout the day on Saturday. Tomorrow, a set of coaches will be honored at the Naymith Coaching Circle, and the one and only Ice Cube will present the Ice Cube Impact Award to former player and current TV analyst Jaylen Rose. The weekend becomes a lot more than just the ceremony, especially for Springfield locals who experience it firsthand. It's very exciting seeing all these famous people come to Springfield. Just to see people get inducted to the Hall of Fame, it's very going to be very great seeing them here. >> All that and we haven't even gone to the red carpet yet. That starts at 6:00 tomorrow night. Working for you, Nick Antinakis, 22 News.
