With the start of the new NBA season less than a week away, excitement is building around the Philadelphia 76ers and one of their biggest offseason additions, Jaylen Brown.
Basketball is a major part of Brown's world, but on Wednesday, he stepped away from the court and into the community.
He invited Action News anchor Sharrie Williams along for an exclusive look as he surprised students at three Philadelphia high schools: Imhotep Institute Charter High School, Academy at Palumbo and Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts.

NBA star Jalen Brown knows what it takes to win a title.
He's a proven winner on the court,
but today he was all about being a champion in the community.
He invited me along for an exclusive look
as he embraced high school students across the city
using his star power to inspire and make a difference,
something he tells me he learned from his grandmother.
From room to room, the reaction is the same.
A thrilling welcome because Jalen Brown is showing up
and showing love to Philadelphia.
I've been hearing how dope, you know, how creative,
how amazing you guys have been doing this year.
The Sixers star visited three high schools in three hours,
Imhotep, Palumbo, and Kappa, and it was all a surprise.
We want to encourage you to do even better.
Brown sharing a message of perseverance
and the value of pursuing an education.
Faith, consistency, hard work.
Kids see the fame and they see the money,
right, that your job can bring you.
But what do you want them to know about
the mindset of discipline and education?
Or just the responsibility to, like, the community.
Like, we all are responsible for each other.
Like, we all are contributing equally to society.
and that no matter how big your platform is or may get,
that you have a responsibility to your community.
The teenagers were rewarded for their academic work
with the NBA champion presenting signed jerseys to deserving students,
taking time to play one-on-one with some of the young ballers,
also giving away highly sought-after tickets to Sixers games.
Browns teammates Justin Edwards, Adem Bona, and Taco Fall
coming along and adding to the excitement.
All right, it's not getting old, is it?
How does it feel going school to school today?
Never gets old.
Never gets old.
I got Taco with me, so we good.
This mission you have to give back, to pour into other people,
where does that come from for you?
I think just, I would say my grandma, my grandmother.
She was very rooted in education,
and she always very rooted in the community as well.
She kind of taught all of her grandkids and her kids
that, you know, it's more you've got to contribute to your community
and be a solution to the problems that you see around you
instead of complaining about them.
The NBA All-Star is determined to be a part of the solution
during his time in Philadelphia
as he represents himself on and off the court.
It isn't just the community itself.
You know, just trying to be, use my platform in a positive way.
You know, I know that sports in our society
and in our community are big,
So being able to use that to steer kids
in the right direction is important.
It was something to see, Rick, right?
The way he walked in rooms and the kids' faces just light up that way.
And he's determined to really be a part of this community.
And you heard him share the stories he's learned from his past,
and he's now trying to move it forward,
reach back to bring other people along.
He's already scoring points.
Yeah, he is.
And the big question is, did he give any tickets?
To us, yeah.
I'll tell you more about where we're going to sit.
Oh, boy.
Looks like I'm in the car.
All right. Thank you.
But glad to be with Jalen for that exclusive story.
Nice job. Thank you for that report.
