Local and state officials resist expanded ICE operations in Massachusetts

And on the state level, the Trump administration is officially moving to expand ice operations in Massachusetts, which has elected leaders speaking out. Homeland Security calls it Operation Patriot 2.0, targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records. It follows a surge earlier this year that resulted in nearly 1,500 arrests across the state. The operation comes after the Trump administration filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Boston and several of its leaders, accusing the city of violating immigration laws through its sanctuary policies. Now, Senator Ed Markey is weighing in on the issue. This is authoritarianism masking as immigration enforcement. Trump is trying to bully Massachusetts. Trump is trying to distract people from his economy, which is cratering. Markey adds Massachusetts has to resist and is standing with Governor Maura Healey in fighting against this.
