Hi, we are Stephen, Jess, Hunter and baby Koa - an Australian family who have had quite the journey. After travelling the world as a couple in 2020 we had our very first baby, we then spent the following year self-converted a van before moving into it full-time to drive around Australia. Cut to 2023 we welcomed our second child Koa into the world before resuming full-time travel around the world. ---------------------------------------- 0:00 Intro
This video is brought to you by Squarespace.
Hey everybody, welcome back to Nepal.
If you're just tuning in, this is our second episode here
in this incredibly beautiful country.
The first one was focusing on the culture.
We went and saw some beautiful stupas,
explored Kathmandu, got to really feel the vibe
of the major cities.
Welcome to Nepal!
But as you can now see, it is pretty quiet around here.
We've decided to come out to a place called Bukhara.
It's about a 25 minute flight from Kathmandu.
We've come out here to see the countryside.
We're about to do our first hike.
We're going to Australian camp.
Australian camp.
If you didn't know, we're from Australia,
so it makes sense.
So if you guys are interested in the tour we've done
right here in Nepal with our friend Iris
from Your Travel Nation, I'll leave the links below.
Plus we chatted to Iris,
and if you wanted to book this exact tour,
she'll give you guys 10% off.
Just mentioned flying the nest.
But she does tours all around the world.
We went to Tanzania with her.
Mentioned us, she'll give you 5% off those ones.
So definitely check it out,
because we've had an incredible time here in Nepal.
Time to leave the civilization.
Are you ready?
Yes.
All right, let's do this, guys.
See ya, bud.
See you soon.
So they say a bunch of Aussies came hiking here
and set up camp,
and it's been called Australian camp ever since.
And they say once you get to the top,
there is beautiful views of the mountains.
I'm hoping we get lucky,
because the mist has been following us this entire trip.
But regardless, you already see beautiful views.
You just see all these little villages.
I think they have rice terraces
all through the mountains here.
But yeah, there's like lots of little villages.
But it's a very beautiful temperature for hiking today.
So got a little bit of cool in the air.
Well, the sun's just popping out now.
They say normally it's a two hour hike.
So I'm saying it's a four hour hike,
because we do have the little ones.
Yeah, let's do it.
Thank you.
This is our amazing porter.
He's helping us carry some of our things for the night.
I find it amazing how they find it easy
to carry it with their head.
Our little team is Little Hunter,
Mommy with Koa.
And then we have our guide from Your Travel Nation
helping us out.
And then we have our incredible Sherpa or porter.
And of course, I know initially you see someone
that is carrying all our bags and you're like,
Stephen, why are you guys doing this?
Of course, for them, they've been doing this
as their livelihood for 20, 30 years.
And it's a way of earning income.
They find the baggage perfectly light.
It's just one night.
So it's not a lot of stuff we have.
And they can come and hike through beautiful mountains
and meet people from around the world.
So they're earning an income,
which they're more than happy to take.
And they're helping us make today much easier.
I found Waka Waka.
You found Waka Waka?
Whenever we do hiking, Koa's on DJ
and he usually always chooses Shakira.
He's so happy now.
If you wanted to know Koa's favorite song,
Try Everything by Shakira,
always gets him in a good mood.
Here it goes.
What's this song, Koa?
Waka Waka.
Alrighty.
I think this means we're halfway.
We'll see.
Cause apparently it's a two hour hike.
And it says 50 minutes.
I feel like we've only been hiking for what?
An hour?
Yeah.
We're going faster than I thought.
This is much easier than the hike we did
if you saw our series in Komodo.
So this is just feeling like a breeze today.
I got everybody a ladybug.
Ladybug, ladybug.
It's a ladybug.
Is it tickling you?
Yeah.
If you guys wanted to know what hiking with kids are,
we stopped to have a quick snack break
and then realized a crumb of Pringles
had fallen on the floor
and the ants were taking it back to their nest.
And then realized the rest of the snackies
were sacrificed to the ants.
And they're all trying to get them into the hole.
Look how strong they are, Hunter.
I don't know how strong they were.
Look at them lifting it.
Look at them.
Wow.
They're moving so fast with them, Hunter.
Look, they're trying to get it down the hole.
So about halfway.
So for us, about an hour in, hour and 20 in,
there's a little cafe that sells cold drinks.
So we all had a juice box.
We got one for our board and our guide.
And then we're just watching ants for the last 20 minutes.
But look, it's just someone's home.
They got some goats just here.
But honestly, this hike is seriously a breeze.
I think Indonesia scarred us compared to this.
All right, back to Waka Waka.
I'm gonna take this.
I don't want to climb.
He does not want me to help him.
You got this, buddy.
Oh, we made it.
Well, we're at the top anyway.
But I see two tents out there.
Yeah, I can see the orange and yellow tent.
Oh.
Yeah, this is the end.
We made it.
What are you gonna do?
Crawl under it?
Slowly.
Slowly, Lush.
There you go, bud.
Nothing beats the feeling when you conquer a hike.
Especially because we gave ourselves four hours to do this.
We did it in just over two.
Two and a half.
I'm proud of ourselves with the kiddos.
Kiddos had a lot of breaks.
But it literally says, I love Australian camp.
And I see another sign.
It says, coffee is a hug in a mug.
And I agree.
Oh, I've never heard that before.
I need a coffee.
The kids are running.
But again, I feel like the mist is just following us
right now because right now,
we're meant to have amazing views of the mountain ranges.
We'll find some stop footage just to show you
if you come and do this camp,
how amazing the views are.
But it still looks beautiful.
We just can't see the mountain ranges.
But fingers crossed in the morning,
we get a clear moment.
But the kids are in a tent
and I'm worried someone's in those tents.
Someone could be sleeping.
So they call this the Australian base camp.
I know we are nowhere near Everest,
but there is another major hike
that people actually start from this spot.
Looks like we are currently at 2,016 meters above sea level.
I feel like if you're hiking in Nepal,
you've got to get the momos for lunch, right?
And we've been having steamed this whole time.
So we thought we'd get a couple of fried as well.
So veggie momos here in Australian base camp.
No side of Vegemite though.
Oh, thank you.
Also, I've yet to see one Australian.
See all the veggies inside?
Yum.
Good?
They're so flavorsome.
Yeah, so good.
All right, I guess it's time to see
what all the fuss is about with this.
Aussie coffee shop here.
Let's see.
Oh, good day, Sheila.
Welcome to the Aussie camp.
Hey, mate.
I'm the only Aussie here.
Oh, what do you do?
Do you want to do a coffee?
Oh, yeah.
Let me whip one up for you.
Thanks, mate.
Shh, shh, shh.
Oh, got this beauty right here.
Oh, gorgeous.
Thank you.
Enjoy.
All right, have a good day, mate.
All right.
It is in a heart, in a mug.
Hunter read that sign before all by herself.
I'm so proud of you.
I need to document this.
Hunter's starting to read.
Look at this little cuddly pie.
Bye-bye.
Bye.
We're still the only Aussies we've met.
We've just finished lunch.
We're just letting the kids have a little play.
Wake up, ready, set, go.
Ready, set, go.
Ready, go.
Bye, mom.
So after this, we're hiking an hour and a half back down
to where we're staying the night.
Hunter's yet to learn this fact.
Okay, ready, hold on.
And then, let's see if I get you both.
Super mom.
Go.
I did it, I did it.
Okay, now we just gotta hike down.
Hunter, I have something to tell you.
We still have to hike for another hour and a half.
I didn't know.
I will cry.
You've done so good so far, though.
Disgusting.
It's a disgusting idea.
Let's keep on going.
It's gone down 500 meters.
Yeah.
Always feel special when you've hiked to your hotel.
Like you really feel like you've deserved it.
We've arrived in a place called Dampus.
And I just saw a picture when we were going past a shop
of what the view normally looks like.
This place is just, right now, behind me,
is so many mountain ranges.
I really hope the mist clears tomorrow.
Yeah, this is where we slept.
We did it.
Let's have a look.
Namaste.
So guys, that's how many steps we did.
And you can just see the orange graph
in terms of like how much steps.
Room review.
Remember, no shoes on the bed.
Oh man, that's a...
Oh, a little bit different than if we were camping
in those yellow tents.
Look at this, guys.
This place is huge.
Oh, gorgeous.
Good work, chocolate.
Yay.
Thank you.
After a day of hiking, this is what you want.
When we checked in, they were like,
at four o'clock, would you like us
to bring a hot drink into the room?
And we're like, yes, please.
Here you come.
And what did you choose?
Did you choose a coffee?
Did you choose a tea?
What did you choose?
Hot chocolate.
Is this hot chocolate?
And they even made homemade cookies.
Cookies.
Do you want to choose a cookie?
Last time you guys saw us, we had a hot beveragino.
I forgot that.
We all kind of crashed last night.
It is now the morning with another hot beveragino
and come see the view of the mountains.
The Annapurna ranges look so beautiful this morning.
We have just woken up to the most beautiful view
of the mountains behind me.
What a morning.
Please, can you just get like AI
to put the view that we're meant to have right now, please?
Okay.
AI.
But cheers to waking up in Nepal.
View or no view, it's still amazing.
I'm having coffee delivered to the bedroom.
The best.
And today we only have two hours
hike back down the mountain.
And then we returned to our hotel with the rooftop pool.
And Hunter's very excited about that.
One more thing.
If you're traveling to Nepal with kids,
I recommend this hike.
I feel like it is a easy-ish one for the kiddos.
Don't you think?
I think so, 100%.
Especially if you stay at a place
that delivers coffee in the morning.
I feel like we're gonna be hiking in mist this morning.
I think we are.
Like coming creeping in, well.
All right guys, we are getting ready for the morning.
About to head back down the mountain.
It is about a two-hour walk.
But there's one thing I haven't shown you yet.
And it's something that I haven't wanted Hunter to see.
Just because when we do bring it out,
she will want us to carry her.
You know what I mean?
But she's just been wanting to hike.
This is like her first time.
So yesterday she hiked eight kilometers.
But she might need it today.
But anyway, it is this bad boy.
It's by trail magic.
Goes this way around.
If you have a hiking bag,
this basically connects to your hiking bag
and you can carry your kids.
I think it is such a genius idea.
So you just connect it with the little clip-o's
on one side of your bag.
Goes like that.
And then these bits clip through this.
And then you can tie them in.
Your kiddos sit in this.
I think it's so clever.
Rather than having to carry around like a big carrier.
And it can-
Can I go in it?
Should we have a test?
Yeah, I'll go.
Can I go in the hike?
Oh.
Interesting idea.
Bye.
Are you ready?
You've been doing very good hiking by yourself though,
haven't you?
Yes.
We've been very proud of you.
Look at this.
It's like bringing back to when you were a baby.
I'm sure I'm doing this wrong.
She's in it.
Hunter, it feels like you're a baby again.
Let me tighten these.
Tighten me up, dad.
Okay, one, two, three.
Oh, what do you reckon?
Oh my God.
This is so easy to carry her.
Are you kidding?
I'm going for a hike with my big baby.
Do you love it?
Is it comfy?
What do you reckon?
Does it feel like a little seat?
We can have extra big cuddles.
One, two, three.
Going down the hike.
Going down the mountain with my cuddly baby.
Koa could obviously come into this one too,
but he's so used to his old carrier.
So I feel like we need to come and like,
do a couple of trial runs on this.
But imagine getting to travel with this thing
rather than a big clunky carrier.
To be honest though, it is comfy.
Let's put Koa on the back.
Like, if you need to carry her,
like if she needs help.
Good morning, Koa.
Good morning.
He's doing it.
He's in it.
How good's this?
Look who's snuck in with mama.
Are you loving it?
Yes.
Yes, she is.
She did a good job.
It was another, around eight K's today, I think.
I think you did six.
So you did eight K's yesterday, six today.
Are you proud of yourself?
You should be proud.
And then look at her.
In the little carrier.
It's like she's just a little bubba again, huh?
You feel like you're zero in my tummy,
like a baby?
I think I feel like double zero in your tummy.
You're so cute.
I love you.
You did such a good job though.
I'm very proud of you
for all the hiking you've been doing.
Anyway, we're almost there.
And oh man, I'm ready to jump in a...
Pool.
Yes.
I feel like relaxing in a hammock.
Oh, relax in a hammock.
Get a cold drink.
You know what?
Mommy even might get a cocktail.
Do you want a hot choco?
Okay, I'll split with you
because you're carrying it all the way.
Thanks bubba.
I love mommy's costumes.
You're sweet.
What have you thought of Nepal so far?
Do you like it?
Yeah, I like it when you're carrying this carrier.
It's like a dustbin.
Yeah, but this is not the only bed I love.
I like the hammock and I love the pool.
This is correct.
So I have three things I like.
This is the first thing,
pool's the second,
hammock's the last.
Alrighty guys.
I see the main road.
I think my watch is clocking in seven kilometers
just on the way down.
It's warming up and I think we are all ready
for a nice dip in that pool when we get back to Pokhara.
Daddy!
Alrighty guys.
As you can see, the weather has opened up.
We're saying our goodbyes to Pokhara,
hopping in the Jeep and heading down to Chitwan.
Bye!
Thank you.
All I can say is I'm glad we have
a five hour drive in this weather.
Oh, I know, right?
Then a six hour hike in this weather.
It's amazing.
I feel like here in Nepal, when it rains, it pours.
That's why they call it monsoon.
Well, we're not in monsoon season yet,
but it's the beginning.
It's like the beginning, just the beginning.
So we've been very lucky with that weather.
We've got either a tennis court or a lake room.
Wow, look at the roads.
So everyone, it is about four hours later
since we left Pokhara,
and we were just going over such interesting roads.
And the pool is so nice!
The pool is so nice!
Yeah, we just checked into our hotel,
but the roads were just insane.
There were so many that were under construction.
We just were going through flooded waters.
Luckily, because we have gone
to a completely different area called Chitwan,
where we're going to spend the next two nights at,
the weather is beautiful.
It feels warmer here, a bit more humid,
because we are in the jungle.
But yeah, that journey was interesting.
I'm glad we switched out the bus for a jeep.
Otherwise, I think we would probably still be on the road,
but it's 1.20, and we've just checked
into this beautiful resort,
which we'll show you guys around.
But let's go see our room, and then we can chat more.
Thank you.
Oh, wow.
Oh, wow, that's cool.
Oh, wow.
I want, I want.
Yeah, I want.
Very nice.
So nice, guys.
All right, guys, we've made it to the jungle.
Welcome to Chitwan.
It's such a different environment
to where we started this morning.
And we're going swimming!
And we're about to go swimming,
because that is something that the kids love to do.
Guys, I'll be honest with you,
we are running on like four hours sleep.
It is 5 p.m., we had a big day, little sleep,
and I think this is just gonna be the perfect way
to just revitalize us, is jumping into a semi-cold pool
with a beautiful view.
One, two, three.
You are always up for a swim, Hunter.
We literally arrived, got the run down,
checked out our room, chucked on swimmers,
and we quickly ran over,
because we realized lunch ends at two.
And we just grabbed what we could.
There was some beautiful paneer,
kind of butter masala here.
They had so many different things,
but I was just grabbing what I could before it closes.
Really good we could still eat, right?
Because usually check-in is 3 p.m.
So, we just grabbed a plate of food,
and there was this beautifully heated pool
surrounded by the jungles in front of us.
And it just feels so strange,
being here right now on the same day,
where our mornings started misty in the mountains.
We're in humid jungle.
All right, where's our jungle bathroom?
Guys, we're in a jungle,
and I found something special.
You did it!
This jungle.
What's so cool?
I'll show you in the bathroom.
There's everything cool.
There's a jungle toilet,
there's jungle water and plants,
and jungle towels,
jungle sink,
and jungle shower.
That's so cool.
Today is definitely about the shock
that this is Nepal, but very cool.
Having a little outdoor shower.
See, come out here.
And it's a skylight in the shower.
Look at all this.
Little jungle shower.
That's what we're calling it.
Oh, there we go.
Nice.
Ah.
How cool.
Look at the jigsaw.
Where do you want to go?
In the very back?
Okay.
Do you want to go in now?
Hi.
Interesting.
So they've taken us to a local village.
It's only five minutes away from where we're staying.
And you see all their,
a lot of the houses actually
are still built the traditional way.
So it's with the bamboo and the mud
and the cow dung mix.
And then look, you can see the traditional homes.
Oh, and they've done paintings.
Yeah, really interesting to see how they live.
I've seen there's like three types of areas in Nepal.
It's like the mountains and the hills
and then the flatlands.
That's where we're at right now.
Yeah, I actually didn't even know
that there was like jungles and forests in Nepal.
No, neither.
I think of Nepal, I think of mountains.
Exactly.
So it's so nice when you come out
and you're like, oh wow, there's like so much variety.
The kids are loving just running around.
There's a lot of kids in the villages too.
So our first look, I guess, at the national park.
We've just entered and we've come to watch the sunset
over the river.
And he said, crocodiles live in the river.
And this is where we're going to be coming tomorrow
for our safari to go look for wildlife.
Very, very beautiful.
The weather's just perfect out here today.

Thanks so much for watching guys.
Good morning, everybody.
It's the next day and it is always amazing.
I don't know if you can hear it
waking up to the sounds of the jungle.
But today with an activity,
we thought we'd let the kids sit this one out
cause we're gonna go canoeing in a very small canoe
down that river, which we spend sunset on.
So it's on our canoe.
Hopefully we can get up and close to these crocodiles
and anything else that's living in that river.
So we've just come out to the river
and our guide was just giving us some facts about the river.
It is spring water river.
So it comes from the ground,
which means it has a constant warm temperature
throughout the year,
which means it is a good habitat for the crocodiles.
There are two crocodiles here that live in here.
One is endangered, critically endangered crocodile
because it lives off the fish of the spring water
in this river we're going into.
And of course with modern day pollution,
it's habitat is getting more and more endangered,
but we're going to go into a dugout canoe.
It is made from a single magnolia tree,
just one trunk and they dig it out for us.
And we're gonna go and enjoy the nature.
I'll probably chat to you guys after the ride.
So just take it in, hear the birds, see what we can spot.
Wow. What a canoe ride.
We still got a few more days here in Nepal,
but I think that was my favorite thing we have done so far.
That was amazing.
It was so quiet.
It was so peaceful.
All right guys,
it's now a few hours later,
I realized the kiddos distracted me.
They ran up.
They were very excited to see you.
They woke up in the morning.
They're like, where's dad?
So I was like on a canoe,
looking at a rhino when I showed them the picture.
Speaking of that, can't believe it.
We saw an armored rhino,
which I've never seen in my life.
Just having a snooze,
cooling down by the river.
These rhinos, they don't have the sweat glands.
That's why in the hot days,
they need to go in water to cool down.
I mean, that was just peak safari moment right there.
Being in a canoe and so close to a rhino was just incredible.
It's going to be hard to top that.
But we might be topping it
because now it is a couple of hours later
and it's time for the kids and mum
to come and see some animals.
And so we're going to be jumping in the Jeep this time,
heading into the national park.
Fingers crossed we see,
okay, I really want to see a tiger.
I've never seen a tiger in the world before.
So that's on my list.
So we'll see if we get lucky.
If we don't, that's okay.
I'm just saying, I'm putting it in the universe
that that's what I'm hoping for.
Let's hope we see it.
Okay, we just finished.
It was like four and a half hours on safari.
We have a little piggy bus here.
It looks so good.
So yes, we just finished a four and a half hour safari
and it was incredible.
We got so close to one of the armoured rhinos.
It was incredible.
And we could just see it like munching away on the grass.
Oh my goodness, we're so close.
We're like three metres away from the rhino.
What do you see?
What do you see, Karma?
What animal is that one?
A rhino?
He's eating the grass.
That's grass.
Steve, it's so cute.
And then we saw a bunch of like monkeys, deer.
We even saw a sloth bear run across the road.
We didn't capture it, but I've never seen that before
which was really cool.
No tigers, but the driver did say
that he could smell tiger wee, like the urine.
And so we said one was probably close by
which I think is pretty cool
that the drivers know the scent of that.
Cheers.
But it is almost dinner time.
But as you can see, we're in our robes
because the kids did so good in the jeep
and it's so hot today.
It's like 30 degrees.
It's probably still 30 now, even though the sun's gone.
So we're gonna go and jump in the pool
and have our picnic.
Hunter went and grabbed all the little bits
that she found in our room.
There was a couple of juice boxes, a choccy bar, some apples.
All right, Cole's run to the pool.
We're running to the pool, let's go.
Let's have some chocolate to celebrate.
To celebrate?
What are we celebrating?
For coming to the pool at night.
For a big safari.
And for having a big safari.
We just have one of those days
where you feel like it's gonna be, you know,
just a mundane day.
Didn't even bother picking up the cameras.
And then of course chaos happened.
So this morning we were leaving from Chitwan
all the way to Kathmandu and it's about a seven hour drive.
And we thought, oh, this is gonna be seven hours in a car.
We'll leave the cameras aside.
We can film when we're in Kathmandu.
On the way, what was like the first five hours, Steve?
The first five hours was so unbelievably bumpy
and so windy.
I can see why they recommend getting around in a Jeep.
But poor Cole was so car sick.
He vomited so much.
It was all over him.
It was all over me.
So by the time we arrived at this hotel,
I was like, oh my goodness,
I just need to get to the room.
We just smelt so bad.
But then this hotel is so beautiful and so kind.
We got there.
They wanted to do like a welcoming ceremony.
And I'm just there being like, oh my goodness,
oh my goodness.
Like trying to get all freshened up
to do the welcome ceremony.
Yes, please.
Thank you so much.
Oh, wow.
Thank you.
Oh, thank you so much.
Oh, perfect.
Namaste.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Namaste.
Welcome ceremony.
But we are now in our room.
We've all had showers.
We are now back in Kathmandu
and this place is so beautiful.
It's like a heritage building.
So they haven't done much to the place.
So it's very beautiful.
Like, you know, no elevators.
And the lady that checked us in held Hunter's hand
and took her up the stairs.
It was so sweet.
But one cool thing I want to show you,
kind of random,
but I thought it was cool,
is that when I was in the shower,
I want to show you how they give you
your shampoo and conditioner.
Look at this.
It's in like little pots.
How cute is that?
That's like little pots of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
I just thought that was really cute.
But anyway.
I finished the game.
You finished the game?
Hunter's very excited.
We're going to play this.
I'll show you guys tomorrow at brekkie.
But they have a Nepalese game
that we've never played before.
So we're going to have a go at that.
But most importantly is we just ordered room service
because it's 4 p.m.
and we haven't eaten
because Cole was vomiting
and it all made us not have an appetite.
And then we got here
and then we were so starving.
So we've ordered some food
and then in an hour,
we're going to do a cooking class.
So they were saying for dinner,
do you want to have dinner
or do you want to do a cooking class?
And they need dinner that way.
And I was like, yes,
cooking class sounds so good, right Hunter?
Was the car chaos?
Here's a defeated dad on the floor eating room service.
We were that hungry.
We were like, just dump it.
And we didn't even set it up.
We're just going at it.
Oh my goodness.
Guys, this is the expectations.
Sometimes you set up a super nice place
but you're just eating room service on the floor.
Yeah.
But oh man, I'm hungry.
I ordered the noodles.
Let's see.
Where's my noodles?
Big noodle reveal.
Right, I think this is a big,
I think this is Hunter's dinner reveal.
Oh no, that's not Hunter's.
What, what was that?
What is that?
Mine is ice cream.
It was brownie.
How are we going to eat after this
and then do we have a cooking class?
Mate, I haven't eaten in
I know, we're about to.
Seven to eight hours.
All right guys, don't judge me.
I know I'm having gnocchi in Nepal.
Eat it, eat it, eat it.
It's so good.
But it is with yak cheese, so you can give me that.
We've been having such good food in Nepal
but when you haven't eaten all day,
you just want some comfort food.
Okay, I went for veggie noodles,
but they are so spicy.
Hello.
Thank you.
Hi.
Oh wow, this is cool.
Wow.
Look, this is where we're going to be
cooking our food today.
We're proper chefs tonight.
What a setting.
We're cooking on a rooftop with these views.
We're like in the heart of the city right now.
All these homes all surrounding us.
So beautiful.
And the temple I think I'm seeing tomorrow morning.
It's just out there.
So nice.
Are you ready for your course?
Oh yes, yes.
So this is our first course.
So welcome Saga.
We try our first dish?
Yeah.
And start with Ella.
Ella is basically Niwari beverage.
Same like sake.
So Japanese sake.
Okay.
You love this stuff.
We need to give you double shots.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Whoa.
Woo.
Nice.
That is strong.
Okay, let's cheers this first
before we start cooking then.
Are we ready?
You should go for this.
You can smell it.
So cheers.
Oh, how do you say cheers in Niwari?
Oh, you just say cheers.
All right, cheers.
Cheers.
Oh, it smells so strong.
This is the traditional alcohol they drink.
Yeah, you can smell it if you want.
So first of all, you have this one Ella
and second you have to take this one budge.
Oh, you meant to have this
and then you meant to eat the egg.
So this is like a traditional welcoming,
like you can smell it.
Smell it.
Are you ready?
Smell.
That's it.
You reckon?
So this whole cooking class
is where learning how to cook
like traditional Niwari people.
A way that they welcome you into your home
is you have a sip of this
and then you eat this egg
and it represents the five elements
that I've already had a sip of this.
I don't feel like another one.
I've had my sip.
You've had your sip.
I've had my sip, right?
All right, let's eat the egg.
Let me have the egg.
Oh, it smells good.
That's very nice.
Very good.
Yeah, that's very good.
So divide it.
So we want a small river fish
and a small boat.
It's very good.
Very careful because it's hot.
Okay, ready?
Okay.
Good job.
And another one.
So do one more.
One more and this.
It looks like kind of like a lentil pancake.
He described it like we were making a Niwari pizza
with a lentil base.
It smells so good.
Are you going to go hide?
All right, she's hiding
because she doesn't trust daddy,
which is a fair call.
Want a sour?
Sour and fancy, right?
Good job, Steve.
That was a good one.
Oh, Hunter, you're brave.
And another one.
So round round.
Oh, it's so hot, though.
What's with your face?
Because it's so hot.
I'm a good cook, right?
Yeah.
Daddy, daddy.
Oh, Kawa's eating the sauce.
It's yogurt.
Do you like that?
You just ate all my sauce.
She just saw it, yes.
Do you like it?
So this is called Barra.
If you ever go to a Niwari restaurant
and you're looking for this,
it's called Barra.
And it is like a lentil pancake almost.
And normally you put grind meat on top.
But we're just trying it like this.
And I reckon this is gonna be yummy.
This is the most popular dish in Niwari.
Oh, is it?
The most popular one in the city.
So you can find this in a lot of the restaurants.
Yes, ma'am.
That is so good, Steve.
So good.
Are you kidding me?
Yum.
The hummus is so good.
Yeah?
This is very good.
You try a bit, ma'am.
I like this and this together.
Every hotel here in Nepal has been so kind to the kids.
It's amazing when you're in a country
that's like family first.
We're currently just having our second course.
And we're watching the kids.
So we're now cooking something called Chata Mari.
It's like a rice flour crepe.
And you said it's mainly eaten during festivals?
Yes, ma'am.
Oh, watch.
It's gonna flip.
Ready?
Oh, hot.
Here we go.
More?
Okay, ready?
Yes.
See you guys.
Good job, Noah.
Are you helping?
Yeah.
They're cooking.
Oh, thank you, Noah.
Good job.
What is that you did?
White cream sauce.
This is white cream sauce.
White cream sauce?
It's like that.
Super fancy, super yummy.
You just realize you're not a chef
and you can't plate things as fancy as this guy is.
Ready?
You made that one.
Is it good?
Yeah.
Good job.
Did you just say no?
Such a fun way to have dinner with the kids too.
It's just like all interactive.
It keeps the kids entertained.
This guy's enjoying his masterpiece.
And he cooked that one all by himself.
Good job, bud.
Crispy, ricey taste.
Cause it's rice flour, I think.
But then the stuff you put inside is so good.
Yeah, I was looking at the actual chef, not us.
Plate this up and I realized that I am just
not someone for presentation.
The way he just like opened it up with his black gloves
and his little utensils, placing down the mushrooms
and then the salad on top, the sauce,
and then getting a little prick of garnish on top.
And I was like, mate, when I do things at home,
it doesn't look like that.
He's shoving it in his mouth.
He loves it.
Is it so good?
No.
Dude, you're saying one word, but you do another thing.
You've made momos?
So momos is most popular.
Flashbacks to when we made momos at-
A local's house.
You make it look so easy.
Well, you've had practice now.
Okay, let's see.
Also, see, you've not been allowed to make the dough.
No.
Mama's making the dough for us.
Yeah, mama's making the dough.
We're making like circle momos here.
Hunter, you've got to try and make one of these.
So Hunter, you hold this one in your hand.
Okay.
Cola, did you want to help make a momo?
Oh, yours looks good.
Thank you.
Yeah, good job.
The chef's face just said, oh, she got that inside.
Good job, Hunter.
Good job.
Guys, I need you to try guess
which one's the professional one.
It's not this one.
Mine.
It's yours.
We're learning how to make the dessert.
It's called yomari, and it starts with rice flour.
Is that chocolate or not?
Oh, I'm not sure.
Oh, we've got to make it into a circle like this.
Good.
Making into a circle.
Yum.
Okay.
How's your circle going, bud?
It's pretty good.
So we're making like a point.
Okay, you have mine, and I'll move to the next bit.
Ready?
Okay, okay, Cola help.
This is Cola's helpful creation.
Yep, yep, you did it perfect.
Oh, we're making a big hole.
Do you see?
Look at her hole.
Is that chocolate?
Oh, I'm not sure what that is.
I think this is jaggery.
Good.
Okay, now mommy will put some in hers.
So let me fill it up.
Close it?
Yeah, close it.
The whole thing?
Yeah.
So we're going to squeeze it closed.
Yeah?
Okay, that's all.
Oh.
Amazing.
Want to see it?
Here we go.
Look at that absolutely perfect momo.
That looks like Hunter's momo.
Alrighty, our favorite dish.
Momos, the best thing you can have in the Himalayas.
We started with them in Bhutan,
and they followed us here to Nepal.
Probably sick of hearing us talking about them,
but I love them.
Uh-huh.
The sauce it's bathing in, it's delicious.
Those are the best ones we've had so far.
Wow.
They almost sometimes like pop in your mouth a little bit.
This is our dessert we made, Iomari.
So we've got the base there,
and then we're still working out what's inside it,
but we're all crossing our fingers for chocolate.
It says it's filled with sweet jaggery.
Jaggery and sesame seed.
Jaggery?
Jaggery.
I'll taste it and I'll tell you what jaggery is, okay?
Should mommy try it?
Hot.
It's very hot, can you blow on it for mom?
Like a fruit?
No, jaggery.
What is jaggery?
It's, it's jaggery.
Jaggery is jaggery.
A sugar.
It's almost like, hear me out.
It's not the same, but hear me out.
Mince pie for Christmas filling.
Yes.
Without the like cinnamon and the, the raisins.
Natalie's mince pie.
How would you rate this out of 10?
Well, 100 plus 100,
and the inside of jaggery, zero plus 10,
and the yogurt, 100 plus 100,
plus 100 plus 100, plus 100.
I can see that that got the best score.
So we've already polished our first one off,
and we'll do our second one.
Koa gives this 100 out of 100 out of 100, I think.
Do you want more?
A big hug.
Good morning, everybody.
Woken up nice and early in the morning.
It's like six in the morning,
because here in Bhaktapal,
we are very close to a temple,
and there's a lot of morning rituals
that go on in the morning.
So I just watched a ritual happen at our hotel.
I was blessed in the morning,
and now we're walking through the streets
to see these rituals at the temple.
So currently walking the streets of Bhaktapal,
there's about three major temples here,
and my little guide for the morning
was just explaining what a typical morning
looks like for the locals here.
So they wake up about 4.35,
and they clean their house,
and after five, they head to the markets
to get a little offering.
So I saw a fresh milk shop
from the surrounding fields that people are picking up.
You know, rice and vegetables,
and then they head to the temples
to make their blessings,
and it's kind of what we're experiencing this morning.
It is, of course, bucketing down with rain,
so the streets are empty,
which, of course, is probably an extra sight
to see in a place that probably has
tons of people walking around normally.
Now we've come to the second main square,
and just in front of us is the tallest temple here in all,
which is amazing.
It's five stories high, just towering over,
but that's very cool,
but they just had a festival,
and part of this festival
had these crazy big carts for the festival,
and they've left them here,
and they are just towering over me,
and now I need to look up some footage
to see how this festival looked,
because this, this is humongous.
I can't even imagine what pulled this,
but it is intricately put together,
and it's kind of just been left here.
It almost looks a little bit like ruins,
but it's toppling over.
I think the wheel's fallen off.
Like, wow, this is amazing,
but of course, the temple as well is incredible.
So this morning, we've just come next door
to this tiny little restaurant,
and they're cooking our breakfast right in front of us.
They just served us all these things.
Hunter's playing a Nepalese board game
that we found in our room.
It's very fun, isn't it?
It smells so good.
Yeah, as well.
I know, it's just us and them.
It's so nice, and at the moment, they're cooking us,
what's it called again?
The Nuwari bread.
Yeah, Nuwari bread.
It is called Gwara Mari.
So gwara means round, mari means bread.
It's round bread.
It smells so good, and we've got some masala chai.
Cheers.
Good morning.
Definitely fed us very well at this hotel.
It's been so nice.
The kids are loving it.
Water buffalo yogurt for breakfast.
Colin's like eaten all of his.
Good work, Hunter.
So what do you have to do?
So one of us is the...
Tiger, but when all the goats run,
it won't let him move the goats.
But when a tiger jumps over a goat,
they are gobbled up.
And what happens when the goat jumps over a tiger?
It gobbles up.
Uh-huh.
Tigers versus the goat.
Yeah, I think it's kind of like...
Checkers?
A little bit like checkers.
You have to place all your goats down first
before the goats can surround the tigers.
And if the goats surround the tiger,
the tiger is gone.
And then the tiger has to hop over like checkers
to gobble up the goats.
We call it gobbling up.
Gobbling up.
It's very fun.
I want to get one and bring it home now.
Me too.
It's a very easy game for anyone to learn.
And a good little like conversation starter.
Hot, hot, hot, hot.
Very hot.
Here, let me check the bottom ones.
Hot and ouchy.
Ooh, is that the duck egg?
Good morning, everybody.
It is our final day here in Nepal.
And we've come out to this beautiful monastery.
Jess is currently packing our bags.
We're about to head out to the airport.
I'm about to watch the morning rituals
here at this monastery.
They've allowed me to come and film inside here,
but I hope you guys enjoyed this incredible Nepal series.
It absolutely blew us away.
See you guys with a brand new adventure next time.
Thanks so much.
Okay, thank you so much.
