selfcare part is I think one of the major parts yeah they how you put it
your inside how you feeling on the inside starts to express on the outside so if you
are very uny in here if you are unsettled in here if you are just on edge all the
time then you're out of responses and your environment becomes like
that
[Music] super welcome to Super entrepreneurs podcast I'm your host Shahid danani today we
have with us Dr Tori Ellis Dr Ellis is a transformational life and business coach
focusing on the mom behind the business Welcome to our show thank you for having me how are you
doing today I'm doing wonderful thank you so much it's great to have you I checked your
profile I see what you're doing and the blend of Entrepreneurship and Hip-Hop culture sounds
fascinating by the way yeah can you share how you got into that to be honest with you that
book came from one of my Capstone classes for my masters my professor asked us to create a book on
everything that we had learned mented during our masters and I decided to infuse it with hip-hop
because that was also a love of mind the hip-hop culture of course there's so much entrepreneurship
so much businesses that you can see within that culture so I infused it and um once I submitted
my whole book he said to you need to publish this and then I went on to publish it and it
became bestselling in IO psychology on Amazon yeah that's how I got here with this book and
then the name of the book spark my company mhm so how do you think that this Fusion between the two
hip-hop and Entrepreneurship actually fuels Innovation and creativity in in the business
World in hip-hop culture you already know that the artists who are a part of it they're creatives but
some of them are Independent Artists some of them come from Big labels but that means that
they have to Market themselves as well and that they have to put their brand out there and they
have to have a brand that they stand by and sck by outside of that too hip-hop culture
also infuses with different Lanes of business you have technology that it infuses with just like it
being on Spotify or on title then you have the culture of Hip Hop with the way they dress so
you have brand names like rockware or Shan John who are from actual hip hop artist as well they
created those Brands they infused it with Kuma or Nike they have those cross s and then you think
about just the business behind it as well you have yourr Department you have your big record
labels and then each one of them have a agreement with the amount of CDs or the amount of albums
that these artists are able to create and actually fulfill their duty of their contracts so literally
it can break down in so many different ways and cross so many different Avenues of business that
hipop culture can be exposed to and has exposed everybody too so that's how I I viewed it and just
thought outside the box and created it that way nice is there any specific lessons entrepreneurs
can learn from it of course of course book I talk about a plethora of stuff outside of it
I talk about the leadership aspect of business and if you are a business when you are creating it you
have to lead your mission right so I talk about the leadership aspect of it the different forms
of leadership and how those leadership forms can affect your internal and external customers your
internal customers being your employees then I talk about the importance of having those strong
team building those strong trust and collaboration with those internal customers but also with your
external customers because if you want a product or a service to continue to sell or to continue
to be profitable you want loyal customers too and you want them to feel as if their voice is being
heard and everyone's needs change over time so if you can adjust and create products that is needed
for your clients or needed for your customers and still aligned with your business model and that's
a way that you're now catering to your audience and outside of that too the Occupational Health
aspect of it it's making sure that everyone is full and healthy and a well-being state so happy
employees are healthy employees which means that they're going to produce ton there we go
be super productive so even bringing attention to ergonomics or just bring attention to their mental
state of being as well you have to think that some values from some of your employees may change over
time depending if their life changes maybe someone got married recently maybe someone has a child
recently so their time and read available may be a little bit different but with that then how do you
structure your business to help those employees feel like they're heard they're safe but also
they're valued so that's in the book it's all of it in the book so you have transformed businesses
including your own Ventures can you share any strategies or any mindset shifts that helped in
that process most definitely so I would say one of the biggest things I live and go by a transform a
transformational leadership style and the reason why I say that is because when I'm working with
people I don't say that I have employees that work for me I have people that I work with everyone has
a specific Niche a specific talent and strength that maybe I do not have that adds value so when
you're working with businesses or other business owners it's pulling out those strengths from their
employees as well and getting them to recognize those too and outside of that it's just allowing
them to see hey if your mission is to be in this Lane your mission is to help other people your
listen your mission is to change or make change in your community or say in the environment then now
you have you want to make sure that your mission is always aligned as you grow being authentically
you I always say that is one of the quotes I live by be authentically you your audience is
out there the people that is meant to receive you are going to receive you and when they do that is
now creating a stronger Community then you can ask for from someone who just probably coming in for
a onetime shop and then not coming back again so it's literally just you know I had a guess in the
past he was saying instead of chasing butterflies why not create a garden and let the butterflies
come so in the same sense he meant yeah he I loved it too I it's stuck in my head uh David der Derlin
I believe he's a artist out of New York but I believe he meant it towards more on the Law of
Attraction side as well but in this case even when you're out there doing your thing you can't make
everyone happy and when you just be yourself and you're authentic you're going to get the people
that resonate with you for the time being and and that's okay you don't need to have everyone
yeah I feel like it's important to realize I say if I'm able to change and help one person that
means I'm able to leave a mark it doesn't have to be the masses but one person that person can then
go and change a ton of people or help a ton of people it just depends on how you're viewing it
you can either be the massive change or you can be just that subtle change that is going to help
the masses later on you never know just like how teachers are teachers help each kid one at a time
they may go through different different children or different students that they have one of those
students may go to change the world one of those students go to be Innovative in that way but
then you have some students who may be like hey school's not for me and they can probably go on
entrepreneur jury or they could become artists but you have created a mindset in them or shifted them
they are realizing that passion and however it the chips may fall for them then yeah definitely
yeah no that's awesome and Dr Ellis even for what you do for example because it's transformational
and when you work with someone you don't know what you're uncovering in them there could be something
that just takes them in a completely different direction or they might create such a Quantum Leap
in their life that they have no idea what happened because of that transformation so you don't know
every student or every client that you work with you don't know which where they're going to go
either and because they're so unique you touch on those qualities and as you get to understand
your client and your client's needs then it's okay you tailor the program for them you tailor
helping them to fit how they are some are visual Learners some are audio learners but you do that
and then you may unlock a whole another creative side of them you may unlock something that they
probably forgot from years ago that they love to do and then now it's like all the bells are are
chirping and the flame is lit again and you just never know but that's part of the transmissional
part of it yeah best is Yeah because sometimes individual might not even know what they want
and it's a very common trait amongst entrepreneurs we go into business we work hard we want to grow
we want to do something we want to leave a mark but with mentorship you at times uncover what you
truly want and that's when you connect it to your passion that's where everything changes action
doesn't become action anymore it just becomes fun when work doesn't become work it's just fun you're
just flowing with it you're just going in that direction doesn't even phase you what the results
are just so passionate about what you're doing and then the results actually complement that energy
because it's so organic it's so organic when they get into that flow instead of chasing the
dollar they're really just living in their purpose living their passion and if you're chasing dollar
it's typical like you're on the hamster wheel and who wants to be on the hamster wheel especially
when you're doing something that you love to do yeah and unfortunately it happens when we go into
business know we don't really tend to want the money it's just the freedom the money is just
the thing that we want the dollar but we want actually want the freedom they've done a lot of
research on and they interviewed a lot of people on the streets and to find out why you going to
business and money is just obviously it's a tool but the end goal is the freedom but even for that
freedom when you start chasing something and when you start forcing something it feels like it goes
further away from you but when you become in alignment when you become in that flow then
it just feels like it starts becoming your friend it depends on what direction it guides you to but
it guides you through the river and it's always better to go on the flow than go against it having
resist and you have the frustration and that over feeling kicks and listen and a lot of times people
don't even realize that we as entrepreneurs you want the freedom but in the very beginning
especially those first five years the freedom is not coming from the time because you have to put
so much more time into your business than typical 9 to5 so it's like you are so consumed with it and
I feel like you said when you go on the flow and you love what you're doing that time doesn't seem
like it matters it's just like I'm loving what I'm doing I'm just doing it and it's just it's
becoming this big Masterpiece and people miss that idea sometimes cuz then get so consumed
in just a time I don't have as much freedom but literally it's your fre to create and and that's
the most beautiful thing ever yeah yeah I talk to entrepreneurs I say that it's great that you're
going into business you want to launch something you have a startup you have an idea you want to
support your family you want to do great things and you want to make a difference but how do you
feel because when we don't invest the time and money into ourselves first it just becomes very
chaotic on the outside because we don't have that stability that Foundation when you buy a house you
have that Foundation same thing I always highly recommend that if you're going in this direction
which is not a pretty Direction it looks glamorous when you see success stories but the journey to
success is is not pretty and you need a pretty uh good foundation to to handle it and if you
don't a lot of people give up but if they don't give up then they're unhealthy and is doing a
number on their physical health they call it the grind that let's go but it kicks you in the butt
over time so most definitely the self-care part is I think one of the major parts yeah they how
you put it your inside how you feeling on the inside starts to express on the outside so if
you are very uny in here if you are unsettled in here if you are just like on edge all the time
then you're out of responses and your environment becomes like that it's the same way you say people
depression sometimes they get so depress so down their outer experience look clutter because all
in he clutter too so literally is an expression of your outer so that selfcare piece super important
it's super important and people I feel like people need to lead into that more often than
not like those before your body sit you down you need to probably sit down so that way you can get
up and do what you got to do a little bit faster once your body sit you down have a while yeah so
true my late Mentor used to say that if you want to find out what's happening in someone's inner
world just take a look at their car or their office or their desk or their home it will
tell you what's happening the car will be very messy for example it reflects the inside with
a mirror effect it's probably one of the most like you said the most important component in a
human being's life to create that flow because at the end of the day don't you want the Fulfillment
now and not wait till you get it you work towards okay once I get there I'll be fulfilled but the
funny thing is by the time you get there there's something else that's bugging you and you want to
get done and it's not that it wasn't that and there's a lot of success stories that I'm now
like but I don't get that feeling what are you really chasing like you want the feeling that's
what you want you want that feeling is after complish something you want that feeling I say
create that feeling now and then operate from that place because a feeling makes your body move in an
an action where it would be with ease with ease or disease why not have it at ease so you could
produce better results most definitely and just to piggy bag off of that that that EXP the with
ease instead of disease literally the disease is your body just not at ease at all like a lot of
things form from your body being uneasy a lot of things form that can have a long-term detriment
on your body just from you not taking care of yourself from the very beginning so how are
you going to enjoy the end result if you're not healthy during this process because now get the
end result but then now you have to counteract and you are not you weren't proactive so you're active
and now you got to get your body to just be able to enjoy it and I feel like I tell everybody you
can't pour from an empty cup you're not going to show up and be present at your best self for
anybody else if you're not feeling your best self you have to pour into you much as you want to pour
into everybody else and it's pivotal that's the people in business entrepreneurs that's people in
everyday life like you have to take that time to pour into yourself it's so imperative yeah
yeah it's so important and every human beings generally they they want good for other human
beings just natural we just we have this caring compassion within us some is more active some
because of the outside impact on the inside so outside in way of being creates uneasiness but
it's there compassion is there specific some people in their life they're very compass but
if you start clearing that up that clutter you start bringing that care and compassion out to
everyone is it possible yeah it is possible when you start doing that when you start looking for
good and everything can you just imagine what it does on your health like you said placebo effect
I don't know if you researched placebo effect have you yeah I have yeah especially had to
things with that yeah people it's a it's a mind shift yeah it's incredible there's stories from
in war they ran out of morphine they were giving salt water I believe injections and the patients
thought they got morphine they were doing actual surgeries not feeling the pain that's the power
that we have the gifts that we have as human beings so why not bring that out in your life
bring it out in your life now where you start creating that belief that yeah you're capable
of doing certain things and capable of having really good health the mind is a powerful thing
and I feel like people recognize or realize how strong their mind is and the effect was definitely
a testament to that you can definitely see how if you had thought that you got something or you
thought you were feeling something and you strong believed in it then literally the outer outcome
of it was yeah I got that this is how I'm feeling I'm perfectly fine you didn't get it but you see
how your mind is so strong people under estimate the mind a lot they really do yeah it's so true I
could share a personal story with my left knee it was so bad that I couldn't even step on stairs at
times it was just a really icky that's one of my favorite terms icky feeling in my left knee that
it was very painful it was uncomfortable all the time so I still have family members come
up to me now and say how's your knee that's how bad it was everybody knew about it and I just
started focusing and appreciating the right knee I just started F you know focusing on through my
own personal transformation I went through I didn't even realize over time it's been years
now I didn't have a pain there it's not like I sit there I so am I getting a pain no with time
it just dissipated in my mind and in the physical I jog now I'm running I'm I'm doing squats and I
don't know what it is I wanted to do surgery so it has to be the placebo effect probably started like
UNC conciously changing up certain things to help your body too way you thought yeah and the way you
eat and the way you just talk talking to yourself makes a big difference so you probably changed so
many different things and did not even realize and had this overall and it's a beautiful thing
I love that yeah I'm so happy for you on that yeah thank you so much there's a few other things too
and I'm still working on certain things but now you get a hang of it once you start getting a a
hint of the the the gifts that you have once you start experiencing those gifts in real life you
actually experiment yourself not someone's telling you hey do this and you'll get this happened when
you start seeing those things happen in your life that's when the true magic happens that's when you
realize wow there's something incredible here then you start looking at life differently now
you say okay wait a minute I'm not alone there's something phenomenal happening all around me that
I'm not aware of that my senses can't pick up but there's forces that I can't explain that kind of
realization that kind of feeling that you gained you can start doing some great things it's it's
very reaffirming it's like a reaffirming like it's reaffirming you that you're on the right path like
you said once you start with one it starts to spiral down to the next and not everyone's way
of doing things is always the right way for you so you start learning yourself more and I feel like
once you start to learn yourself more too that changes the because you know what you don't like
what you like what up what makes you feel good and then you can start doing those things that really
just fill your cup and really fill your bucket for the day and that becomes in your bucket for
the month for the year and it just changed the whole perspective definitely oh I love that yes I
I definitely attest to that yes yes yeah no that's great we say that switch your focus from outside
to side it's very simple to say it requires a lot of work it requires mentorship but possible
to change that Paradigm to live from inside out because once you make that shift over time you
take your power back period that's it take back and at the same time too it's like also your how
you're all the things that proberbly had limited you before all the things that probably had that
impostor syndrome or the things that affected your mental inex State what other people think
traumas those traumas from years ago that she probably didn't fully healed from but you just
blocked out that's blocking you still when you go Inward and you're able to see all of that and
recognize all of that a lot of that times too is you just acknowledging how you felt that moment
and feeling through it and then with the tools and understanding like hey during that time I
didn't have these specific tools but I had what I needed to get into the point point I'm at now
and I just started adding more tools into my tool box and it's okay that I wasn't okay back then but
it's even better that I'm feeling better and okay now and it's just that transformation of mindset
of hey the past is the past but it was definitely a learning point it was definitely a point of me
just learning myself more understanding myself more and now I'm here to be like I'm not upset
about my past I'm not mad about it I'm grateful for it and gratitude goes a long understanding
yeah yes yes that inner inner standing that inner standing for sure inner standing cool yeah I like
that this first time I heard that in can I use it you definitely can I always try to give credit if
I remember but wow that's a cool term you know what I could talk about this stuff forever and
I'll love for you to come back on the show Dr Tori Ellis this information I could speak about it for
days but other otherwise when you're not speaking about it you just keep it within and you're in
Stillness you're quiet and some people say like why are you so quiet it used to be so exciting I
said I still am but I'm that way inside but yeah that Stillness it creates heaven on Earth I feel
yes so I really appreciate your time today do keep in touch if there's any final words you would like
to share please go ahead I want to say thank you to you for this platform and this opportunity and
this conversation I would love to come back and speak more CU we could get into this for
days like I have oh yeah stories and everything so we can definitely do that but be awesome for
your listeners we're gonna do that we're gonna definitely do that but for your lers let's do
it the one thing I would say before I part would be look within so that way you can create your
outer experience at the highest vibration that you imagine and never limit your imagination
always think far what your wildest Things Are love it love it beautiful ending thank you so
much I appreciate you and I really mean it do come back again we could continue the chat and
also I love stories we all love stories we we have a platform to amplify those stories and
change more lives so I appreciate your time keep in touch and thank you so much thank
you
[Music] super super
