DIY Off Grid Cabin Build - Episode 26

it's been a couple of weeks since I've been out to the cabin and this is how far I got the last time I was there and I do have enough siding to finish out the front of the cabin but I'm gonna have to do I'm gonna have to prepare a lot more siding to uh go around the other sides and I just wanted to take you through what I did to prepare the siding for the cabin questions foreign so the first thing that I did was I got a torch attachment for a propane tank and I went over the front side of each of the planks and burned the surface kind of like a shashugi bond and after that I got some Redwood Timber oil and uh gave that a couple of coats and that soaked into the wood and and so that's why I had to give up more than one coat but I think it looks really nice it's the same color that I used when I did my fence in the backyard and I think it's going to go well with the trim which I'm using true Brown for the trim it's really really dark brown it's almost black [Music] and here you can see the difference in the finished and the unfinished so you can see how it's all charred up on the right and then on the left you can see uh with the timber oil looks like over the jar like I said I think this is going to be a good look for the cabin I've already got a lot installed and I think it looks nice so this is pretty much how I uh prepared the siding for the cabin so it's going to be a couple more weeks before I get back out to the cabin so I put together a little simulation just so that you can kind of see what my vision is for the outside so I'm going to take you through that and keep in mind that none of this work has been done yet this is just a simulation [Music] so like I mentioned um I do have enough siding to finish off the front of the cabin and this is uh what that's going to look like before I uh set my trim so in order to cover up the seam that is going to be there with the eight foot planks I'm gonna have a piece of trim that goes down the center of the cabin right up next to the door foreign ER trim that I I've got this already inside the cabin I need to put it together like I did the first one and then I'll get that installed and uh I'll probably uh stain this one before I install it just so that it's easier to work around the siding okay so here I'm putting the trim around the window and I've gone back and forth on whether or not to put a piece of trim down between the two windows but looking at this simulation I kind of like the way that looks so I think I'm gonna go with that I also want to stain the foundation around the bottom you know on the the left and the front and I also want to stain my the outside of my Rafters as well so it's going to kind of create this box look I guess but that is pretty much how the cabin is going to look I am going to continue around the other three sides with the same siding so this will kind of give you an idea of what I'm thinking so this is just a short uh little video that I've put together I only get out to the cabin in a couple days a month so I didn't want to leave you guys hanging so I thought I'd throw this together just to give you an idea of what uh I'm thinking um so I'll be heading back out to the property in a couple of weeks so you'll actually be able to see me doing this but uh this is uh gonna do it for this video so thanks for watching [Music] thank you [Music]
