In this video, I use the Mr. Heater Little Buddy Heater for the first time in my off-grid cabin and check to see if it can sufficiently heat the cabin overnight when the temperature drops below freezing.

all right I'm here at the cabin and uh
I'm getting ready to turn in for the
night um but it's pretty chilly it gets
down to uh in the 30s at night here this
time of year even though it warms up
into the 50s during the day it's pretty
chilly at night so I've got this buddy
heater and this is the Little Buddy
Heater and uh it says that it heats up
to 95 Square
ft and uh this cabin is it's just under
120 ft it's like
116 Square ft but if I uh close off this
back
area um that cuts the square footage
down quite a bit
so so if we take a look
here looks like it gets up to
3800
BTUs one canister if it's full should
last up to 5.6
hours this has a patented
self-extinguishing protection system
that includes a low oxygen sensor and a
temp over protection and that makes this
an indoor safe
heater all right so let's uh open this
guy up we'll take a look inside looks
like we've got our
manual we've got our
base got the heater
itself and uh that is about
it okay I've got this brand new uh tank
propane tank it's a one
PB so all you have to do is screw this
in here on the
bottom get it in there nice and
tight
set it into the
base and uh these things are really easy
to uh turn on all you have to do is push
this red
button and that's how you start the
pilot
light you can see the pilot light is
on and then you have to hold the the red
button down for 30
seconds while it gets nice and primed
primed so I'll hold that
down and then once you let
go of the uh red button that's when
uh when the flame
ignites
okay and you can
see that it has
ignited bring you a little
closer you can
see
that the flame has gone up into the
element and uh I'm starting to feel some
heat come off of
this so the heating
area is out and
up so yeah I can feel a lot of heat
above
it I can actually feel more more heat
above it than in front of it but that's
to be
expected so what I'm going to do is I'm
going to place this in the corner over
here on the
floor and let that heat up the whole
[Music]
cabin and if I can get 5 hours out of
that uh that ought to be pretty good so
I'm going to go ahead and uh turn in and
I'll let you know how it did in the
morning all
right just got up and uh started up
another propane tank so how did it do
last night
well when I got up this morning it was
31°
outside and 56° inside it's gone up a
degree since I started another propane
tank I did get some condensation on the
Windows which is to be expected from uh
propane heat but uh yeah I slept
comfortable all night long and when I
got up it was
56°
so that's not too bad
all right this uh tank is still
running it's been about 3 and 1 half
hours that it's been running and the
temperature outside is gone up to 49 and
71 on the inside so uh yeah that can
definitely Heat this uh small
cabin so I was able to get uh over 5
hours I don't think I quite got 5.6 but
uh probably 5 and
A4 um hours out of a single tank and um
this little buddy heater consistently
kept my cabin between 30 and
35° warmer than the outside temperature
in fact uh during the day uh I actually
had to turn it off and open up a window
in order to cool the cabin off it got so
hot it got up to like 78
degrees so yeah this is as small as it
is um it actually um went beyond the 85
squ ft capacity that it has and uh
heated up my
116t cabin just
fine all right what are some things that
I like about this little buddy heater I
like that it's small and compact it's
lightweight it's easy to move around it
starts really easy and it'll run for
over 5 hours on a single 16 lb uh
propane tank what are some things that I
don't like about the Little Buddy Heater
um I don't like the fact that it uses
the one PB canister as a stand because
that prevents you from being able to
connect this to a 20 lb tank if you
wanted to run it for more than 5 hours
at a time and I also don't like the fact
that there are currently no fans that
will work with this little buddy heater
so you don't have a a method of pushing
that hot air around to heat your cabin
up quicker or your room up
quicker um it takes about 45 minutes for
this to warm up uh my cabin from like
45° up to
65° um that's not that big of a deal but
um if if you want some you know instant
heat you're not going to get that with
this uh little
buddy so what I recommend uh the Little
Buddy Heater uh yes I would it does
exactly what it says it does in fact it
does it better than it says it does so
you know despite uh not being able to
hook it up to a 20 lb tank or the lack
of fan option um I I really like this
little buddy heater and uh I'm going to
use this to heat my cabin um all winter
long so uh if you guys are interested in
