Have the Backs of These Texas Democrats

How about those Texas Democrats? I mean, 56 Democrats left the state of Texas to deny their Republican counterparts the forum necessary to certify these newly drawn congressional districts that were asked for by Donald Trump. He just said in broad daylight, clear as day, find me five Republican seats in the state of Texas. He understands that without these five congressional seats in Texas, he's not going to win unless he cheats ahead of time, trying to steal the 2026 election in the summer of 2025. And rather than bend the knee, as too many with too much power are doing in this country today, those 56 Democrats in Texas left the state. They did not flee. They are fighting not just for Texas, but for you here in Nebraska, Iowa, every state in the union right now. And they are doing this at extraordinary risk to themselves. They are being fined to a person $500 a day. They've got to come up with the expenses for their flights, for their food, for their lodging, for their legal defense. Why would they need a legal defense? The governor of the state of Texas is charging them now with second-degree felonies. In addition, he is also filing with the Texas Supreme Court right now, he just filed today, to vacate the seats of those 56 Democrats so that they will lose this position of public trust because they are doing exactly what their constituents asked them to do. No bribe from no person. Just trying to represent Republican, Democrat, Independent alike. Those people in those 56 districts in Texas. Here's the thing. If they prevail, if they can stay out long enough to prevent Abbott and the Republican legislature from adopting these new congressional maps, we still hold out hope of stopping this slide into authoritarianism, of having some checks and balances against a president who seems to want to defy the Constitution, the rule of law, and our democracy at every single turn. I'm making the case that what they are doing right now, they are doing on behalf of each and every single one of us.
