Before the crack of the bat in October, there's the craft behind it - and at Victus Sports in King of Prussia, that craft is a labor of love.
Founded in 2012 in a friend's garage in Central Pennsylvania, Victus Sports has grown into a global brand, supplying bats to some of Major League Baseball's biggest stars, including several Philadelphia Phillies players.
"About 25 to 30% of the big leagues on any given night are swinging our bat," said Jared Smith, founder and CEO of Victus Sports. "So every lineup, you can expect two to four people - typically some teams more than others." #mlb #fyp #baseball https://6abc.com/post/inside-victus-sports-king-prussia-bat-company-behind-mlbs-big-hits-made-pa/17952375/
Well, we continue to watch the Phillies swing for October glory, and some of the bats making
that happen are actually born right here in Pennsylvania.
The hometown heavy hitter supplying major league power at the plate is Victor Sports.
In this week's Made in PA, our Christy Aleto takes us inside the King of Prussia-based
company where they make up to 600 bats every day.
Before the crack of the bat in October, comes the crack in the bat at Victor Sports.
How long does it take to make one bat?
For us, I'd say it's typically a three-day process.
Jared Smith is the co-founder and CEO of the King of Prussia-based company and says multiple
steps are taken to make their signature Victus bats.
We have seven guys that are out there on these hobby lathes that are hand-sanding each of
these bats, checking them for weights.
We have three to four guys that are turning the bats.
We have another eight guys that are spraying and finishing the bats.
Dozens of Pennsylvanians responsible for each step of the process.
The final step, engraving in the very back of the warehouse.
It's a process just for one single bat.
Three days, seven stations.
Yes, absolutely.
Once done, major league baseball players will often come in to test the bat in this cage
on site.
The last time I did this was PE.
I gave it a swing.
The bat is perfection.
Hoppy.
Very nice.
Right now it's about 25 to 30 percent of big leagues on any given night swinging our bats,
so every lineup you can expect two to four people typically, some teams more than others.
Think Garrett Stubbs, Brandon Marsh, and Bryce Harper, who's hit a lot of home runs with
Victus bats, including the one that sent the team to the World Series back in 2022.
Now they're getting ready for another Phillies Red October.
The company that started back in 2012 in Smith's friend's garage in central Pennsylvania is
now a global brand.
I look around at just the showroom and the bats.
You come a long way.
When you take, like, you walk past this every day.
When you look at this, what kind of runs through your mind?
There's certain days where you pinch yourself, and with the playoffs coming up right now
for the Phillies, that's something for us too that we're really excited about.
I just look at where we've come from to where we've gotten now and don't want to lose sight
of that.
