Interview Date & Time: 04/15/23 Interviews, Stats and Video, All Provided by XFL. Thank you so much!
We've got defensive lineman Saviano Patton from nearby Quero, Texas.
So I hope you guys will be good to talk to each other.
Yes, sir.
Any questions for Saviano?
Saviano, what was your team's wish when you came up here to play?
I think we played all right.
We could have played a little better on offensive defense.
Defense, we gotta get off the grass.
Same thing different week, to give the offense more opportunities to score.
So I think we gotta keep getting better at that, and
we got one more opportunity next week to keep trying to find a way to win.
What was your biggest challenge?
You had to stop the run.
Number nine is a great running back, and we had to shut off the engine.
You see a couple times we didn't do that.
He had some big runs today.
So that's the biggest thing is us having to stop the run.
What are the things you do to keep the team alive?
It's fun. I got 60 family members out there right now waiting on me on the field.
So it's fun.
Haven't seen a lot of them in four months.
So it's fun to see their faces out there.
I feel like the old days when I used to play here in the playoffs in high school.
All my family would be in the stands.
So it was pretty cool.
Anything else?
All right, thank you.
Yes, sir.
Thank you.
It was fun being here.
Sorry.
Yeah.
You're third, isn't it?
No, it's like watching the band.
It's like, wow, same thing, same thing.
We get right there, and we get all excited.
And it's almost like, okay, what is it gonna be this time?
Turning the ball over, improving on our penalties.
We played better discipline balling up to the end.
Can't get across the finish line.
What was the challenge in trying to slow down things?
Well, they ran the ball pretty well, and we helped them.
We blew some coverage.
They didn't do anything that we didn't expect them to do.
We put in a solid team, obviously.
And we finally made some plays in the yards.
You know, the yards, everybody get caught up in the yards.
I don't get caught up.
It's school.
That's the way it is.
And we stop when we need to.
You guys had a two-point conversion attempt on the 10th, right?
I think that's what it was.
It was a two-point conversion attempt.
Yeah, we called for the fade, and it landed slant.
And a lot of them wanted a double call.
But that's one of the things that happens when you're trying to find a way to win.
And the fake ball was obviously a two-point in the game.
What led you to make that call?
Well, it was set up.
It was called early in the game.
We got the look that we wanted, which was man-to-man stuff.
And we just wanted to see if the guy was going to bumble.
He had his first natural two.
We didn't want to go down one-on-one.
So, like I said, it's not a lack of trying, but trying to win the ball.
Coach, I used to look down on me to speak up.
But they don't share broadcasts.
Greg's playing football, so he's not proud at all to be able to make that call.
What about Darington McKnight's rush?
He did a great job.
He's been coming on.
He got off to a late start early in the year with a hamstring.
And now he's starting to get a start.
He's obviously starting to deliver.
He had a home run, too.
He's doing a pretty good job.
And I noticed that you're being two quarterbacks at times.
Talk about the rotation.
Yeah, it's almost like a momentum thing.
Last week, I felt like we should have used some time just to reset.
Reset the guy that started it all.
And I feel like that helped us a little bit tonight.
Probably for now, though.
Jeff, again, it's late-time season, but it's not going to happen that way.
Just keep working hard on the game.
Well, I appreciate it.
Thank you.
