in this episode hooray it's Christmas my
friend Julia comes to say we have a
great time going to meria to see the
Christmas lights my Spanish friend Anna
tells me how people in kisara Bend
Christmas and when Rob comes over we
celebrate together in the cottage and of
course we're hoping for snow because we
are pretty high up
here before Julia arrives I need to make
sure the cottage is lovely and warm
[Music]
[Applause]
welcome back to cata Blue Hills
[Music]
[Applause]
isn't it pretty it's
[Music]
beautiful no no no
na we can't resist popping into a
vintage shop for a quick
look more of this coming in another
video
[Music]
[Music]
I don't know
okay h
I'll probably have to cut this bit of
fumbling from my
[Music]
yes
[Music]
well you can't tell me it's better for
you blood have a biscuit is if you end
up having a biscuit afterwards after
you've had the raisins and the orange
and the apple
and we go round a bend and nearly jump
out of our
skins that was a shock God I didn't
expect to see them around the
corner the next morning we go looking
for pine cones to decorate the cottage
[Music]
on come on
[Music]
so here we are then it's cold outside
probably zero isn't it m probably zero
and here we are in the cottage lovely
and warm but we've got some jobs to
do so what are we going to do first are
we going to decorate the mantle piece or
are we going to make some lovely rustic
Christmas
decorations the decision is yours
um we could do both with a with a glass
of wine
wine okay let's get
[Music]
wine you got a glass me as well where do
I put the mic just poke
it is that all right like that anyway
[Music]
do you want some don't tell that say
come on then where's your
glass
okay come on then where's your glass
you're going to have some I will have
some we've only got one wine glass Haven
bought any wine glasses yet so
far that's mine
okay okay look
cheese it's actually quite nice I think
very good I was expecting red yeah on M
cheers Merry Christmas
M it's quite sweet isn't it all right
what have you
been cup of
[Music]
tea got a half a cup of tea as well as
wine only Rob would have a flamethrower
to light a candle
[Applause]
[Music]
that's these one's going up there
yeah oh
no disaster
[Music]
[Applause]
a second
disaster I have a go
yeah show the
[Music]
camera
really are we
good we've collected foliage Pine
Rosemary okay some cones cones let's get
the cones
excuse
me make sure they don't fall over yeah
make sure they don't or burn set Al
light s
Cas that Ros me looks a bit whizzed
already doesn't it
it's
dry but that's good we can use it for
cooking put it on the fire oh yeah that
will smell
nice I'm going a big one for the
end see better days one
last okay
yeah now we'll make the
decorations the little decorations to
dangle up there as well so if you can
you paint those red that'll be
Fab and
then I'm going to paint some little
sticks gold and then twist them
together to make little
stars okay then last one here does that
look about right y
and then you got some of this if you
want to put this
on super okay
halfway don't know does that look stupid
no
ristic Okay so we've done it all in a
bit of a rush because we haven't got
that long um Julia can't be here that
long with me and it's abs absolutely
wonderful that she is here um and it's
not really it's not like all the lovely
ones that you see on Instagram but we've
made it it's our rustic it's all
recyclable that's really important and
um it's all from the garden it's all
from the garden every bit of this is
from the garden
so I'm happy are you happy I'm happy
cheers very good thank you that's okay
and so my lovely friend
Anna who I've known for a while who
lives in kalis spara which is a long way
from Al little cottage is very friendly
with the owner of this lovely
cafeteria and
so
ADW very kindly
said that we can film some of the lovely
cakes they've got prepared for
Christmas
however we could only come on
Thursday and the
dwya was
little tiny bit
upset because she wanted to show us all
the wonderful cakes they've got made for
Christmas Even better than these lovely
cakes but they really only have
them on Friday and
Saturday but oh look at these look at
those they look absolutely wonderful
okay so the shelves are a little bit
empty
now o look at those I wonder if they're
like R
truffles a little bit empty so she's
feeling a little bit embarrassed that
she can't show us a wonderful wear a
wonderful Christmas
wear because obviously you can see by
the standard of these beautiful
cakes that this is a cake shop
a
very high
[Music]
[Music]
quality we have ooh look at
those chocolates of Extravert extra
virgin olive oil pre leans
o so it's very kind of her to give us
permission oh oh see at
those
alra o onion
almond very
look
see see
oh
[Music]
look
see made made on the premises
the lady and her husband the lady and
her husband make them all here the Cake
Shop was closing early as the dwya was
treating her employees to a special
Christmas lunch so me Julia and Anna
went to another bar to have a chat about
Christmas in kalis
Sp so this is my lovely friend Anna and
and see and just wanted to ask some
questions about how Spanish people
celebrate Christmas okay
she told me normally one side of the
family meet up on the 24th lovely meal
and then they go to the other side of
the family on the
31st on the 24th it's typical to eat
seafood as a starter and then lamb or
possibly pork as an
alternative sometimes families go to a
little Hut in the countryside and cook
over an open fire
normally on the 6th of January families
go to the main Square outside the town
hall where there's a procession with the
three kings and the three kings throw
sweets to the
children I ask Anna if she goes to
church she says she isn't Catholic she's
an Evangelical Christian so she
does when we went to look at the lovely
cake shop to see traditional Spanish
cakes for Christmas so obviously I
wanted to buy some for for for to keep
for when um Rob comes out and we have
our special Christmas dinner but the
lovely owner wouldn't let me pay for
them so she gave us these as a present
so let's see I think it is oh no I'll
turn them upside down and ruin them
probably oh no let's see the upside down
cakes
upside down
C woohooo look at that come on then
right we don't need to save all of these
for me and Rob our Christmas dinner but
I do want to save I thought there were
two chocolate ones no that's weird okay
for a special pre Christmas cake what
would you like which ones are these I
can't remember what she said possibly
honey something you going to try this
one with me yeah let's eat it let's eat
it
baby is it good
m
m oh melt in your mouth like almond
isn't
it that's what's
left you still got
six well Christmas
dinner dipping over the no we're not
drunk
obviously unless there's alcohol in the
cakes So yeah thank you so
muchas so far then we haven't had snow
instead we've got Fields full of wild
flowers but that's not to say we won't
have any here's some photos of snow in
and around of meria from places about
100 miles away from us thank you so much
if you sent me a photo or a video
right then uh so we need knives need
potato peeler and we need oil and um
black pepper
can oh my goodness
I'm not safe with that well we did have
a knife an in between size knife but it
got packed sent back to England on a
road trip oh yeah and we have actually
got one in between these two that's back
in England okay and obviously we can't
bring it back cuz can't bring it back
yeah cuz Ryan a don't particularly like
it having things like that in your own
luggage no and and very sensible too all
right then so uh who's doing what yeah
do you want to peel the
potatoes what I don't mind
whatever so what we're doing today then
is so um we asked our Spanish friend
Anna um what is uh some something
typical that Spanish people in the
region of meria which is where she's
from what is a typical Spanish uh meal
for Christmas day and she
said pavl pavl is turkey so we've got
turkey and she said with aoya onions AO
garlic
patas tomatoes and pepper uh but we're
not having pepper because you don't like
it okay um only thing is you pointing
that you um
tomates I meant to text her and ask her
do you chop them up or do you have them
whole so you got to chop them up a you I
don't know oh want a bit of a layy thing
do you want a layy
thing I don't know if we want a layy
thing or whether we want um whole things
whole things around the turkey we don't
know do
we you don't know well they're getting
chopped
up okay
anyway all right so onion elepant in the
room where's me
Gro oh yeah well hang on a minute I
bought that for it have with our with
our meal when it's ready you want it now
B do okay go on then is in there on the
table so um how big do you reckon the
potatoes am I doing them like normal
English and then and then look up to
me am I doing the normal English roast
potato size I don't
know we know nothing I'm sure at the end
of the day whatever you do it's going to
like disappear it's going to taste nice
I'm not going to not eat it because the
potatoes are the wrong size no but we
want it to be um you know we're in Spain
we're cooking a traditional dinner what
we do these Tom
okay prbly without any fingers in there
yeah no
fingers okay bit smaller I reckon oh
yeah bit
smaller So that obviously they cook at
the same time with the turkey anyway
where's that did you go and get alcohol
yeah but you've made me hold the camera
so I can't have anything to drink it's a
bit of a cunning
plan well let's stop right there and get
that open looking heck don't have to
turn it that
[Music]
one special salad oh lovely that's yours
so where's mine all right then all right
Merry Christmas Merry Christmas to you
you look nice thank you with how do you
dangle earrings
on they're actually my n's
earrings so very nice I'm wearing them
in memory of absent family and friends
very
good okay then Yum Yum
Yum and Salada mixer salad do
no that was really really nice wasn't it
yeah okay lovely let's get the main
bit and here we go ly look at that oh
smell
that guess what you're having most of
the turkey and I'm having most of
potatoes and vegetables yay I'm not
meant to be upset with that many any
vampires anywhere near us tonight they
meant to garlic no vampires at all
that's good no Vampires will eat our
dinner either Yum Yum Yum did you eat
that last
potato no you had
it did I I had the last book one potato
oh and
so from castill La Mancha in Spain we're
wishing you an absolutely wonderful Fel
Navidad a very very very wonderful happy
Christmas to everyone whoever you may
spend it with yeah we hope if you spend
it on your own then we just wish you a
