I just baked up these beautiful hot
biscuits with only two ingredients and
they only took me about 20 minutes. They
bake up with that perfect slightly crisp
exterior and the middle turns out so
soft and flaky. And the best part is
anybody can bake these biscuits, even
your youngsters. They're that easy. So
the next time you need some fresh hot
biscuits in a pinch, this is the recipe
you have to make. Now, the two
ingredients in these whipping cream
biscuits are self-rising flour. And if
you don't have self-rising flour, you
can very easily make your own just by
taking 2 cups of allpurpose flour and
adding in 3 tesp of baking powder and
half a teaspoon of salt. You can make up
a big batch of this and keep it in a
canister and you'll always have
self-rising flour and you'll never have
to buy it. So, that's a little something
good to know. Now, we're going to take
this and make a little well in the
center just like so. And if you guessed
whipping cream as the second ingredient,
boy, you are doing great. We're just
going to add that right into the little
well and just start mixing it together
to form a nice soft dough. I really love
that self-rising flour trick because
it's pretty expensive to buy in the
store, at least here in Canada. I think
it might be a little more common in the
States to have self-rising flour. You
see it on more storeshelves, but once
you learn how easy it is to make it
yourself, you probably don't even really
need to buy it ever again. Now, if your
dough isn't very soft, which mine is
not, I did weigh this flour by volume
rather than weight. So, there is a good
chance that I might have added a little
bit too much. I'm just going to add a
little bit of water to soften the dough.
Not a lot, maybe just a couple of
tablespoons.
It is pretty important that biscuit
dough is soft because that's going to
give you softer biscuits. And I'm going
to say that this dough is probably
perfect now. So, it is nice and soft.
It's okay if it's a little bit sticky.
Now, on to a lightly flowered surface.
Going to take my dough and just pat it
out. Or you can roll it out with a
rolling pin. And I'm going to share a
little secret with you on how to get
nice flaky biscuits. If you pat out your
dough and then divide it in half and
stack one piece on top of the other like
this, pat it out again. And repeat that
about three, four, maybe five more
times. You'll be creating all these nice
layers in the dough. And your biscuits
are going to be nice and flaky.
I'm going to just sprinkle a little bit
of flour on top cuz it does get a little
sticky as you do this. We'll do that
again a couple more times.
Stack one over the other.
You might need to kind of give it a
scrape underneath just to keep things
nice and clean. Maybe we'll do it one
more time
there. And at the same time as you're
doing this stacking, you're also kind of
kneading the dough together so it
becomes a little bit more consistent.
I'm going to sprinkle just a tiny bit
more flour on top. And I actually am
going to start rolling this now. I think
I'll go for about maybe a/4 in
thickness, maybe half an inch. It really
depends on how thick you like your
biscuits. You don't want to make them
too thick because sometimes if you have
all those layers when you bake them,
they topple over and that doesn't look
that nice. I think that there looks
pretty good. Now, I'm going to take a
biscuit cutter or a cookie cutter and
just cut out my biscuits from this piece
of dough. And one other really good
secret to making good biscuits is to use
an actual cutter that's kind of sharp
rather than just a glass because you can
see that the sides are not pinched
together. So if they're pinched, that
inhibits them from growing. But this way
they're going to have a nice high rise
because the edges are nice and clean.
Now I'm going to transfer these onto a
parchment lined baking sheet. And of
course, we can bring all these scraps
together and probably get a couple more
biscuits out of them. The last biscuit
you're probably going to have to just
shape by hand. Just do your best to, you
know, kind of make it look like the
other ones. And one optional thing I
like to do is just brush a little bit of
reserved cream on top of the biscuits
before baking them. This is going to
help them get a little more brown. Right
now, you'll want to be preheating your
oven to 400° F. I am using the fan
setting and I'm going to bake them for
15 to 18 minutes. You'll know they're
ready when they're this nice golden
brown and they look well risen. Just
look at how beautiful these are. Can you
believe we made these with just two
ingredients? For something that was so
effortless, these are quite impressive.
I don't know, maybe I just get excited
over nothing. Now, normally I would tell
you to let these cool completely like
most bread recipes I make. This is one
such recipe that actually tastes best
when it's hot from the oven. So, we're
going to go ahead and split one of these
open while it's nice and hot. You can
see that these are nice and flaky with
those layers that we created. And I
think this calls for a little butter,
you know, while they're still nice and
warm. I think we're going to have to add
a little jam to that also. And there you
have our perfect twoingredient whipping
cream biscuits. I really hope you
enjoyed this video and that you'll give
these biscuits a try soon. Don't forget
for a printable recipe, as always, I've
linked it in the description below the
video. Let me know in the comments how
they turned out for you, and I can't
wait to share another recipe with you in
the next video.
