Kim Diehl has done it again!! She has created yet another "serving of satisfying scrappy quilts" as her book puts it! Lisa will be showing off all of the beauties in her Simple Whatnots III book and you will be adding that book to your wishlist!
Here we are, back again. Lisa from Permanent Gatherings and I'm super
honored to be holding Kim Deal's quilts right here. She is the uber talented
Henry Glass fabric designer and this woman knows how to make beautiful
beautiful quilts. I wish I could hang out with Kim on a regular basis. I wish we
could get her to come here, hopefully someday, maybe. You know, one has to wish,
right? So thanks for joining me today to go over all of the quilts in Kim's
newest book for Martingale Publishing, Simple Whatnot 3. We all love her quilts
and that's why there's a 3, right? You don't get to do a 3 if 1 and 2 didn't
do well. So these quilts are amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing. And you want
to do almost every one of them that I'm going to show you. I promise you, you
could just lock yourself in your sewing room and not come out for months and
keep sewing her stuff. That's how fun it is. So we kind of think we got them in
order but there might be a little mix-up so just be prepared. If I look like I
don't have the right one, it's probably because I don't. So we're just gonna go
through these quickly and show you all of them that are in her book. This book
is still up as a pre-order but it is coming soon. And Jessica, is it on sale or
is it just a pre-order? It's just a pre-order. We're not giving it to you on sale. We
want you to pay full price for it because it's worth every penny. And to
support Kim and our shop. So isn't that fun? But we do have something free for
you at the end that I'm going to show you that you can get. So here's the cover
of the book. I don't have to explain how beautiful Martingale's books are.
Especially with all of Kim's beautiful, colorful, scrappy fabrics. So you can't
beat these Martingale books. And this is a big book. There is at least a hundred
and twenty-eight pages. That's how big this book is. When I pick this book up,
I'm like, do I have two? So that's how much is in this one here. So Simple
Whatnot's three. Let's start going through the quilts. And we will give away
one of these books or maybe two if you have some really good questions. So leave
a comment in the questions and Jessica will pick a winner of a book or two. So
the first one is called Farmer's Market. Look at how beautiful this quilt is.
Isn't that lovely? Kaylee, are you showing sizes and stuff?
Yeah. Okay, so I don't have to say that. I'll try to get the light so you can see
the quilting. But Kaylee sometimes have close-ups as well. Here's the back. I love
Kim's wide backs. Wide bindings. Not backs. Wide binding. She says she doesn't
know how to do it any other way. They're just so gorgeous. I'm gonna plant them
all over the couch here. Don't they look good with my couch? You think she would
miss them if we put up a wall of her minis? Probably, right? All right, so these
are previous quilts that have been in her Simple Whatnot Club. So if you've
been in the Whatnot Club, you might have some of these already. But now everything
is in a book. This one is called Wind Spinner. Lots of flying geese of
different sizes. A few little triangles. But isn't it beautiful? The miniature
quilting design on this is fabulous. Wow. All right, I watch Kim on Instagram, so
sometimes I see little bits and pieces. And I remember seeing these little
drunkard path units on her Instagram. Follow her on Kim at Kim Deal on
Instagram and you'll get some sneak peeks at her little piecing. I know, isn't
this just fabulous? With the little applique in the middle. She's wonderful
at machine applique. You can't even tell it's done by machine. It's so perfect. So
perfect. Like, amazing. Amazing. All right, so After Autumn Tapestry is Woven Stars.
Now if you love tiny piecing like I do, this is right up your alley, right? She
uses homespuns, half-square triangles. I have some half-square triangle paper if
you need some of that for those little ones. All right, next up is Charm School.
Got itchy nose. All right, so look at these nine patch blocks and the simple
quilting with the orange peel design makes it so beautiful. I love how it has
a center medallion in the quilting. Heidi, can you grab my flannel there once? I
want to show them, I want to show you my favorite flannel and you're gonna know
why I love Kim's fabrics. This is my favorite flannel. Like, I put this on when
it's just a little too chilly to wear short sleeves in the morning. But do you
see why I love Kim's teals? And there's another quilt in here that you're really
gonna love, too, if you love teal. That's just a really good color right now. It
goes good if you're a blonde or brunette. It's just an awesome color. But every
time I see Kim's fabrics, like when I'm piecing stars all around, I purposely put
in some of Kim's teals. I tried to say that all in one word.
Tim's, Tim's teals. Kim's teals, because they are just like shining gemstones in
your quilts amongst the scraps. So her fabric line is from Henry Glass. I know I
said that before, but just in case. But look at how beautiful this one. This one
is called Pint Size. Those are about one-inch squares finished with half-inch
little borders on them. You think she'll notice if we don't send this trunk show
back? This would be awesome at the shop for a while. All right, apple baskets. We
all love basket blocks. Kim must, too. Flying geese, cross in the middle. But her
fabrics really make these quilts shine as well. Did I mention there's 128 pages
in this book? I'm just being funny. Look at this. She couldn't help herself, I
don't think. Look at those little. So I don't know, I bet you she did this, yes,
with her machine applique she's done this with. And I think if I was her, or I
would do this, so this would be a circle on a square and then cut in four. So
that's what I would do. I wonder if that's the way Kim did. I'm gonna look.
I'm gonna look. No, it's not. She has a quarter template there. So, awesome. So
cool. All right, next up, frugal farm wife. I think we've all had to be frugal in our
lives at one point or another, right? I love this little connector, half snowball,
so you don't put them all the way around, you only put them on two. And then she
just adds some half square triangles at the top and bottom. And doesn't that just
add so much more interest to have two components instead of just a quilt with
one? So see how she makes life interesting? Good job, Kim. This one is
called windswept pincushion. So I bet she just took all of her scraps or
leftover components after making some of these and made this kind of like box
pincushion. So it has boxed corners on it. That is super fun. Right there. The next
one is a little sampler quilt called this and that. Just adorable. I haven't
really showed a lot of the backs because they're all kind of the same fabrics.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Gloria just said that these are wonderful in a frame as well,
as just, you know, but they would be awesome in Gloria's basket, like all
rolled up and sticking out of her basket like this. So this is what we mean by
putting them in there like that. Yeah. Okay, I'll just put it. Okay, no, we're gonna
like arm-wrestle to who's taking them home, right? All right, next up I think is
a runner. There's lots of pages for the sampler. Twirlygigs is kind of a little
runner with kind of pieced pinwheel blocks and little half wreaths for the
quilting in there. She has this print on a lot of her backs, kind of that colorful
paisley. Village Square is over here behind me and that is churndashes and
kind of like a plaid with churndashes. That would make a cool fabric, Kim. Make a
plaid with your churndashes. Isn't that cool? And the applique, just add
applique to some pieced work and you got a masterpiece. So Kaylee picked that one
to be the backdrop. Super nice. All right, next up is called Ribbon Candy. Here we
have some real fence blocks and some flying geese. Again, that combination of
two different units that make these little miniatures much more interesting.
All right, Cross Purposes. Kind of a brick, all the same size bricks and then just
by placing two together or one alternating that comes up with like a
woven pattern. So if you save your one and a half inch strips off of all your
leftovers you can make that. Now this next one is my favorite. Isn't that awesome? I know, right?
So I love this quilt. I love the color. It would be awesome in my lake house. So I
might be making this one and I love how they propped it in the book. You call that
propped or what do you call that? Staged. So look at how they staged in the book
with a tackle box, some sand dollars, some ball jars, starfish, old window. Look, I
don't even have to think about it. I could just replicate this at the lake
house, right? I have tackle boxes that I find and then I don't have sand dollars
but I have these little anchors that I could put out around it and I do have
those old ball jars and I do have lots of windows. So good job Martingale on
that combination. Okay, making waves. See, we're talking about the lake. Look at
this baby. Two different size half square triangles and flying geese. There's not
one quilt in here that I don't love. I can't say that with most books but
these books, there's not one quilt in here you don't love. So this is wool
applique. I love it. Look at that little cutie. This one is called October Sunset.
This would be the perfect project if you've never done wool applique and you
want to maybe just get your feet a little wet. This is a perfect one right
here. All right, so all of those 18 projects are in this book and that's why
it's super chubby. Pre-order right now under Live with Lisa. Yep, all right, on
our website there. Okay, so these in this book are all previous patterns from Kim's
clubs that she runs and those are her Simple Whatnot Club. Now what we like to
do here at Primitive Gatherings is we try to support Kim by buying all her
Fat Quarter Towers, her yardage, all that kind of stuff. So this is her newest
fabric line called Right as Rain and we have these towers on our website for
sale. I don't know the price of them. Maybe Jessica will find that for me. But
if you want to purchase this Fat Quarter Tower of Kim's fabrics to make these
beautiful quilts, we also are going to give you all of these patterns free for
her Simple Whatnot's next club. So you're not only do you get, you don't get this,
this is if you buy the book, but these are all different brand new quilts of
hers that you can make with her new fabric line called Right as Rain. Now we
also know that the little light fat quarters that are in here aren't enough
to do a lot of these. So Jessica has also put together a pack of neutrals, one
or two yard cuts, two yard cuts. I believe there's five of them. So you can get ten
yards of her backgrounds as well if you want to make these as well. So we're
going to throw these in there for you if you purchase any of those. So I can kind
of quickly show you some of these sheets. So I don't want to do too much,
but kind of focus on the quilt itself, Kaylee, and not the word. Yeah, yeah. So
that is one of them. All right, and there's a little runner here. And then we
have, I'm messing this all up now, Twist and Turn. This one's Smarty Pants. She's
got cute names. She's very clever. You can tell she's very clever. I think I
said that one already. Crossroads is another one. Hayride. Hogtide. Very fun.
Keeping Room. What was the bowtie one? Oh, hogtide. Okay. Oh, I get it. Bowtie, hogtie.
I got it. All right, and then this other one, I don't know where the first page is.
Oh, right here. Well, maybe that's just a block. You get the idea. Twelve cool quilts.
And then there's a bonus. There's more. All right. Riverside Knoll is a stitch
along that she has along with making the little quilts. Because some people run
this as a club, and then they give out parts for the club. But we want you
to have it all. All at once. Grab yourself the Fat Quarter Tower. Grab
yourself the backgrounds. We're gonna send you all those patterns free with
the purchase of this Fat Quarter Tower. And Jessica, did you find the price?
$114. That's it for 30 Fat Quarters. We have tons of them downstairs. I
walked by them in our warehouse the other day. So how fun was that quilt show?
Wasn't that awesome? So now, did you win a book? Did you win one of the books?
All right. Wanda Hall, you are the winner of one of Kim's books. Please email us your
physical address at store at primitivegatherings.us, as well as
Patty Warthen. You are the other winner of one of Kim's books. And we will get those out to you
as soon as we get them in. But it should be very soon that those will come in. So I hope you
enjoyed Kim Deal's trunk show with Henry Glass Fabrics being showcased and the Martingale
Simple Whatnot 3 book. Awesome. So thanks for joining me today for two lives. If you hung
around, I sure appreciate that. I want you guys to have a wonderful weekend,
and stitch your brains out, okay? Bye now, everyone.
