In the Middle East, protests erupted in
Syria after Israeli forces raided a
village to detain terrorists. A shootout
took place during the raid with Israeli
forces reporting six injuries in Syria
reporting 13 deaths. Entities Jason
Perry has the details.
>> Israel released footage on Friday of a
shootout with suspected terrorists in
Syria. Israeli troops entered a village
in Syria in an attempt to detain
suspects from the Jamaa Islamia
terrorist group.
>> However, several gunmen opened fire on
the Israelis. The troops eventually
appeared to retreat as they were seen
getting back into their vehicle and
driving away. Six Israeli troops were
reportedly injured in the incident.
Afterward, the Israeli Air Force
reported striking targets in the area.
Syria's state-run media said 13 people
were killed during the raid. Israel
later announced that they had completed
the operation to detain three terrorists
affiliated with the Jamaa Islamia
terrorist group who were planning
attacks against Israeli civilians.
Syrian civilians who were injured
received medical treatment at a hospital
in Damascus. One man explained why some
people shot at the Israeli forces
about four to five months ago. The
Israelis took seven men from our
village. So now if they come to take
someone, they're not going to stand
still and watch them. So there was
resistance. When they retreated after we
resisted, they came with planes and
rockets to the village.
>> And on Friday, residents took to the
streets in Syria and marched in the
capital with some condemning the Israeli
raid.
>> This assault is an attack on Syria's
sovereignty, the dignity of the Syrian
people, and the land of Syria. There is
no room to negotiate or work with this
enemy except with the language of
aggression that they use with us.
>> Syrian officials called for the
international community to take quote
urgent action to stop the Israelis from
entering the country. And at the same
time, Israeli troops continue to operate
along the Syrian border, saying their
mission is to protect Israeli civilians
from terrorist organizations. Israeli
troops continue a similar mission in
southern Lebanon where they continue to
strike the Hezbollah terrorist group.
The leader of Hezbollah on Friday
threatened revenge against Israel after
a senior Hezbollah commander was
reportedly killed by an Israeli strike
in Beirut and in the Gaza Strip. Israeli
forces said they found nine dead
terrorists in a Hamas tunnel. Israel
said that terrorists were likely killed
during Israel's efforts to dismantle
underground infrastructure in the
territory.
