Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht, alles schläft einsam wacht.
Hi, I'm Brad.
Hi, I'm John.
As we know, not too long ago, Eric Rommel released a Christmas carol in his native Swedish.
Which is fantastic.
Yes.
Was it Oh Holy Night?
Yes, Oh Holy Night.
That's like what my mind ever started saying.
Well, I have the issue of I'm actually, my brain is stuck on the one we're about to do.
Oh.
Because Tommy's decided to jump on the bandwagon and not do a song in Swedish.
Yeah.
All right.
In fact, he's doing it in German.
Okay.
There's reasons, actually there are reasons.
Well, I guess if he knows how to speak German, then hey.
So Jonathan's about to butcher some German.
You're welcome.
Song question is Stille Nacht.
It's Silent Night in German.
The rock version.
Yeah, I read your thing.
But I don't think you said it right in German.
I don't think I did either.
It's, my German is better than my French, but still spotty.
Anyway, as we know, Silent Night is a popular Christmas carol.
Yep.
Old one, too.
It was composed in 1818 by Franz Javier Gruber.
And it tells you where it came from.
To the lyrics by Joseph Moi.
In other words, it's a German Christmas carol.
Kind of like O Christmas Tree.
It's another one from the same, pretty sure the same region.
Anyway, it was declared an intangible cultural heritage in 2011 by UNESCO.
Which is kind of like, really, it's the United Nations or something.
And, yeah, the song was first recorded, or the first recording that's been found was 1905.
And, you know, it's been pretty much anything Christmas, more or less.
Yeah, and here we are in 2025.
Yeah.
It is one of the.
You have a good song.
Yeah, it is one of the most recorded Christmas songs.
Instantly, I actually listened, because they have on Wikipedia, they have the original tune.
How it was, you know, originally written.
And you can play that versus the modern version.
And there's very, very little difference.
There's actually a few extra notes in the original one that aren't in the modern one.
And that's kind of it.
It really hasn't changed.
It's simplified slightly.
But, yeah, one of the most recorded Christmas songs, period.
And has more than 137,000 known recordings.
It's more than 137,001 now.
Yeah.
Because Tommy has gone ahead and done it in the original German, which is technically how the song, you know,
originally had been sung, as opposed to the English translation.
Yeah.
Well, I say we should check it out.
Before we do, make sure you hit that like and subscribe.
Check out the description down below.
You're going to find all our links, information, and stuff that we have down there.
And links to the store where we have Christmas t-shirts.
Ow.
Right.
This is a short one.
Again.
Because Christmas carols, most Christmas carols, are short.
Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht
Alles schläft, einsam wacht
Nuders Tranter hoch, heilige Paar
Holt der Stabe im Lockingen haar
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh
Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht
Gott ist so, obwieder
Lieb aus deinem göttlichen Mund
Darum schläft die letzten der Stund
To you.
Weirdly enough, it's a really good song for him to do.
Because it's a nice one to actually showcase off his voice.
It's kind of like when you hear him doing Phantom of the Opera.
You get used to him doing rock stuff and everything, but
this is at least the arrangement he's using.
But he did it.
Especially at the beginning there, it's all voice.
So you do.
You just get to enjoy the really good voice that Tommy actually has
that sometimes can get hidden a bit by the metal cover that he's doing.
Right.
Well, just like Eric Ronaldo's that we did, the songs are so notable.
It's like you know that no matter what language they're being sung in,
it's like you know the words to it.
It's like you just instantly know the song.
And unlike Eric's, this one is actually really the original translation
as opposed to...
Yeah, he didn't sing it in his native language.
Yeah, he did it in his native language.
I'm trying to remember what language it's originally in.
French, I think it was.
Anyway.
Yeah, that was way too short.
It's not exactly the longest song.
And like I said, it's just amazing how...
I think someone made a comment on one of the shorter to talk about.
Oh, now I know how to sing in Sweden.
It's like you know the words to it.
English, so it's like this one, they sing it in a...
Yeah, in a foreign language.
And there was a certain amount of you can honestly learn,
to a degree you can learn foreign languages listening to music.
I know...
Especially you know the words are trying to, you know, like this.
Yeah, well, even if you've done...
Well, yeah.
You can learn pronunciations and stuff.
And then it's easy enough to look up the translation of the lyrics
and go, oh, that's what I'm singing.
My German has vastly improved since I started singing Walter Rammstein,
for example.
Yeah.
My Swedish has improved from singing along to Sabaton songs,
the ones that actually are in Swedish.
It's, yeah, it's one of those...
Songs is a language learning medium.
It's about the only thing that actually works for me, to be honest.
Yeah, yeah.
Like I always say, this is a great job and, you know,
obviously getting us into the Christmas spirit, I guess,
that we are in right now, at least the next couple more weeks.
So, yeah.
Well, he might drop some more.
