Hey guys today we travel to the flint area to Burton Michigan at Courtland center mall. I don’t know what to expect here but I was blasted with vintage timelessness the second I walked in. WOW this was a good one. Definitely dead inside except for a bath and body works and some stores that didn’t even have entrances open inline, man this was a throwback. They were even playing 60s music. There was a vacant theatre and museum, a dunhams and a JCPenney. Formerly, there was a Steve and Barry’s, Woolco, The Fair, Federals, and Robert Hall Village. The working fountain and red velvet seats were the best as well as the brickwork on the ground. It just had that vintage vibe you can’t beat. I would say it is a must see in the area for mall enthusiasts.

>> Now we are at the Courtland Center Mall
here in Flint.
Um, this is the more functioning mall
compared with the Dort mall.
I They opened in 1968.
Their anchors are JC Penney, um, Dunham
Sports, and Ross.
And still, it sort of looks like just a
plaza to me.
Uh, kind of weird looking place. I mean,
more normal than the dorm mall. I'll
give it that. Yeah. So, let's go walk
around and see if we can find it. All
right. Let's see what is going on here.
I saw that J C Penney
driving up. And the building is badly
updated looking. I've never seen a C. C.
Penney look like that before.
What?
>> Wow.
>> Already I see a crap ton of vacancies
here.
Whoa,
this actually looks cool as heck.
Look at this sign.
Very dark.
Oh, there's a theater. There's the
Dunhams. That Joanne is closed.
The JC Penney. Where's the Ross? Maybe
that's the Ross.
So, we have that Kazmal open,
but when you first walk in, you really
just see a lot of emptiness.
It almost reminds me of um Midway Mall
in Yria, doesn't it? The way you're hit
with the emptiness like the second you
walk in.
>> Yeah. Do I hear a water ball?
A water fountain.
>> It sounds like it. This floor. This is
cool though.
>> There is a fountain.
Whoa.
Dang.
Wait, this this fountain looks like
Cascade Galleras.
This is cool as heck.
Yeah. Very weird looking on the outside,
very cool on the inside.
Oh my gosh, look how clear and blue. You
just want to jump in.
This is the kind of thing as a kid that
I would be walking in. I mean, yeah, I'd
probably try to walk in there if I was
younger.
Dang.
There's Planet Fitness.
Look at this car in here.
>> Official pace car,
huh?
Um, these are fake.
Look at that red velvet seating.
I love the way it's sunken in.
Oh my gosh, how old is this?
This has to have been here from the
original
mall. This is so cool.
This place has not been updated in a
very long time, if ever.
Very, very
weird to me. Just because of where I'm
from, places get demolished, updated. I
mean, here we have
a J C Penney open.
I mean, this place is obviously very
dead, but
they have three anchors that are living.
Kind of strange. You would sort of
expect a place like this to not really
have anchors.
This is very cool. I love this.
Check out this kiosk.
Oh, look. An art gallery.
Not bad.
Oh, a bath and body. That's a nice bath
and body.
Look at this storefront.
What was this?
Okay. Goodwill closed off. Weird.
I believe this denims might also be
closed off to the uh mall.
But check out these
old machines.
There's a junk food squish.
The denims is closed off. The nail place
is open.
>> Here we have these
stone
um I guess design elements. They kind of
look like lighouses.
They're playing old music in here, which
is pretty neat.
Here is a very dark wing with hardly any
lights.
Is this cinema open?
No, it's not.
Wow. Look at that. Look at this. Is so
dark here.
This is This is bizarre.
Look at that.
Can we see in?
>> Oh, yeah. I wonder when that closed.
Wow.
Now, will they
let me back in?
Here is this exit over here. This is
really,
really strange.
And you're greeted with that
there. It's been busted out.
What do you guys think of the Courtland
Center? This place to me is very, very
cool.
Definitely very different.
I'm glad that these places, some of
these places are still around for us to
see.
I don't think this has been updated
ever. And look, you have this classic
brick wall here
that's very indicative of a lot of the '
60s malls.
>> Look at this.
This is one of those um it's supposed to
look like one of those needle um things
where you press your hand and needles
come forward.
That's very cool.
What is that made from? It looks like
maybe wooden uh pegs or something.
Let's look at the JC Petty W.
Look at the way these windows let in the
gray skies.
There he is.
Wow.
So, this is a pretty small place.
The plants are fake. I mean, they do
look nice, though.
See, you can enter the Planet Fitness
from here or the pennies. Or maybe the
pennies
um is open sometimes
uh through the mall, but maybe it's just
closed now cuz it's like what, like 5.
There's Magus Pet Outlet.
I like pets.
They won't open any entrances into here.
place to shop. Really, is it though?
There's not a lot in here. There's a
Bath and Body, a Goodwill with no mall
entrance, a Denims with no mall
entrance. They say there's a Ross, but
that's not even that's like on the
outside of it.
Um, a Penny's with no mall entrance.
Unless maybe
it seems like the Penny's maybe is open
during the day and they just closed it.
So, I really don't know if this is the
place to shop, but it is the place to
take a video at. Now, this floor, that's
newer. Uh the drywall here or whatever
this is that's also newer.
Um but this is the only signs I see of
it being. So I see they took the time to
update the part that's by the J C
Penney.
Other than that, this place is a blast
from the past.
>> Good sign.
All right, and that will complete my
look at the Courtland Center Mall.
>> Here in Flint. Very surprising in there.
Um, the architecture was gorgeous. The
fountain was phenomenal.
I'm just glad that they left it the way
it is supposed to be. And I mean, it
looks pretty good. um maintenance wise.
So yeah,
>> a man named Quack and she's like quack
soul.
