Following the great feedback on my recent "How I Practice" video, today's video is all about How I Play! I break down all of my on course thinking, strategy and focuses. I really hope you can apply some of the lessons in this video to your golf game. Golf is all about managing our misses and setting ourselves up for success regardless of how we are hitting it.

welcome back to the channel my name is
Andres great to see you welcome back to
southampton we have an evening game
tonight it's hot
I thought maybe filming in the evening
would be okay but it's still a hundred
degrees summer is officially here in
Jacksonville that's no excuse we're
still gonna get out there and employ a
little bit of golf follow the lead from
the video I made a week a week or so ago
about how I practice that video seems to
help a lot of people a lot of people
really loved it and implemented a lot of
the drills and are already reporting
great results from that so I want to do
basically a follow-up to that that's
more about course management so that was
how I practice this video today is how I
play golf I'm gonna go out and play and
talk through all the course management
thinking that I go through when I'm out
there faced with two shots pro shots
plus all that and hopefully you will be
able to learn some course management
strategies from this video and when I'm
done golfing I've got a huge prize
announcement I want to share with you
we've just crossed 25,000 subscribers in
the channel it's unbelievable the hard
work is starting to pay off I can't
thank each and every one of you enough
so I want to give something back to you
awesome viewers I've got a huge prize
pack that I'm gonna give away to one
lucky viewer and you're gonna find out
how to enter when we get off the golf
course so let's go up
[Music]
start on the back nine gonna go on the
tenth hole here 378 yards these bunkers
here straightaway are not in play my
line is I'm just trying to smash driver
over those bunkers favoring right
missing rights totally okay because this
green is actually kind of open from the
right side hidden it left it's not where
I want to be just on a great angle so
I'm the trying to driver as hard as I
can over those bunkers
not my best there got that one kind of
high in Spinney but missed it out to the
right the bunkers are just right here
I've got 98 yards to that pin but like I
said the right miss is okay cuz it
really opens this green up
I've got really nothing in my way a
little bit of wind into my face so I'm
just gonna chip a 54-degree just sort of
keep it down and keep the spin down full
lob wedge would get high and have a lot
of spin
okay I took a little bit too much off of
it so I'm right below the hole decent
place to be so this is what I was
looking at straight at that flag from
the right you've got nothing your way
like I said back there I just took a
little bit too much off of it hated
about 10 yard shorts being below the
hole is always my objective here it's a
pert it's a much easier putt than if I
was long right or long left so now I
don't have an ideal birdie putt but I've
got an uphill 20-some footer for birdie
one thing I do with all of my putts is I
paste them off just to get a feel for
exactly what the number is
I've been practicing so much I have a
great feel for what distance it is how
hard I need to hit it so I'm gonna paste
this thing off and get an idea of
exactly how far I have
twelve phases so 36 feet uphill into the
grain this is one that I can be
aggressive with but not overly
aggressive because if I run it four feet
by it's just a trickier power puck
greens are shaggy a little bumpy late in
the day so this is just one hit a good
putt make solid contact and tap in for
par you can see how much it's wobbling
right below the hole easy easy par
eleventh old 401 on the card little into
the wind no wind I can really take it
over that bunker with ease and have
about a hundred yards into this hole but
because we're a little bit into the wind
I don't need to get too too aggressive
so I'm just going to take something
little right at the bunker and if I pull
it I'll still cover the bunker but I'm
basically taking the left trees out of
play and I can't hit it through the
fairway on that line
kind of stuck back on my right foot
there but it's a fine mist middle the
fairway so I've got 137 but you can see
had enough to cover the bunker and
didn't have enough to get in there and
obviously if I heard a way right I was
still okay that back pin I can take dead
aim at this this is one where I have no
excuse to not hit this inside 20 feet so
137 a little bit into the wind off the
right so I can just hit a stock pitching
wedge and let it let the wind draw it in
and hopefully hit it inside 20 50 feet
deadpan hi just got a little steep -
pulled it I was actually short of thin
high that wind took a little bit off of
it when I could have hit it home off
more at fault let's see how far we have
27 feet straight up the hill this isn't
too dissimilar from the last putt I'm
going straight up the hill straight into
the grain it could move either way so
this is one day I would just play
straight and hope I get a good roll out
of it this time of day it is kind of
leap that way on me had a feeling that
might have been the case but didn't
trust it
if this were a tournament shirt power
power start but to really attack a golf
course that that 10th hole certainly one
where need to hit a really good Drive
and then just hit a closed wedge and
ideally make birdie at least half the
time and then same thing here good drive
wedge so this is a two hole stretch
where I should be 1-under par if I were
trying to you know be competitive but
right now we're even par but the key is
now not to like push because it wasn't a
tight start the key is you just let the
birdies come so we have a par three and
then a reachable par-5 so first things
first folks on the par-3 176 to a front
and wind tends to swirl a little bit in
this corner so what I do is I look at
the lake I just want to see which way
the water is movie on the lake and I
trust that to be what the wind is doing
so it looks like the wind is basically
like this so not enough help to hit an
8-iron so it is kind of an in-between
clog shot so I'm gonna have to choke
down a 7-iron and wear that pin is best
place to be is where he's putting from
obviously left is no good because you're
in the bunker and then the green slopes
to the flag right is an easier
up-and-down than left so this is one
where I could probably tame right at the
flag and if the wind pushes it a little
right great if not fine and I have up
until 180 to be safe so that's why I
would go with 7-iron vs. 8-iron if I hit
this thing a little long there's a lot
of green behind that flag so it's not
not the end of the world so I just have
to choke down and really trust this and
keep the body in arms and sink
in the little steep again
in-hye just a couple feet right of the
green not a good shot but it's a good
miss that's a perfect situation we're
taking a little bit more Club was a
smarter play because if I miss hit it
like I did
I've still got enough to get to the pin
and then I is a great place to be where
it's about to hit that 8-iron and really
tried to smash it and miss hit it on
that exact line I'd be short riding I
have a much harder up-and-down so that
was a great example of when taking a
little bit more Club was the best option
and that's why you look at okay what's
behind the flag so a front pin there's
chances others room up until the middle
of the green so that was in the back of
my mind as to why I picked that Club
versus the 8-iron like I said perfect
leave I'm chipping straight up the hill
into the grain this is a very chip
inable shot but it's one where I just
need to make good contact and let the
ball do what it needs to do on the green
because chipping into the grain into the
grain on the green a little miss hit
could really ruin a lot like it could
just stop or or skim through so this is
just making good contact but I'm looking
at this one pretty aggressively thinking
I can have a good chance of chipping it
in a little bit with the grain but still
a pretty good leave below the hole three
feet into the grain not upset with that
what happened
[Music]
so threes are always good but obviously
when you have a chance to make it to you
you'd like to make it but now we're
moving on to a really reachable par-5 so
this is something where I mean I haven't
made too many great swings in three
holes so I just need to slow it down and
then really make a good swing on this
tee shot to set myself up for the best
chance to make birdie on the next hole
13th oh it's 497 yards so it is a short
par 5 and it is a dogleg so you can take
a bit of the corner off and have even
less into the flag got a pond right here
so I'm looking at what the winds doing
when is into off the right which is
actually great because it helps me try
to turn this ball over that bunker is
about 242 cover so it's not even am I
thinking and I can go as far left it's
probably this white tee box right here
there is a lot of room left so if you
see that bunker beyond this first bunker
that's a great line there's a chimney
right over that bunker there that I
always tend to aim for and if I pull it
or draw it on that line or cut it on
that line I'm great but with this wind I
think I'm gonna go right where his card
is and play a draw and try to get some
chase and have little into the screen as
I possibly can
okay so I had a good drive there I've
got to 15 to that flag it's a very
shallow green so I want to make sure I
at least get it two degrees it's 203 to
cover that bunker that's all I want
everything over that bunker will kick
forward so could kick off the greenback
but it's not a hard up-and-down so 215 a
little downhill lie I'm taking dead aim
with a 5-iron and just want to make sure
I stay basically on the right side of
this screen so I have the easiest
potential putt or up and down for birdie
I've got a harder look now to get up and
down for birdie you can see what I was
saying up here a little bit better that
front bunker just wanted to cover it
it's a very shallow small green if I was
a little long I've been okay up and down
I pulled it up there so now I just have
to deal with a bit of slope but at the
end of the day it's not the hardest
pitch shot in the world obviously I want
to hit better five irons than that but
it's a good place to leave it
please with that shot there's a little
patch here where the grain was actually
into me and that's where it landed so
that's why it spun as much as it did cuz
everything this way was down grain
thought it would chase just a little bit
more
[Music]
I mean if they didn't roll very well
it's a birdie nonetheless so we're on
the right side of par but I had to work
a lot harder for that one that I wanted
to but you can see four holes I really
only made one pretty solid swing so this
is something where I'm just gonna have
to keep managing it for the next five
holes to finish this nine out not take
on any undue risks and hopefully find a
bit of a groove somewhere in these next
five holes which then if this were an 18
hole round I could translate into the
rest of the round because I mean getting
off to a slow start with your swing
isn't the end of the world if you're
managing to maintain your score where it
should be but it's one thing it's tough
when you're swinging it kind of poorly
and then you're not scoring the way that
you would like to be scoring so then
it's like it's a mental test but I just
have to keep focusing on my process
picking targets and just letting the
results take care of itself and not
being so focused on results I'm talking
about results because of the video but
I'm actually not focused on the results
so I hope that makes sense
14 here it's 440 yards on the card you'd
think it's driver past the 150 it really
narrows in so I never hit driver here
unless it's howling into the wind I just
want to hit it to the widest part of
this fairway which is why I hit 3-wood I
can keep it anywhere from that car path
all the way I mean 25 yards left of the
150 steak I've got a very wide landing
area so I can really just free it up
here and make a good swing and kickstart
some better swing
that's why I hit 3-wood cuz if I had hit
driver on that line I would be in the
hazard you can see there's the 150 and
that's what I was telling you about if
I'd hit that thing any further left that
would have been the crap if I'd hit
driver I probably would have chased into
that as well so that's why three one was
the club a little bit of wind helping
I've got one fifty nine to the back flag
I'm gonna go with pitching wedge
pitching wedge is might like 142 to 144
club and I'll tell you why I'm going
with it
this this Bermuda can be a little bit
jumpy a little bit downwind so this
could go anywhere from 150 to 150 to
back pin I don't want to be long so
that's why I'm gonna air short I'd
rather be 40 feet short then potentially
fly this green with a jumpy 9-iron
I'm just kind of getting steep and
flippy but if I had a 9-iron I would
have been screwed I hid pitching wedge
I'm probably about five to ten feet left
of the green obviously missing the green
sucks but I can still get up and down
from there versus if I hit 9-iron
I'd be hitting four from a drop not a
great shot this in the green sucks but
I've got a very flat pitch slightly into
the hill slightly into the grain great
lie so this is something around it's
gonna take my 54 kind of like on the par
3 and just bump it let it run and
hopefully cozy it up there and has a
chance going in that's a bonus I will
say as a bit of a caveat my short game
has been pretty pretty strongly because
you see I've been hidden it a little off
I've been practicing my short game a lot
so I'm looking at chips as if I can make
them so that's one thing that's
different about how I'm playing right
now I'm so comfortable on and around the
greens whereas there's times when I'm
hitting it great and then on and around
the greens I haven't been practicing I
haven't been having to push it so that's
why short game might let me down
oh my gosh how did that miss Oh
it's wild I feel like I can ship almost
anything in right now it's a very good
feeling I just wish I felt that good
about my golf swing
yeah I'm not on the golf course anymore
those dark clouds they they opened up
thunder lightning storming ensued oh and
channel this is maple unfortunately we
had to put a D down back in in April and
we got maple she's 9 weeks old and she's
amazing this scenario is actually
perfect because it would be one of those
ones where I'm not playing my best golf
out there I'm kind of hacking it around
but I'm scoring ok but I would get a
reset I would get time to go and warm up
again and maybe find a bit of rhythm and
then finish this round off hopefully
with some better golf swings and and you
know maybe keep that good scoring going
I hope you learned a little bit about
how I managed myself out there how I
think through thoughts and like I said I
wasn't focused on the score but I talked
about the score just for the videos
purposes and the only reason you're
still watching now is because I said at
the beginning we're doing a giveaway
yeah we hit 25,000 subscribers it's
unbelievable
