Couldn't Believe The GIANTS In This Tiny South Florida Pond!
This was one of the most unique Fishing experiences that I have had. I found this spot on Google Earth and then also had a friend that had fished it Recommend me to fish it. It's not very often you find a freshwater pond with no connection to saltwater that is full of saltwater fish. The second half of the video is a trip with Treasure Seekers Charters on Marco Island. They do seashell finding trips and they also do combination Shell/Fishing charters. Hanna was Guide that day and did a wonderful job helping Michelle find all sorts of unique shells. Richard was our boat captain and was very helpful in my fishing from the beach while Michelle was shelling. So I believe a link below for Treasure Seekers, make sure and check them out and I hope you enjoy the video.
Good morning. It is an unusually chilly,
blustery day here in South Florida.
We're here on Marco Island. Got a couple
more days left here before we leave. And
uh today we're going to do some
landbased fishing. Uh we're going to
fish this morning
at a kind of a secret unknown spot to a
lot of people.
but it's supposed to hold a lot of giant
fish. We've got a bunch of live pinfish
in there. We're just one rod, uh, a hook
and bait. Keeping it really simple. And
then later on today, uh, we're going to
go do a little island hopping. So, uh,
hopefully we can get into some big fish
and, uh, have a successful day. So, I'm
going to get the first bait out and, uh,
we'll get fishing.
All right,
got a little lively pin fish here.
Drags good. Let's kind of get him out
off this little point. Let him swim
around. See what happens.
All right, let's get over to that other
side. Nothing was happening in this
spot. Woo! It is breezy
today. Today I'm using a 8ft toadfish
rod with a Pin Authority 2500 with 20 lb
Delta braid, which is a new braid I'm
trying out that I love.
Okay, here we go. There's the snook
right there.
All right, here we go.
Got him.
Oh, that's decent. That's decent.
Make sure my drag's not too tight. I
only got 20 lb test on uh
so I can't really
be really aggressive with these snook.
Since I'm using such a light leader
today, I can't really put a lot of heat
on these snook. The abrasive mouths when
you get a lot of tension on the line
will just cut right through 20 lb floor
carbon. So, you got to kind of take it
easy and ease them in.
Getting tired.
Uhoh.
Gosh dog it. Hook pulled right there.
Yep. He frayed me up good, too. Ah.
Gosh dogg it.
All right. That's a good start to the
morning, though.
This wind actually will work to our
advantage.
We can get closer to the water than we
would if it was a glass flat day. Kind
of blocks the view of the snook from
seeing
the snook are very wary
and they got great eyesight.
When I'm bank fishing, I like to hook
these in the tail
because that way they swim away from you
and anytime you tug on them by the tail,
they try to run away.
Got them. So, I'm freelining these pin
fish, which means I'm letting them swim
without a weight, and I'm letting the
snook grab the fish and take off and run
a little bit with it. Since I'm using a
circle hook, I don't have to set the
hook. All I have to do is close the bail
and let the line go tight and the hook
sets itself.
It's decent.
Ah, come on.
All right.
All right, guys. First snook of the
morning. Little skinny guy, but uh I'll
take it. He's decent size. 20 some
inches. So, we're going to let him go.
Get him back in the water. Go look for
some bigger ones.
He's gone.
Nice hook set. Corner of the mouth.
You don't have to have a big hook to
catch these guys.
All right.
All right. We're on.
Got him.
Oh, that's a good one.
Oh, fudge.
My hook pull. Hook just pulled. Gosh
dog. It
need to retie anyway. Let's retie. Dang
it.
There we go.
Oh, did he swim into something? Damn it.
Oh, what did he go into?
God dang it.
Oh, that was a good one.
Guess I let him eat. No, I didn't let
him eat too long. I don't know what he
did there. There must been a log or
cave or something. Cave. Must have been
a log or a He swam into something. Might
be a ledge down there.
All right.
Think he's getting chased.
Okay, we're on.
Oh boy.
Oh, that's a good one.
A little pressure on him.
Come on, stay buckled.
Keeps coming this way.
Oh boy, this is a big boy.
This is a good one, guys.
He's got a couple more runs left in him,
though.
I'm not tightening the drag up.
He's coming in. Coming in. Oh, no. No.
Oh, yeah.
Golly,
it's nice and easy.
I got him right here.
Oh man.
Not going to horse them. No way. This
thing's This is a good one. Oh my gosh.
Oh yeah.
Very big boy.
That's a nice one.
Get him up here nice and easy. Yes.
>> Nice.
>> Thanks.
>> Yes, sir.
All right, guys. We caught a beauty
here. Look at that. Uh probably 30, low
30s, but fat, healthy. Let's go catch
some more.
He had a hard fight there.
Come on, buddy. Go. There we go.
Oh, boy. Here we go. All right.
Oh, yeah. Good jump.
Whoa. Mediumsized snook can be so
acrobatic.
All right, let's go.
Come on. Come in. Come in.
Come on.
Not as big.
Oh no, his raptor on his gill.
Okay, there we got him.
Not as big.
more of the long skinny ones.
All right, got him.
There we go. All right, got you, buddy.
All right, guys. Another decent one out
of here.
Not bad. He's feisty. He's He's ready to
go.
Yep,
he's gone.
All right, we still got about six baits
left alive. Then after that, we'll drop
some dead.
Already caught one on dead bait, so
Yeah, we're on
meat. Meat.
Whoa, another good one.
Oh, fatty.
I feel a little more confident. And Oh,
yeah.
Feel a little more confident.
Since we got the 30 lb on.
It's a fat one.
This is a nice one. Same thing. Not
going to horse him. It's doing a lot of
head shakes. I want him to fray that
leader too bad.
This one's going to take a while.
I love this pin authority.
Drag is so smooth. Oh, he's coming. Is
he coming up? There he is. There he Oh,
yeah. That's a beauty.
Another nice fat one.
hook out of the way.
Let's get him gripped.
All right.
All right, guys. Another pretty pond
snook. Good size. This would be close to
a slot if they were in season, but we're
going to let him go. Get another bait
out.
There we go.
All right, we're on.
Got him. All right.
Oh, another good one.
Oh, maybe he's not that big.
Wow,
this guy didn't even fight.
That's And I got my bait back.
Sweet. All right, let me throw my bait
out.
Wow,
this little skinny guy barely fought.
It's all right.
He'll go.
There he goes.
Sweet. Get to reuse my bait.
I'm on again.
On again.
On again.
This one's bigger.
He doesn't know he's hooked yet.
Oh yeah, this is a good one.
This guy ain't fighting either. Oh, did
he pull? Nope. He Yep. Dang it. Pulled.
See if I can hook three on this bait.
Got to be a snook.
Oh yeah.
Oh boy. This a good one. Oh yeah.
This might be the biggest one of the
day.
Oh,
come on.
No, not the biggest. Just a fighter.
Jeez, that guy fought twice his size.
See
if it'll let me get that out.
All right.
All right, guys. Another nice fat pond
snook. We'll keep going till we run out
of bait.
All right.
Come on.
Get my rod. We'll pro him into taking
off.
There we go. Now he's getting ready.
Come on.
There we go.
There he goes.
Oh, that's a good one.
Come on. I hope my camera doesn't die,
guys.
Oh,
let's throw them one more. Let's throw
him right back out there. Maybe he'll
eat it.
Maybe he'll eat it.
All right, guys. That's going to do it
for this part. We're going to load up,
head back to the house, eat some lunch,
and then we're going to head out to the
islands. So, uh, I'll see you guys here
in a little while and hopefully catching
some more big fish.
>> All right, guys. We're out with treasure
seekers today.
>> Uh this is kind of a joint trip. I've
been fishing so much I had to let
Michelle do something. So she's going to
go sea shelling today. And while she's
doing that, I'm going to be walking the
beach throwing some live pin fish. See
what we can find. So uh we're going to
head over to the islands and get
started. You can find Treasure Seekers
on Facebook and also on their website
treasuresheltours.com.
All right, guys. We're here.
We got a trough running right through
here. So, we're going to cast out here.
We got the tide's just starting to come
in.
So, my plan here is to take that pin
fish, free it, throw it out into that
trough where the current will pick it up
and sweep it down like a fish just
caught up in the regular current.
All right, let's see what happens. Got
the wind at our back.
Woo! Got a good one. Hey, Michelle.
I'm thinking this is a trout.
Not pulling drag.
He is going with the current though. So,
pretty sure this is a trout. Got a lot
of grass on them.
Is that a red fish
putting up a good fight? Whatever it is,
is that a shark?
Surely that's not a shark.
Nice red fish. Pretty red fish.
Look at that. Oh, come here.
Hey, Michelle.
Michelle,
first cast.
>> All right.
>> Uh, he's I'm just going to cut it so he
doesn't die.
If I try and get that out, he's going to
die. All right.
All right. First cast, first fish.
Let's watch him go.
Come on.
There we go. He gone.
>> So, we headed off to the next spot,
which I can say is one of the coolest
and most beautiful spots that I fished
on this whole trip. The view there was
amazing.
All right, guys. You see we got a little
pass right here.
Uh, water's flowing through and there's
about a eight foot drop off out there.
So, I'm just going to let this pinfish
just drift naturally all the way back
and hopefully we can hook into something
tarpon.
Numerous times I had tarpon roll right
in front of me.
Get out.
Tarpon are rolling right here.
Seen two.
>> Seen two tarpon roll.
>> Hadn't had any bites, but looks like
they're hitting the little little bitty
minnows.
So, I decided to change up tactics and
instead of freeling the bait, I rigged
up a Carolina rig with a long leader and
an egg sinker. I thought I might have a
better chance of hooking a snook or a
red fish on bottom by letting this bait
drift along with the current along the
bottom.
All right,
let's get out on the bottom here.
And it didn't take long for the switch
to pay off.
All right.
Whoa.
Oh,
>> hook pulled.
There we go.
That ain't a catfish.
That's a snook.
Maybe it's not
That's got to be a snook.
This is big. Whatever it is, guys.
Thing is a big Red.
Yeah. Nice red fish.
All right.
A red with a raora.
decent little guy.
All right.
All right, guys. Our second red fish of
the day. Nice guy.
Pretty. They're so light up here.
>> Real pretty.
Thought he was a snook at first.
>> Doing all those head shakes.
>> Thanks. All right, guys.
>> Let this guy go.
>> He's ready.
>> He's ready.
They must have found some shells over
there.
>> They're on it.
>> Spot. I hope you guys enjoyed the video
and go ahead and check out Treasure
Seekers. They have shell tours. They
also do a combination of shell and a
fishing tour where you fish from the
boat after they dropped the shellers
off. The boat was great. The guide and
the captain were great. Uh, I can't
recommend them highly enough. So, go
check them out. Don't forget, if you're
not subscribed, hit the subscribe
button. Ring the bell so you get
notifications when I put out a new
video. It tight lines, everybody.
