So there was this time in my life where your girl was just in a very dark place.
Mentally, I would wake up so unmotivated every single day.
Just kind of felt the same.
It felt like I was just going through the motions
and I would spend every single day scrolling and scrolling and scrolling.
And I realized that I knew everything about everyone else's life.
All the latest celebrity gossip.
What outfit this girl wore to Fashion Week, where this random person
from high school went on vacation.
I would be tuned in to every popular show on Netflix.
And I knew all of that.
But I couldn't remember a single interesting thing that I did that week.
And that's kind of when I realized that something was off.
And if you're currently watching this right now and you feel the same way,
you probably feel like your life is boring.
Every day feels the same.
You feel stuck like you're in a slump.
You feel unmotivated.
You feel like you're not interesting enough.
You feel like you're doing nothing with your life.
And it feels like you're just living life on autopilot.
Well, I'm so proud of you for clicking on this video,
because here is your friendly reminder that your life is not boring.
You are just spending three hours a day watching everyone else live their lives
instead of living your own.
Well, in this video, I'm going to teach you why your life feels boring when it's not.
And more importantly, how to shift back into your main character energy again,
get motivation and discipline and actually feel excited about your life again.
If you're new here, hello, my name is Lina,
and I share all things leveling up and becoming your best self.
So if you're not already following your girl, what are you doing?
Okay, what are you doing?
Go follow your girl right now.
Let me know what you guys think of the new setup.
What do we think?
Got my little mic here, all official.
My comfy, cozy chair.
And even Mr. Leo is joined with us here today.
He's a little sleepy.
First things first, the problem.
Your life feels boring.
So girly pop, if you're tuned into this video right now,
it's because you're in a season of life where your life just kind of feels boring.
Nothing exciting is really happening.
You feel like your days are just kind of blurring together.
You might feel like you're not doing anything with your life.
You feel like there's more to life that you want to do,
but you just don't know how to start.
And because you feel bored, you feel unmotivated.
You might think that something is wrong with you,
but I'm here to tell you there's nothing wrong with you, okay?
Your life doesn't feel boring because nothing is happening.
Your life feels boring because you're not present for it anymore.
So I know for me personally, I would spend almost every single weekend
staying in by myself, just scrolling and scrolling on social media,
like feeling sorry for myself.
And I would make excuses.
You know, it's because I just don't have any friends.
I don't have money to go do things.
I don't have confidence.
And I would always wait for outside circumstances to change how I felt.
And I would think that, you know, if I had a friend group that I belong to,
a relationship where I felt loved, more confidence,
this beautiful dream life, maybe then I would feel like my life isn't boring.
But let me hold your hand when I say this, okay?
As someone who finally got those things that I thought would change my mindset,
I still got bored with my life.
I still had seasons where I felt super unmotivated,
where I was in a slum, and I just felt like I was going through the motions.
And you know, it makes sense why,
because as soon as you scroll on this thing, you scroll on social media,
it just seems like everyone is up to something.
Like this person just graduated from their dream school.
This person is working with a super cool brand.
This person is getting engaged.
This person is traveling everywhere.
And I'm about to clock a little bit of your guys' tea right now,
but it's okay.
It's out of love.
I'm clocking myself too.
You know everyone else's drama, their outfits, their relationship status,
their travel plans.
But can you remember what you did this past week?
Do you remember what you did yesterday?
And if you can't remember, it's because we've become the audience member of our own lives.
That is why your life feels boring.
Because when you're watching everyone else live their best life on social media,
everyone else being the main character,
of course your life is going to feel flat.
It's going to feel empty,
because your attention is not going to your own life and enjoying your own life.
Your attention is going to everyone else.
And let me say these social media apps,
they make it their life's mission,
their life goal to get us scrolling every single day.
These apps have researchers and developers that their literal job
is to figure out a way to make us as addicted as possible
and to make sure that we are wasting as much time as we can on their apps.
Because that's how they make their bread.
That's how they make their money.
But when your brain is constantly overstimulated by everyone else's highlight reel,
your own life starts to feel insignificant.
Very boring.
If you will.
And I am not pulling stuff out of my butt.
Okay, there's actual studies to prove this.
Harvard studies show that social media triggers
the same dopamine pathways as addictive substances,
which literally rewires your brain to crave constant stimulation.
So basically, when your real life isn't giving you that stimulation,
that dopamine, that excitement, literally like every five seconds,
you feel bored.
You feel unmotivated.
Gen Z averages three hours and 19 minutes daily on social media.
That is literally just on social media.
An analysis of 64 studies indicates that boredom rates
are increasing alongside digital media use.
Studies show that increased social media use intensifies boredom
rather than relieving it,
which I honestly don't even need a study to prove that.
I just know that myself.
Like, just think about it.
When you're bored, it's like an instinct.
You just want to pull your phone, boom, open it up and just start scrolling.
And in the moment, I feel entertained.
But as soon as I put the phone down, I feel 10 times more drained.
There's a study that shows that social media use raises the engagement threshold,
which makes your real life feel under stimulating.
So like I said, your life isn't actually boring.
You're just being disconnected from your own life.
Because of these things,
our mind is being filled with other people's memories, not your own.
And just think about it.
Like every time you go on social media, your brain is just absorbing
everyone else's vacations, accomplishments, aesthetics, routines, their lifestyle.
So when you wake up on a random Tuesday morning to go to school or go to work,
it's going to feel like in comparison, shift your identity.
So, girl, we understand the problem, right?
We understand why the problem is there.
So how do we go about fixing it?
First things first, you want to shift your identity.
And that means start treating yourself like you are the main character again,
because when you are focused on your own life, your own world,
I promise you your life will stop feeling boring.
Not because something about your life suddenly changed overnight.
It's because you are shifting your mindset and you are seeing things differently.
So if you are trying to be the main character of your own life now,
I want you to comment down below.
I'm stepping into my main character era,
and I'm not telling you to do this to waste your time, okay?
There's studies that prove that you are 42%
more likely to achieve something when you write it down.
So write that affirmation down.
Claim it in the comments.
Become the main character.
So becoming the main character of your own life,
it is going to start with one thing first, and it is scrolling less.
And look, I know I used to be the biggest doom scroller every single day.
My screen time was ridiculous.
Was that like eight, nine hours?
If there was an award out there for someone
that wasted their life just scrolling on their phone, I would win that award.
OK, so I am not here to judge you,
but you need to realize that you cannot reconnect with your own life
if your brain is constantly consuming and watching someone else's.
So there's a few things that will help you scroll less,
which is number one, never sleep with your phone next to you.
This is a huge one, OK,
because when you're about to go to bed and your phone is right there,
obviously, what are we going to do?
We're going to be scrolling.
And when you wake up, if your phone is right there, easy access.
You're going to be scrolling.
And scrolling on my phone was literally how I was waking up every single morning
and how I was going to bed every single night.
So instead of charging my phone right next to my bed,
I literally charge it outside of my bedroom.
And I'm telling you, it sounds a little crazy, but it changed my life.
The days where I charge my phone next to my bed are significantly worse
than the days where I keep it outside of my room.
I fall asleep faster.
I get better sleep when I wake up.
I actually want to be productive instead of just scrolling and scrolling
to a setting screen time limits.
Honestly, this one's like a little F for me,
because sometimes it helps most of the time for me.
It didn't because you can set screen time limits on your phone.
But I'm going to be honest, I would ignore it every single time.
So on top of setting screen time limits
like 15 minutes, 30 minutes for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, whatever.
I also recommend if you're about to scroll,
just set a timer for like 15 minutes, 30 minutes on your phone.
And so when that timer goes off, lock your phone and put her away.
So those are a few tips that will help.
But I know it's easier said than done.
You cannot expect yourself to never want to scroll on your phone.
It's just not realistic.
This is pretty much how we live now.
You can't just delete Instagram and TikTok forever
and just expect yourself to be magically present.
So this leads me to my next point, which is start documenting your life.
So how do we stop being a side character
in our own lives and start living like the main character?
Girl, it is simple.
Start documenting your own life, not for anyone else, but just for you.
And I know that sounds really simple,
but here's honestly what happens when you start documenting your life.
You are like forced to look at your own life.
You start paying more attention to yourself.
And right now our brains are overloaded with other people's content,
other people's lives.
So when you start actively documenting your own life,
you shift all that attention that you were giving away to other people
back to yourself.
And as someone who has been documenting my life
every single day for the past month, I can tell you with confidence,
I'm doing scrolling so much less.
I started feeling more present with my own life.
I started noticing all these little moments
that before I would just like let pass by.
I started living my life every day more intentionally
and just feeling more gratitude.
So here's basically what I do.
Every single day I document my life by saving everything on Cove
and anything from little moments from my day,
showing gratitude, writing down three things I'm grateful for,
any music I listen to that day, any helpful articles that I want to save.
For example, for this video, the studies I pulled up, I saved.
I even get to save journal entries.
There's a super cool feature where it gives you prompts to answer.
And yeah, these are just like my day to day memories
that I get to save on Cove without like the pressure of social media,
trying to make the photos perfect, stressing about who's watching.
And there's no ads.
Think of these as kind of albums
where you get to organize and save anything that you want.
So, for example, I have a December lock in Cove
where I'm posting every single day in the month of December,
me locking in on my goals.
I have a healthy recipes one where I save all my favorite recipes.
I have a quotes and verses one
where I save all my favorite quotes and Bible verses.
I even have an outfits inspo one
because I'm trying to level up my fits for the new year.
I also have a cafe diaries one
because I love visiting new cafes around New York City
and I like to post when I go.
I've also created a shared Cove,
which is when you can choose to add people into the Cove.
And so I created one with my girlfriends
where we just post photos whenever we hang out.
And it's just for me and the girlies to see.
And I just like love going back to my Cove
whenever I need a reminder to feel grateful for the life that I have
and just have a place to just like organize my own life.
And I love it because it's my own private space
where I'm not comparing myself with other people,
watching other people's lives.
It is literally just my safe space to focus on my own life.
And I just like love looking at my Cove posts every single day.
And I genuinely look forward to capturing moments from my day
and uploading onto Cove because I know it's for me
and it helps me so much focus back on me.
Whereas whenever I post on social media,
there's just like this pressure.
I know people are watching it.
I know people are seeing it.
I start overthinking.
I make sure that the photo is perfect.
And like posting on social media,
it feels like I'm living for other people.
Whereas Cove is me documenting and actually living my own life.
So yeah, Cove is available on the App Store.
But honestly, use whatever works for you,
whether it's Cove or your notes app or your journal.
As long as you are documenting your life every day
and making sure that you are focusing on yourself
instead of consuming everyone else's,
I'm telling you your life will literally change.
Your perspective on your life will change.
As someone who's been doing this for the last 30 days,
I feel so much more present with my own life.
I feel happier.
I feel more gratitude.
I scroll on my phone so much less.
I feel so much more happier.
And my life does not feel boring anymore
because I feel like I'm actually living my own life now.
Romanticize your moments.
So I don't know who needs to hear this,
but start romanticizing the crap out of your life.
Romanticizing every little moment is literally the key to feeling happy.
And it starts from when you literally wake up,
having a new day, having the sunshine on your face,
making your morning coffee, your morning matcha,
blasting your favorite music as you get ready,
putting on your favorite lip combo,
watching your favorite TV show,
finishing a new book, getting your nails done,
doing a hair mask.
Those little things are truly the little luxuries in life
that adds to your life and make you happy.
I don't know if you guys know that one TikTok sound.
It's like, I think I like this little life.
That sound is literally what romanticizing every little moment is.
So that's actually also why every single day
I write down three things that I'm grateful for.
I could be having the worst, crappiest day.
Everything is going wrong.
I feel bloated.
I'm tired.
But forcing myself to write down
three things that I'm grateful for daily,
it really forces me to realize how blessed I am,
how good my life is, how amazing it is.
And it helps me notice those little things
that genuinely make me happy.
Whereas before, I would just let it pass by
and not even think about it.
And there's actual studies that prove that
writing down what you're grateful for
lowers your cortisol levels and makes you happier.
So I'm telling you, just commit to it.
And it doesn't have to be rocket science, okay?
The three things you're grateful for could be super simple.
It could be you waking up in the morning,
the nice weather, having a slow morning,
your morning coffee tasting good,
your health, quality time with your family, your friends.
And there are actually studies that show
practicing gratitude daily helps your mental health,
your confidence, and your happiness.
Remember that you have a free will.
So there's this one day like last month
where I woke up and I was just,
I was pissed off at the world, okay?
I was not having a good day.
I was so tired.
I also felt bloated.
And immediately when I woke up and I felt that way,
it was like an instinct.
I just grabbed my phone and I just started
scrolling and scrolling for like literally
three hours in the morning, three hours straight.
And then like I just had an epiphany where I was like,
wait, I have free will.
I have two options.
I can choose to lay in my bed
and continue dream scrolling and rotting.
Or I can get up and go outside.
I live in New York City and just like
go walk to a random place.
So what did I do?
I put my phone down.
I got up, walked outside of my apartment
and just went on a walk.
I didn't even have a specific place in mind
that I was going.
I just started walking.
And while I'm on my little Hawker walk,
I was like, wait, I feel 10 times better.
I feel like a hundred times better
than I was just scrolling in my phone,
laying in bed.
And I feel like sometimes we forget that
we are the cause of our own pain and destruction
and not feeling good about ourselves.
And we have free will.
We can choose to do one or the other.
And if we have the ability to sit and rot
and just grow on our phones,
we also have the ability to choose to get up
and go outside and go on a walk.
The easier thing to do is to do what's comfortable,
which is rot and scroll.
But we fully have free will to choose
the other side too.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that
you can choose to leave the house
instead of staying in.
You can stop scrolling and do something
that fills you up.
You can start on that project,
start working out, start posting on social media
instead of waiting for a burst of motivation.
You know, there's like this like one quote
that I saw.
It was something like, do it scared,
do it tired, do it unmotivated.
Just do it.
Just start.
And sometimes I just feel like we need that reminder.
Go on a side quest monthly.
So this is kind of like a little fun one
that I wanted to talk to you guys about.
You should start actively giving yourself
little like side quests.
I would say like once a month.
I'm telling you, it is going to add color
to your life.
It is going to add some excitement.
Okay.
I feel like a lot of us, when we become grown,
we become like adults, you know,
all of a sudden we're expected to be super responsible
and act a certain way, be set in our ways,
blah, blah, blah, blah.
But I always like to say that growth
comes from discomfort.
So that means trying new things,
whether it's wearing an outfit
that you normally wouldn't,
adding some new color to your space,
picking up a new hobby,
learning a new language,
trying a new bar or restaurant,
trying a different culture's food,
reading a book from a different genre,
watching a documentary on animals,
actively seeking those little side quests.
It is going to give your brain some excitement
and create new neural pathways for your brain
for you to experience joy.
A perfect example of this is
I decided to do a puzzle.
Look, I know.
Who me?
Who is she?
Okay.
I cannot tell you the last time I've done a puzzle.
I think the last time I did a puzzle
was probably when I was in elementary school
or middle school,
when we didn't have phones back then
and that was our only source of entertainment.
But, you know, as like a grown adult,
I was like, why don't I do a puzzle?
So one random day I was like,
let me order a puzzle.
I ordered a puzzle
and it was still like a grown up puzzle.
Okay.
It was a super cute view of Italy.
It was my first like real big girl trip.
So I love Italy.
It has a very special place in my heart.
And so I was like, why don't I do this puzzle?
So I sat by myself,
made myself a little snack and I did a puzzle.
And that was my little side quest for this month.
And your little side quest,
it doesn't have to be expensive.
It doesn't have to take that much energy.
It is truly, truly the little things
that add up to make us feel happier.
So yeah, if you've been feeling lost,
if you've been feeling unmotivated in a slump,
like your life is boring,
I hope you know that you are not alone.
And here's your sign to give your life
the attention that she deserves.
If you get one thing from this video,
stop constantly watching other people live their life
and start living your own.
If you're a real one and watch the end,
so I know that you're a real one.
I love you guys so, so much.
And I hope to see you in the next video.
Bye.
