Today I'm going to show you the difference between Busan Korean and Seoul Korean.
I brought our Seoul boy here.
And then my parents are from Busan so I grew up listening to Busan dialect all the time
so I'm pretty much native Busan girl too.
But I can speak Seoul too.
But anyway, so here as you can see the screen, I asked do you know the difference between
them.
If you don't know, today you're going to hear it in our video because side by side comparison
to some of the phrases I brought here.
So let's get started.
So here's the difference and then maybe you can like mimic us and you can shadow us.
And you know it's like kind of fun to learn both accents and see how it goes.
Ready?
So he will be the Seoul boy of our show today and I'll be the Busan girl.
Okay?
So here we go.
Seoul is like the regular normal like day to day and then Busan is more like a dialect
of Korean language.
So here we go.
Our very first phrase is really?
Really?
So go ahead Seoul boy, how would you say that?
Alright, Seoul boy here.
Really in Seoul Korean is 진짜 or 정말?
You've heard of this in K-drama a lot, right?
Like 진짜, 정말?
And then what about in 부산?
Busan girl will say 진짜가, 진짜가, 정말이가?
So you can see like there's like an extra word that's attached to it.
I think Busan is always like that.
There is an extra word and then the accent goes down more.
So we have 진짜가, 진짜, 진짜가.
That will be the Busan girl.
진짜.
진짜가.
Like that.
Okay?
And, oh and if you don't know, he's my husband Isaac.
So say hi.
Hello.
And next phrase here we have is, why?
Why?
So now go ahead and Seoul boy, how would you say that in Korean, Seoul Korean?
I'll say, 왜?
왜?
By the way, all of these phrases are said in casual speech, not polite ones.
But you know, casual can be talked between friends who are the same age.
So again, it's what?
왜?
And then politely, you would just say 왜요?
왜요?
And what about?
All right, 부산 girl.
부산 girl.
How would you say that in 부산?
In 부산, I would say, don't be shocked, it's 와.
와.
I mean, yeah, we can say like 왜? 왜?
It's okay too.
But if you want to go like really dialect-y with this, then you can say 와.
와, 그라믄.
와.
Yeah, that would be how 부산 girl would say it.
Like 와.
Not like that, but like lower your tone.
와.
우찌 됐노, 와?
Like something like that.
Okay?
Cool, cool.
And next we have is, what are you doing?
Like what are you doing?
What are you up to?
Not like mad, right?
What are you doing?
Doughboy?
I would say, 뭐해?
뭐해?
지금 뭐해?
We are filming.
영상 찍고 있어.
맞아, 영상 찍고 있어.
Aina, then how would you say this in 부산 Korean?
부산 Korean, I would say, 뭐하노?
See, like ours is longer.
뭐하노?
야, 뭐하노?
뭐하노?
And then Seoul, you'll notice that it's like 뭐해?
Very soft and it goes up, it's more lyrical.
And that's why I think some people say like, 부산 dialect sounds like you guys are fighting.
But we're not.
We're not fighting, but it sounds like we're fighting because all of our tone go down at
the end.
Right?
So, 뭐하노?
야, 뭐하노?
지금 뭐하노?
So, 뭐해?
뭐하노?
Right.
And next phrase is, where are you going?
So, go ahead, Seoul.
I would say, 어디가?
어디가?
What about in polite, how would you say that?
Polite?
Just put the 요 at the end.
어디가요?
Notice how it's like so soft and then you're ready for 부산.
Are you ready for 부산, girl?
Can you guess how 부산 dialect would say this?
어디가... 어디가노?
No.
어디... 어디가노?
You know it.
어디가노?
Yeah, you've seen me do it.
어디가노?
So, it's kind of hard for Seoul people to even guess how 부산 people would say stuff
because it's so different and like the extra word that we attach and then the accent we
have is so different.
So we would say, 어디가노?
야, 니 어디가노?
So 어디가?
And then I'm adding the 노 part and then like putting it down.
어디가노?
야, 니 어디가노?
야, 내 같이 갈래?
어디가노 would be the 부산.
Next up is, hurry up!
Say that in Seoul.
I would say, 빨리 해.
빨리.
빨리 해.
Yeah, you've heard 빨리 빨리 all the time in Korean drama too, right?
빨리 빨리.
And it's like so part of Korean culture to do things really fast.
And you'll be shocked how things get taken care of in Korean speed.
When you go to Korea, like things are done in two days.
For maintenance, two days.
Like when you call for service, maybe like the same day, right?
But in America, I noticed that it takes about a week or two to get things done, right?
So it's a very cultural thing and you'll hear 빨리 all the time.
And in 부산, you would say, there's an extra word for commands like this, like hurry up,
that's a command.
You'll put an extra word at the end, that's 라, okay?
빨리 해라.
야, 빨리 해라.
뭐하노?
빨리 해라.
시간 없다.
Something like that.
So it is?
빨리 해.
빨리 해라.
Hear the difference?
And then next we have, I think we have a few more examples.
Are you enjoying this so far?
If you are, make sure you like and subscribe to our channel so we can do more fun things for you.
And if you really like this video, also let us know.
Because this is my first time doing a collaboration like Seoul and 부산 and inviting him over.
I mean, I did something like this two years ago.
You guys loved it.
We did like phrases and then you loved it.
So I wanted to bring him back and then we're doing another topic today.
Anyway, I don't know Seoul.
Go ahead.
I'll say 몰라.
몰라.
So soft.
Seoul is like so soft.
몰라.
Oh yeah.
Sing the song.
몰라.
알 수가 없어.
What is that song from?
I don't know.
The song comes from the old K-pop called I don't know, literally.
몰라.
Who sang it?
By 엄정화.
She's like a queen.
Well, do the dance.
몰라.
알 수가 없어.
He's a little shy today, a little nervous.
But usually he's like goofier than this.
But I hope you understand.
I hope you go even more all out next time with your dance.
So they can enjoy it.
부산 걸.
I don't know in 부산.
모르겠다.
That's how I would say like 모르겠다.
몰라.
Same word.
I could say 몰라.
More accent.
And then other one is 모르겠다.
모르겠다.
진짜 모르겠다.
Something like that.
So Seoul, go ahead.
몰라.
Or 모르겠다.
Hear the difference.
Are you mimicking us?
And if you're looking like asking me, hey 아인아, which one do I learn?
Go with Seoul, okay?
Seoul is the standard Korean.
And I'm just doing this for fun.
For those of you who are also interested in dialect, who knows, you know?
Alrighty.
So next one is, did you eat?
And this is so cultural too.
Like we can say, did you eat as a hello?
Right?
So that's like how we say hello too.
Just checking in with people if they ate or not.
I'll go first, right?
Yeah, Seoul.
So I would say 밥 먹었어?
아인아, 밥 먹었어?
응, 먹었어.
뭐 먹었어?
고구마.
맛있네.
Okay, what about me?
Okay, what about you?
How would you say this in 부산 girl?
부산 girl will say, did you eat?
Okay, he said 밥 먹었어?
And then if you want to go like really 부산, we can say 밥, same 밥.
밥 묻나?
Not 먹었나?
It's 밥 묻나?
And then 나 has to go down.
밥 묻나?
야, 니 밥 묻나?
밥 묵자?
Something like that.
So go ahead, Seoul.
밥 먹었어?
부산, 밥 묻나?
Honestly though, I think 부산 hits it more friendly.
Is it just me?
Let me know in the chat how you guys feel about this.
밥 묻나 feels more home.
It feels cozier and homier.
Although sometimes we sound like we're fighting, it's like cozier to hear, in my opinion.
And next is, what should I do?
Maybe you did something and you're like, oh my god, oh my god.
What should I do?
You've also heard of this in K-drama.
So go ahead and Isaac, let us know what to do in Seoul Korean.
I would say, 어떡해?
Or, 어떡하지?
Wait, can you do it a little bit more real?
Like, oh my god, you're like shocked.
아, 어떡해.
Right, 어떡해! Oh my god!
아, 어떡하지?
Right, 어떡하지 or 어떡해?
How would you say this in 부산 Korean?
부산, I would say, okay, a couple things are coming in my head.
Because, you know, dialect can go in many different ways because it's an accent that we can play with.
The first thing is, as a native 부산, I would say,
웃잖아.
아, 웃잖아.
Not, 어떡해.
웃잖아, 괜찮아, 웃잖아.
Or, 어떡하지?
아, 어떡하지?
어떡해, 어떡해.
So same thing, but heavier accent, right?
So it would be, what?
어떡해.
웃잖아.
어떡해, 웃잖아.
Or, 어떡해, 어떡하노.
어떡하노 is also part of it, too.
어떡하노.
Okay, I think this is the last one.
Wait, let me just see.
Yeah, it's the last one.
Stop it!
How would you say that insult?
I would say,
그만해.
그만하라고.
Right, the first one, one more time.
그만해.
Right.
그만해.
그만해, stop it.
Stop it.
And, as I said, in 부산, when you're commanding someone,
we actually add 라 at the end.
So it would be,
그만해라.
컴퓨터 게임 좀 그만해라.
Stop with the computer game you're playing for 10 hours.
10시간 했잖아.
그만해라.
Like moms would say that.
Like I would definitely say that when I have kids, right?
Alright, so insult, what did you say?
그만해.
부산, 그만해라.
그만해라.
Alright, so that wraps up a couple of examples and phrases.
Did you guys like it?
How was it?
I mean, I had a blast.
And he hasn't been on my YouTube channel in a while,
so he's kind of nervous about it.
But hopefully he warms up today,
and hopefully you guys encourage him in the chat,
and we can come back for part 2 of Seoul and Busan Korean if you enjoyed it.
