FIRST ARROW OF IOWA SEASON

We got a bunch of fun coupons. We got our tags. We're in Iowa.
Drove all night last night from South Dakota to try to hit this cold front this round. We got
stuff everywhere. There's clear stuff in the truck. Not sure if we have everything but we're gonna sit
and first sit in Iowa. Feels good to be saying that. It's October 7th, 8th. Gonna kind of sit
uh kind of more of an observation sit while we're looking at a bunch of beans that we've
in there. So it's ready to go. We'll zip up there and just kind of see what we see.
Not being invasive. Not really going after a buck specifically. Just kind of feels good. Iowa
2022 first sit. Ready to rip. Sit number one. If we don't if we don't fall on the way there
that's a successful hunt. Oh you're in sport mode. How did that happen?
Should be good. We got a got a short little walk now just right here. I got the bike stash back.
It was a little interesting going down the rows of the beans. Let's just say
my knee is kind of kind of taking a hit. All right we're up in the stand now.
All set up. Just working out the kinks. First first white tail hunt in Iowa. So
it's pretty exciting. We're sitting sitting in a spot where we call it your mom's stand.
Good little food plot over here. Came up really really good and we kind of have it
running all along the field edge. Kind of where the farmer missed planting.
We just planted and we have a super active scrape over here at about 35 yards. We've
got a camera on it and there's a lot of good deer showing up but kind of in this area is a buck we
call swoops. It's a buck Caitlin really really wants to shoot and it's kind of been hunting
but this is kind of his kind of like furthest circle I guess and a couple other like decent
deer hanging out but just observation so we can see see a lot and uh just kind of work the kinks
out working this cold front. Got cold 30 degrees last night so it's gonna get cold again. This was
last night hitting that scrape right over there. Last year I I think I sat 60 some times in Iowa
before killing something because I was so picky and specific on one deer and this year I'm not
doing that. I don't think I'm setting out for one deer it's just I'm just gonna hunt and enjoy it
and whatever deer walks by that gets me jazzed up I'm gonna kill. Last year I got in this like deep
dark hole of pickiness and and uh it's not as fun as just hunting so this year we're just gonna hunt
the wind that makes sense and maybe target a few bucks but not just set after one. That was a good
first hit almost shot a doe twice and saw we call them big seven it's just a three-year-old seven
point really framey but it's a good sit we're gonna get out of here. Day two it's a doe killing
day today if a doe comes by we ain't we ain't messing around today. Caitlin waved still here
oh whatever. We brought the deer cart because we're confident but we're not bringing it with
because then we for sure would not shoot before leaving it in the truck. Off that trail October
night back in the stand day two hunting in Iowa same spot I think uh I really think we're gonna
try to shoot a doe tonight we got tonight's like decent night uh Huntcast says and then
rest of the week's kind of kind of not so hot and we go to Nebraska so if we shoot a couple
does tonight and then rip out of here we'll have this area to kind of settle back down so
that's what we're hoping for but hey the big old buck of our spot we'll smoke it also
a little warm it's uh 70 70 some degrees but it's been getting cool 40s degrees 40 40-ish degrees
at night so kind of excited kind of antsy tonight. We saw no deer that really sucked I thought it
was going to be at least some does come out or something. Hunt wise did say zero percent
deer activity so I guess we should just stay at home. It's uh October 16th back in Iowa heading
out to the stand I have the prettiest camera person in the entire world Caitlin Loss filming
me. Two doe tags in our pocket and a shooter buck um kind of daylight in every couple every couple
days so we got we got a pretty good shot out tonight it's got a real cold front rolling
through we're gonna get in there a little later than we want but we'll still be all right get in
there get snuggled in see what happens. Up in the stand we had a little little technical difficulties
mic wasn't working but we're we're rocking still don't know quite what wind is perfect for this
stand this is kind of a trial run to see see how we like it and seeing deer moving around
there's a buck in here we call Mo he's like a five and a half year old just big old eight
point so we'll see what he looks like in person and hopefully maybe get shot out
we might also shoot a doe or two. Well good morning it's uh October 20th 19th 18th I was
yeah October 18th first morning set of the year it was 19 degrees this morning
and I typically don't even hunt mornings until like October 20th like 22 23 24 but
um it was just too good to not hunt this morning so we uh we hung a vertical in this old tree
that has old screw and pegs in it and I found it this summer and I was like you know what
that'd be a good good tree just to get in if if I felt like it with a with some sort of north wind
so this morning we strapped a strapped a stand to the bikes and drove out here and there was a
little bit of fiasco getting out here but we left the truck an hour before shooting lane and it's
about 15 minutes past shooting lane now so it took quite a long time to get out here and set up.
Well we just had a short pop out of the corner 15 yards right here downwind he uh he spooked a
little bit didn't blow but just kind of headed back and cut into the woods which is wild first
deer of the morning. Afternoon now October 18th still we uh we are going to shoot does if they
come by today so I'm kind of excited in a spot again where really not a lot of bucks are hanging
out but good opportunity at some does and still a good opportunity if bucks are kind of shuffling
around sit tight and uh see what pops out she's dead she ran 50 yards she's dead right there
that's awesome. Let's wrap for the video we actually hauled the doe out on the cart it
was way easier than I expected but good couple first days hunting here in Iowa and uh cold front
weather saw some bucks had some good times and uh we're gonna keep hunting the season but we're
gonna catch you guys in the next one thanks for watching.
