We are Swinging the Main Frame Rafter Plates for the Rustic Timber Frame Shed. We are getting ready to install the rafters and roof system
Good morning guys. Welcome back to Timber Town. And today Jason and I are going to get to finishing
swinging the last of the rafter plates for the timber frame shed. Right now I'm trying to run up
get my crane out of the shop, warm her up so that we can swing this thing. So guys stick around,
show you how we do it two guys style. Later. Later. One more knee brace in my man.
Love it. Duda. I'm gonna bring the little ladder over and we can both. I don't need one. What's
that? I don't need one. I set that up for you. Oh gotcha. Well I appreciate that. You're welcome.
Make sure it says post. Yeah get the right one in there. See we can both work together. Same ladder.
What is this whole ladder fetish? Sorry. I like to work together. I don't mean to
disrespect your ladders man. It's part of me bro. I know it is. I know they all are.
All the tools that I end up breaking are part of you. I do a pretty fair share of breaking myself.
I know. I told you we're on repairs this afternoon. Fire's going out. Losing my $100 bet.
Doug won't be back. No never. Your $100 is safe.
He's probably still billing me per hour per day.
Oh that's a beautiful snug. Can you lift it up at all? Yeah I can actually. Sorry.
These pegs have been working out really well. That's flush. I know. That's an inch.
I want to knock. We'll knock the other one through a little bit too.
All right there we go. Let's find the right beam and let's fly another beam Jay. Flying
beam already? I love it. Let's get this wonderful ladder out of the way.
Oh wait I need to get this. We got to get the straps down here. You know what the beautiful
part about this Jay is? What's that? Is that our artwork with the bark work over here is
going to meet up and we're going to get to look at it. Every day you load lumber. Oh just remember
I love it. You know I'm being here loading a lot of lumber. I got a lot of lumber to load.
Yeah building one. What did we talk yesterday? All the way to Carrot's house. That's 660 feet
fellas. He wants to build a lumber yard. I just tested it right there. Nothing moved. I don't
know if it's going to show my crane. My crane was coming down. Wouldn't pull it off those pegs.
PL glue fellas. That construction glue stuff works good. But I do want you to
give this a whack right here with a block and drive that down. Can I do it now? Please. Okay.
Can you see that down there? Excuse me son? Can you see that? Let me see. Didn't move at all?
It's about to sit. Let me see. Hit it. I didn't. Nah. You're home. Okay. Home. We're home now.
Motivator coming down.
All right. I'm going up. A little off level there. You all right?
See if you can pull that around that. Okay. There you go. Watch that swing. Watch that swing.
Going up. Pull up. Watch the bull. I got to boom down. Yeah. Be on the outside of that building.
I got to rope up. Rope up. Can I trade places with you and you going to go to the outside pocket?
Absolutely. Thank you. All right. Hang on. Crossing under. Yeah. I don't do. I'm in the
All right. That's fine. I might have to rotate to you. Okay. You all right up there? Oh great.
Up here. So sturdy. So sturdy. Nice and wide too. I'm the guy who's not afraid of heights.
Jay's first day here. I'm scared of heights. No he's not. I realized that you taught me. I'm
only afraid of falling. I'm not afraid of heights. I'm rotating to you bud. Rotate to me.
I'm plenty stable over here. Should be close. Very close. All right. I got to boom down. Boom down.
All right. Let me try to stabilize. Okay. I'm going to rope down a little. Yeah. Rope down.
I'm right. I'm six inches away. You want me to pull to you? Yeah. If you can. Let me get this.
Get this brace in here. I'm going to swing up. It ain't going to work until your tab stays.
There we go. It's all in. It's all in. That's it. It's all in. You need me down there? I don't know.
Let's see if Danny can do it. Probably not. You all right? All good. Couldn't be better Dan.
Nice down here. I'm in. I'm in. Nice. I got to get this knee brace fit though.
What's that? This knee brace isn't fit yet.
Where do you need me? I might lose it. I might just have to put it back together. That's all.
There we go. Hey. Right on. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm about three inches out.
Sorry. I'm an inch and a quarter out. That's it.
I'm going to do this Jay. We just need to tap. Yeah. Close enough for you to get pegs in there.
Oh yeah. We're getting it. Inch and a quarter. That's got to come in. I mean,
there's nothing in our way. No. It's been in before. Oh good. Big hammer. Big hammer.
Bring on the motivator. I don't think it'll be that big a deal. There's one over there.
Got it in my hand. Working behind you Jay. Under you. Behind you. How did we end up with two
sledgehammers? I don't remember two sledgehammers. Huh? I don't remember. I had two. I probably had
three. Still looking for that. I found a chain the other day. Coming. It's coming. Coming.
Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Three quarters of an inch. Did it start at an inch? It was an inch
and a quarter. It's moving though. I mean, it's a little heavy. Yeah. Half an inch. I can't hit
it anymore like that. Want me to come do it? Yeah. Okay. Or at least hold the block or something.
Crane's not on it. See if this helps. Shoot. I could get it to draw in with a draw peg if I
wanted to. Oh, it just jumped in. I can. Oh yeah. It's done. What? I can peg all these now. Peg.
I can peg all these. All right. Get some more. Tight fit. Looks good over here.
Trust me a peg buddy. I will do. Will do. This is probably long. You just need a shorty, right?
Yeah. Can be. I'm golden. Nice. Phase one complete. Oh, this looks. Dropping in phase two.
Jay, the sun hasn't even come over the trees yet. I love it. I slept in an extra hour this morning.
We had a coffee break. Waiting on Doug. Waiting on Doug. We'll be waiting a while.
Do me a favor. Yeah. Go draw those two top pegs here in this post. You see they're not
coming through. Yeah. Yeah. Get them through. Let's cut them off. Okay. For some reason,
I'm envisioning myself sitting up here playing the guitar, but I don't. I'll get you a gazebo,
my friend. You don't have to sit out in the woodshed unless I take you out here.
I want to climb on it. Well, good. Get up there. Yeah. I'm always climbing on. You might as well.
All right. Let's roll this thing. That's it. That's why everything was going so smooth. I
was taking it easy. Let's let's finish early. I think somebody talked Mexican food. That's right.
Mocha head day. Is that what you're craving, my friend? Always. It's all they even at the
other place. They even know. They're like, I don't even go in there very often, but they're
like, is that all you ever order? I'm like, I order exactly the same thing every time.
So they don't even need to bring me a menu now. They're just like, you get in the mocha head day.
I'm like, yes. Okay, Jay. Yes, please. You like mocha head day. I like mocha head day. Yes, you
do, Dan. Like I really have much influence on a beam this size. No, I got it when you get. I
wouldn't even get under it. It falls. It falls, my friend. You ain't doing right. You got no
influence. You're no influencer, my friend. I got it. I got it, Dan. Okay. You want to go up
on your perch? Yeah. Yeah. Pressing up. Okay. Pretty close, right? Yeah, we're very close.
I'm in the tab over here. You good? Yep. Swing it out. If you can't swing your end out
just an inch or so and I'll I'll clear this thing. Almost. There it goes.
That's it. How about your knee brace? Oh, yeah. Sorry. All good. I'm going to come down a little. I'm on down.
Are you able to get a peg in yours? Yeah. Can you give me a hammer too? I need to tap this thing.
Are we able? I'm going to try to pull it. Maybe we can get the peg in the front pin there.
Oh, yeah. It's going to be close. I'm going to be able to get it right. We're going to get it.
I put the little. Where did I put the? What are you looking for? The little pins I had. There's
one right behind you on the ground. I just put three down somewhere. All right. Let's see. Let me.
Okay. Hang on. Going in. Going in. You might have to hit it. Yeah. It's hanging up a little bit.
Going. There it goes. That's seating the other side. Yep. It's almost there. Keep coming.
Keep coming. One inch. Okay. Nice. All right.
Good. There should be able to come down. We need that eight-foot ladder. Gotcha.
It should have been a cowboy. You want me to come down? Yeah. Hang on.
All right. Go. There it is. There we go.
There it is. Oh, yeah. First, I thought it was going to have a problem. That went in. That was
tight. I had it tied to the truck. Very snug. I need the motivator, if you don't mind.
Should be able to drive this through your mama's kitchen. I don't know what that means.
What the hell are you talking about? I like it, but I have no idea.
All right. Just a smidge. I could sit on it. Now, what do you think is more weight, Jay?
Well, I definitely. You know what? I definitely. Now, you're going to hammer. Wow. Watch this.
Is it going? There it goes, my friend. There it is. It's supposed to have a little pressure on it.
That's what makes it so strong. That was loose and sloppy. Definitely not loose and sloppy.
Almost there. Nice. Ouch. One more. One more. Okay. Okay. That's even, really. Okay. The next
one should fit much easier, Jay. All right. Let's see what we got here. I'm going to use this.
Continue this technique. You're going to use that technique? It's a little. I'm saying it's already
drawn down. Yeah. Okay, guys. You see, it took us a couple hours at the most. Put this together.
And this guy, look, is not premium wood. We didn't plane it. This is all off of the mill.
Now, you can timber frame just like that. You don't need to buy perfect beams. They'd only be
planed on each side. You just have to learn some sort of techniques that will show you
that you can actually do anything. Scribe them in. Look, I left this chunky, broken piece here
to show you. The joint is still strong anywhere you look. And even Jay and I, we got lucky
that our little bark artistry work came out. And it's actually on the inside. So when Jay's in here
all the time loading and unloading wood, doing stickers and all that stuff, he can look at that
beautiful piece he did. Because I guarantee next year that bark is gone. But guys, don't need
perfect wood. Right off the mill, right on the table, right through your cutting. Really, not
that big a deal. Looks good, Dan. I know, I know. We have a crane. I know, I know. We have all the
other stuff. But it's just two guys. So, all right. Wood storage shed for us. Garage or barn for
anybody else. Plenty of room for equipment. Plenty of room for your car, for your truck. You can build
it any size you want. You can even mix match the lumber. Man, get yourself some bark. This thing
looks rustic. I love it. Matches up to our old building, which is not that quite easy to tie
together. Would have been easier if we just had one more post. But I'm going to do something different
with the roof rafters. Hope a lot of guys don't give me a bunch of malarkey about it. But I'm
going to show you. We're going to get a jig. And now that it's up, I didn't want to cut the joints
just because I wanted to see how it's going to tie together with this building. So, I'm going to have
to do a little bit of cutting up top. Show you how we're going to put the rafters in.
Piece of cake. So, we'll catch up with you. Beautiful.
